Nintendo actually considered publishing Plok and Shigeru Miyamoto was at first incredulous about the soundtrack when he got to play. He thought that the console had been modified or that the cartridge used a special sound chip. Nope, it was just a Tim Follin soundtrack. Anyway, Nintendo ultimately declined to publish, citing that the game was too similar to something they were already working on; when the big leak happened last year an SNES prototype was discovered which has a player character with similarly disconnected limbs. It's hypothesized that it was proof of concept for a Donkey Kong platformer, but was abandoned and the team behind it created Yoshi's Island after.

Not only was Plok's soundtrack ahead of its time in obvious technical aspects, but I feel it was pretty experimental in its usage of genres and styles; I mean, this could probably pass as a fan made 16 bit remix of an obscure modern day synthwave song in the vein of artists like Carpenter Brut or Pertubator, it's so different from much of the music in games at the time. This is also present in other tracks like the Beach theme (which I'd LOVE to hear get the same treatment), but it's most obvious here.

The difficulty didn't help either. It was one of those games with no saves, no continues, no passwords, nothing. You run out of lives, you start the entire game over. It's brutal

Tim did not need to go this hard for Plok

i like how the first thirty seconds are already grounds for an amazing boss theme but Tim Follins just decided he felt like becoming Carpenter Brut and proceeded to drop absolute fire

Sounds like Amiga demoscene music. What an absolute banger.

This game has no business sounding as nuts as it do. Almost 30 years later and I still find myself humming it.

Music plot twists are my absolute favorite. Pokey Means Business and this theme make perfect examples.

Somewhere out there is a boss, named Three Bladed Monstrosity, just the most diabolical creature you can think of, with like running the flow field type beat for its theme

Synthwave? Nah, this is definitely early 90s techno. That hard driving beat is perfection

I like to imagine the bosses at the beginning of the song are haughty and think they can kill Plok, only for Plok to tear off his limbs and start throwing them at the beat drop, confusing and terrifying the boss.

You can tell the influence Giorgio Moroder had on Tim and Geoff when they made this track. A mashup of Midnight Express meets Donna Summer's I Feel Love.

I don't know if this a remix or just a high quality of the og. That's a hell of a sound by the way. It's not your standard SNES theme. It's a whole goddamn universe and emotion here.

This song has a vibe of a little dinky ass spooky skeleton Grim Reaper boss guy who is evil walking all evil like and then all of a sudden this fucking massive ass robot golem dude with laser eyes just fucking smashed the shit out of the skeleton and is coming for you now

this theme just makes me imagine a pro fighter sweeping through a bunch of goons by using every single martial arts technique ever. This is awesome!
