I don’t know how to feel about this comic. I like the premise, but Batman seems simultaneously nerfed and ridiculously tanky. Nerfed in the sense that he gets shot and stabbed repeatedly, but tanky in that he always survives atrocious injuries and recovers from them in record time. I guess the Arkham games spoiled me since in those games he can literally fights multiple people at once without too much effort, tank gunshots (to a degree), and is decked out to the gills in gear. But he’s more methodical in those games too, in this, Batman attacks armed individuals at point blank range without checking for accomplices first, which seems decidely stupid. In the games, Batman always forms a plan before taking on armed men, and it’s never in a direct confrontation if he can avoid it.

This is what Batman is in real life Not a human powerful tank like plot armor, the writers decided to make Batman more human being instead of Batman with superhuman abilities and a god in this comic, and his suit isn’t bulletproof this is why Batman needs to wear bulletproof armor so he doesn’t bleed out when the cops start shooting him and he would die if he gets shot multiple times, he got nerfed very badly in this comic, Batman going to need to increase his reflexes and wear a bulletproof armored suit so he won’t die if the cops started shooting him multiple times and he doesn’t have a batmobile or batwing with him to escape he couldn’t have called it or use smoke bombs to vanish from the cops to get back to the batcave and recover from his injuries

Hot take: a hero like Batman has no business being in large scale stories like crisis on infinite earths

@wanderin_stud499 Жыл бұрын
It's not a hot take, a lot of Batman readers find a lot of those sort of stories numbing. Stuff like the crisis on two earths movie was alright, but when they go to the traveling-through-time-after-being-lasered-by-darkseid or Batmetal route, it's just horrible.
@sobaanawais1395 Жыл бұрын
terrible fucking take just because Batman does not have any super powers does not mean he can't be part of grand crossovers. The man literally always has something up his sleeve and he uses not only his fists but also his wits and gadgets to win. So no, Batman should be part of big epic events

This is kind of reminiscent of a much older Robert Pattinson Batman, the dark undertone of the story, the batsuit, the sheer authenticity of the comparison between Batman and the real world, the way Bruce speaks about himself as Batman, just everything in general. Aswell as the modern take on it all.

This the most nerfed batman ive seen yet
@PeptoAbismol Жыл бұрын
nah, wrong use of the word. I don't think he's nerfed here, the story is just grounded. just because he isn't dealing with world ending threats or God level beings doesn't mean he's nerfed in the slightest. in this story it seems like he's just dealing Gotham here and I honestly prefer it this way despite how cool a billionaire bat fighting with the likes of Darkseid can be. on surface level, he's a vigilante trying to protect a shitty city and I feel that's what this story is about.
@tafadzwa_21 Жыл бұрын
@@PeptoAbismol its not about him fighting gods the issue is Batman was almost done in by common bank robbers, outfought by a common soldier/ex cop,could not hack into gotham pd, was outmanoeuvred and out detectived by the common cop and his suit suddenly forgot it was bulletproof and could glide. I’m a basic batman fan its not complicated.

@@tafadzwa_21 The main enemy is a common cop. So yeah, he HAS to be nerfed otherwise there are no stakes. Just like how batman can beat the justice league but struggles with the joker. The antagonist needs to be a threat or the story doesn't make sense.

@@tafadzwa_21 this is because this is definitely a young batman hes not matured nor figured out his skills hes an angry teenager older batman isn't fueled by rage and also definitely hasn't done the whole go around the world and get combat training he also doesn't have an Alfred this is young Bruce before his experiences and without Alfred fuled by rage and trying to find his way so yes hes been outdone by common criminals because he lacks his experience

If I ever were allowed to write a Batman comic (if I ever even became a professional writer at all), it would be one where A Death in the Family and Knightfall had happened in rather rapid sucession and both Batman and the DC Universe at large would have to deal with the consequences (mostly with the consequences of what Batman would do next). It would probably only work as an Elseworlds story, but I think it could do a lot in the vein of stories like Kingdom Come, but on a more personal, smaller scale.

A scene between two thugs, Sam and Olly, eating hot dogs on a bridge over Gotham River. Laughter carries across the water as we swoop in on their conversation. Sam, chuckling: “That old lady really thought a little pink taser could stop us, heh!” Olly, between bites: “It might’ve if she’d remembered to charge it. You know those things can really mess you up? My cousin Dom got hit by one once. His left eye is always spasming now. We call him Twitch!” Both laugh loudly, mouths full of half-eaten hot dog. Olly, still chewing, continues: “But seriously, tasers can screw you up big time. I’d rather get shot in the shoulder than zapped by that thing.” Sam takes a big bite, dull yellow mustard painting his thick wiry mustache: “Pfft. I ain’t scared. I use em to light my cigarettes and tickle my nuts. Look, it’s still here in her purse.” Olly: “How? It was clutched in her cold hand when we left her out on the pavement.” Sam shrugs: “Maybe she had two. Oh wait, this one’s different. It’s red.” Olly’s smile fades. He swallows his food. “What? Lemme see that!” Sam: “Yeah it’s like glowin or somethin-“ Olly, eyes wide with terror, snatches the device out of the handbag: “Oh shit! Shit shit shit! You fucking moron! Throw that bag over now!” Olly drops the device into the turbulent water below along with the rest of his uneaten hot dog, motioning for Sam to do the same with the handbag. Sam: “Why? I ain’t got all the cash out of it y-“ Olly violently grabs the old woman’s purse away from Sam and flings it as far into the river as he can. He throws one desperate glance at Sam before beelining it towards the docks. Sam: “-yet. Hey what gives, asshole?” Sam follows. Olly yells through gasping breaths: “That isn’t a taser! That’s a Hood tracker!” Sam, the younger and taller of the two, sprints, catching up quickly with his longer strides: “What, like the Red Hood?” Olly: “He started leavin’ em for people who hafta walk in the rougher parts of town! Every person he’s rescued in the past coupla months has one!” Sam, breathless: “FUCK! He don’t pull punches like the others! He just… wastes guys…” Olly, finally on the harbor, stops to catch his breath behind some shipping crates: “No shit! Why you think I freaked out back there? We gotta get the fuck out of here, man. Split up.” Before Sam can respond, a sharp flutter, whip-like, sounds above their heads. Panicked, both jerk their heads upward. There, perched on a lamppost, impressive forearms resting on massive knees, eyes like white slits, He stared at them, as still as a statue under his billowing cape. Sam, whispering aside to Olly: “Well, it beats the other guy.” To the gargoyle-like figure above: “Uh… hey Bats, uh, Batman! Look, you don’t gotta beat us up this time, arright? We’ll just head right over to the 6th precinct station. Cool?” The Batman doesn’t move. He says nothing. Sam: “Ok? Um… sir?” Sam glances at Olly. “How come he ain’t - hey, you alright?” Olly, eyes wide upon the living shadow on the lamppost, is shaking with fear. Terrified, beads of sweat filling his pores and dripping off his face, he can’t seem to answer. His mouth forms words he can’t remember how to say. Sam looks up quickly and back at Olly. “Snap out of it!” Olly, weakly: “He… he… started… kill-killin. He got Tommy Durhoff… just last week.” Sam, incredulous: “Durhoff? No way, that was the Croc! He was all mangled and his face… it was Killer Croc, wasn’t-wasn’t it?” Olly: “No. It was Him,” he nods ever so slightly at the Batman, whose eyes had narrowed somehow even further. Suddenly, they burst opened. Sam: “But Batman doesn’t kill! He- he just tosses guys around! Right?” The statue comes to life, dropping onto the ground in a crouch. He stands up, rippling marble and armor reflecting the dim lighting of the harbor yet absorbing the direct glow of the lamppost above him like some black hole. An event horizon made corporeal; the Darkness itself alive, awake, and seething. Sam, turning to face Him: “Right?” The Batman takes a step forward. Sam, pleading, squeaking out the word: “… right?” Olly meekly whispers: “No. It was Him.” Sam doesn’t look over at Olly this time. Sam doesn’t look over at Olly ever again. All he sees in these, his final moments, is a pitch black void in the shape of an impossibly big man growing larger, looming closer. All he hears is his heartbeat thundering in his ears and a heavy footfall, one after another, slowly and rhythmically approaching. The Darkness never lets His steps be heard unless He wants them to be heard. And this time, as He purposefully closes the ground between Him and the two killers… *He does.*
