Still enjoying these videos. Some ppl live in boring areas geographically so I hope you continue filming the mountains and rain and the transition into fall and winter. Cheers!

Yeah we pay the Commifornia tax and this is why, for those who wonder how we put up with the political disaster.

I LOVE the alpine environment -- the ruggedness of the geology of the mountains, the climate, the fall foliage, the endless choices of lakes for fishing, the conifers the elevation, scenery, everything about it. It's as close to Heaven as I'll ever get on this earth. The _drive_ from L.A. to Mammoth was one of my favorite experiences, with all the terrain changes and climate changes, the depth of Owens Valley (looking up at Mt. Whitney from Lone Pine is just breathtaking and makes you humble really quick), the Old West vibe, just a thrill -- no matter what the weather. And since I nerd out on geology I could spend a lifetime trying to learn everything about the Sierra Nevada and its volcanic and seismic history. Hands down, my favorite area of California, bar none.

@@briane173 It is the most beautiful spectacular larger space in Cali (eliminating all the Yosemites, and so on). From around Lone Pine to Bishop the valley floor is roughly 2 miles below highest peaks on *both sides,* while valley approaching a mile high itself. Deepest valley in continental USA. Born and raised there I've never in my life felt comfortable in vast plains, even Central Valley puts me off. Sort of the opposite of claustrophobia in weaker form. Spending a night on your back on moonless night at, say 8k alt plus, is a must do on occasion, gives one a sense of where they are in the galaxy plus all the stuff to wonder over. Twice I saw and *heard sonic boom* from meteors there, hearing them really makes'em seem close, right there, part of your environment, otherwise sort of an abstraction.

@@BoMcGillacuttyHey Bo, indeed, not many people know just how deep Owens Valley is because it's filled with sediment 11,000 ft thick. Alabama Hills is its own mountain range, it's just mostly buried in that deep sediment. The normal fault along the range front is the source of most of the volcanism up and down the entire range. I'm with ya. The geologic forces forming the valley is just hard to wrap your head around. I paid a visit to the 1872 fault scarp just outside of Lone Pine and that by itself is awe-inspiring, and reminds us that the show's not over as far as the uplift of the Sierra. While I'm not a fan of the heat, it's a DRY heat there which is a lot more bearable, and it makes mornings there heavenly. I'll be paying a visit late Sep/early Oct as I have another engagement in San Diego around that time, and I'm pumped to go back to Mammoth in the Fall and see the aspens light up. While I've always loved the area I live in (within shouting distance of Mt St Helens), it just doesn't compare to eastern Sierra; and so I envy you grew up there, you're in a special place.

I was going to post the same. Dead trees need down and moved from house to decrease fire risk along with shortening the weeds/grass.

15:15 One thing I used to appreciate about development in Mammoth Lakes back in the 1970s was that in order to get a plat permitted, part of a property's CC&R's was you had to build cabins and condos AROUND the trees, you couldn't cut any down to clear a lot. Do they still do that there or not?

Saying the desert/Nevada could get up to 8 inches of rain. That would cause some massive carnage.

If Mammoth Lakes gets the storm, it will be interesting to see how the June Lake quarry lot handles the moisture and if it becomes a swamp again.

@@4RXLA They need to build a tent over that job site to keep out the rain. That underground spring they have there is plenty of water already.

29:05 That motocross event must have started up JUST after I moved away from Mammoth Lakes, because up until 1972 when I left I wasn't aware of any event like that or even a track in the area.

19:36. CAT should have kept the high drive on the smaller dozers. Before the D11 came out the D4H looked like a shrunken D10N. Nice machine though.
