Great video. I've had one of these amps for about 4 years and it's had about 100s of hours gig and practice time since then. Swapped the tubes for JJs a couple of years ago and it sounds mint. Even with the stock tubes. I play a LP Studio and just use the amp to get the crunch with a BD2 for solos. Great amp for the money. Never let me down and it's fiercely loud if you want it to be. Played medium sized pub venues using the master on the back no higher than 7. Thanks again for sharing this vid. Cheers. Mike.

Thanks man! Sounds very similar to the setup I used to run on it. Got to agree that it's great for the money and a hell of a loud beast. Had the opportunity to run it flat out in a studio, you could still hear the thing through 2 sets of soundproof doors! Thanks for the kind words. Tom.

If you’re considering buying this amp just do it. Well worth its money. Have had mine for about 3 years now. Still kicks ass especially with an attenuator.

Why would u need an attenuator when it has a master output control at the back??
@musicallypassioned89503 жыл бұрын
It has a minimal effect especially if you want to push the tubes to get natural full saturation. The amp itself is rated 150 watts but I have the attenuator from bugera which is rated for a 100 watt load. It’s only about 100 bucks. But as long as you don’t crank the amp all the way to 10 it should work just fine without overloading the attenuator. But overall the “master” in the back doesn’t do much lol.

Sounds fantastic! I've been interested in this amp for years. Marshall Origin as well...
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s definitely a good amp for getting you in that classic Marshall ballpark. I’ve never tried the origin series but I’m sure they’re pretty damn good as my dsl definitely feels like a step up from the bugera. That being said I do seem to go back to the bugera when I need the more classic tones! I think what it comes down to is your budget and what you need the amp for, if you don’t need the 100w then maybe the origin is the better choice simply from the standpoint that if you want Marshall then you may as well go Marshall.
@brandonkaiser83443 жыл бұрын
If you get an Origin retube it. I threw in 2 mullards in the V1 and V2 and 2 Russian EL-34’s. I own an Origin 20 head. Really made the amp what I expected it to be. Was too bright and fuzzy out of the box. Retubed it all the low end and Marshall Midrange came to life.

In response to your "thin sounding" comment, sometimes original Plexis are thin sounding as well, and I'm a die hard Marshall player.

Thanks for the comment 😊 It’s good to know that it’s part of the character rather than an issue with the amp itself.

@@TGMGuitars_ You are using the PP Master Volume, it makes it fizzy
@robertmazurowski59742 жыл бұрын
@@TGMGuitars_ Don't use the master volume. I see you have a Captor X, Unfortunately, you can't use it with it as well. You need to take out 2 tubes or buy another attenuator and use the 2 speaker output, 1 to captor x the other to the other load box. That way you will get the best sound. Otherwise, it will break the Captor x and the amp as captor X is rated 100 Watts and the Plexi with no master can easily put above 100 watts with settings above 3 on the Volume.

Nothing like a strat but I think if you were using a Tele, you could almost get the Albert Collins effect.... something about a Bugera I haven't quite figured it out yet..... my t-50 Infinium has the technology to heal tubes and keep them leveled out, yet it mystifies me I think I need to just rip loose and use a good speaker cabinet...

Can you get at least a little bit of breakup without using an attenuator, without being too loud?
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for the comment! I think it depends on what sound levels you can play at, pushing towards breakup can be very loud. However you can pull 2 of the power valves which is what I did for a while. This won’t make any noticeable volume difference but will cause the amp to breakup sooner. If it’s bedroom volumes you’re looking for then it will definitely need to be attenuated.

So the master on the back gives night time close neighbors practice levels?????
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not, it’s definitely an amp that’s best run with an attenuator, the master volume is good for taming it at gigs, but from a home perspective it’s still a bit too loud on 1, unless you hate your neighbours, then it’s perfect 🤣
@erikleach17533 жыл бұрын
Using an attenuator in conjunction with the master will get you to bedroom volumes. I use a Harley Benton 100w attenuator with mine. Just keep in mind that a 100 watt tube amp puts out MORE than 100 watts at peak power. As long as you have the master turned down, it won't hurt the attenuator or the amp. I've even used this same attenuator with the master volume bypassed, but with the a variable voltage transformer (variac) set to 89vAC. Effectively makes this 100w amp about a 60w amp and tames it just enough that it doesn't over load the attenuator. Anyway, hope this was helpful
@maxmustardman2982 жыл бұрын
There are varying opinions on wether this specific master volume retains more of the amps preamp quality, but this is such a subjective topic. Trust year ears and dont by shy to try out things. I bought mine used and the owner had the ppimv reverted to a "real" master volume. Idk,if youre hell bent on getting the slash tone maybe its useful but whatever.

What are the settings on your amp?
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
Completely forgot to add those in didn’t I 😂 The settings I use most of the time are as follows; Presence - 6 Treble - 7/8 Mid - 7 Bass - 5 Volume 1 - 4/5 Volume 2 - 3/4 Then I just adjust accordingly. In the video when I’m playing the strat the presence is slightly lower with a bit more bass and then the Les Paul is those exact settings 😊
@mars09463 жыл бұрын
@@TGMGuitars_ Thank you. I have this head and will try your settings. Curiosity begs, is there that much of a difference to purchase an actuator? I have been using the master on the back turned down and everything feels thin, even the bass mid and treble seem to make a marjonable difference.
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
@@mars0946 an attenuator will alter the sound in its own way, I found that it added a bit of “fizz” to the sound when using mine. What I used to do was balance the attenuator with the master volume in order to fill out the sound, it’s important to get the power section working in order to bring back some low end. Another consideration is that at low volumes the speakers are not working at their best. Unfortunately you really need to get the volume going in order to fill out the frequencies otherwise you’ll just get the higher/mid frequencies coming through. The settings listed above were my go to when I was gigging, so a suitable volume to be heard over a drummer. I was in the fortunate situation to use this amp in anger at a studio but ended up turning the master volume back on because the sound was a bit too bass heavy. The key really is to just adjust to taste, it takes a little while but you’ll find what you like in no time 😊

Wrong yes they do. Different factories construct them differently with different materials and It does change the way an smp sounds. I once put a set in my supersonic 60 that were amazing compared to the stock set. A while later I changed them for jjs. Made the amp so bright i immediately bought a different set again. Happened another time with tung sols in a bugera g20. Amp got so bright I stopped using it and sold it. The gts or even the stock bugera tubes and it was fine

Trust me, this amp is not thin sounding. it RATTLES my house with Low end and low mids if you want it to. If it sounds thin in a video, it's because of the mixing / Speaker choice/ mic choice / mic placement / amp settings...
@TGMGuitars_3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I think it comes down to the situation, in a room in a house this thing is fierce, however there’s been situations on stage where it just doesn’t really fill out the bottom end, this can be due to bad eq or as I found it was mainly the speakers, I used a bugera cab which I came to find sounded pretty rubbish in my opinion. Looking back on this video I would probably mix it a little differently, however the thin comment was to do with my experience with the amp. Put this thing through a good Marshall cabinet and I love the thing.
