Broad generalizations but Leftists have no sense of humor or humanity. Any decent humor has element of truth to it, not hard to see how that doesn't work for them, and humanity is the scourge of Earth they've been indoctrinated to think, a nasty parasite of the biosphere. It's not that way everywhere but Mammoth is sort of a little LA. Here in Chico, CA, most are quite friendly or at least longer term residents.
@BoMcGillacutty

In Chico I routinely yield for traffic, hold the door for strangers, etc., and visa versa. Recently went to sushi bar and shoehorned between others, said hello to my right and they smiled and greeted, said hello to my left and they looked at me with a glare: "Who the hell are you?"--their expressions announced, I knew they were from out of town, most likely the Bay Area.

The driving post Covid is gotten crazy everywhere. I always greet people, strangers, etc. Here in Minnesota. It’s probably 50-50 for responses. Smaller towns, much much better.

You do you and that’s all you can do. You’re providing a great insight on working/living/recreation in and around Mammoth. Taking time out of your day/life, sharing with us the goings on so to speak is awesome. We “All” thank you. Don’t spend any time on the haters! They’re the ones who won’t wave, say hi and cut you off while driving. If they were so good then they’d have their own KZbin channel! As I sit in 110 degree heat all summer watching your vids, seeing the snow still hanging around, watching you and everyone, including Sadie &Bud, is exactly why I subscribed! Keep up the great work!

You are correct about how people are on roads and trails. Most of the younger generations have so many things stuck in their ears they tune everything else out. Just wait till the mountain lion or black bear sneaks up from behind. I call them trail Zombies.
@BoMcGillacutty
@BoMcGillacutty Жыл бұрын
Not just trails of course. Vid of 7 or 8 young ppl crossing congested 4 lane road in Russia, cars and big trucks going around 45mph, few guys in front are alert and looking in all directions, couple girls in back are head down in their devices, one big rig can't stop, gets sideways as it plows thru stopped cars and across crosswalk. Guys in front sprint entirely clear, middle group just get's clear and two girls in rear get blindsided, IDK if fatals or not...illustrates well the reckless assumption of safety.

10:00 Hard telling where the critics are chiming in from but one thing that is often overlooked when critiquing the time taken to frame a house is _where it's located._ This is Mammoth -- you're up at 8,000 ft elevation in mostly sloped and rocky terrain, in an _active volcanic and seismic zone._ Just getting permits and inspections or even a plat for a spec home up there is a monumental undertaking, and when these structures have to be built to earthquake standards _on top of_ allowing for geothermal activity underground, the engineering begins to get more and more convoluted. A house this size meeting quality and environmental standards is no easy task; and that doesn't even account for the current issue of finding subs to do the work + supply chain issues. Homebuilding _everywhere_ is getting extremely difficult and costly for a number of reasons. Those problems multiply in a place like Mammoth, which is hundreds of miles from reliable supply chain infrastructure you can count on on a moment's notice. Yes, a good engineer can mitigate anything; but there's a cost to that, and when government enforces building code and micro-manages construction at every step, yeah -- things start to slow down a little. There's always the weather to contend with as well, so the best-laid plans often get pushed back or modified.

I have said many times how people are way different from when i grew up. Use to be everyone knew their nieghbors, now you don't even get a wave and people are driving way too fast to get to their destinations. On the house your building the roof structure looks very strong & sturdy.

In my opinion our excessive involvement with social media has led to people not knowing how to interact “directly” in public, in the work place or on the road. Never is one required to “yield” to anyone, never have to consider or respect others, cooperate or tolerate, or be polite, you just “click them away”.

There's indeed a vibe in California and it seems worse the closer you get to the coast. Some of that may be a complete lack of trust; in CA's current state you don't know who to trust so you wind up trusting no one. But regardless of where it is, if everybody's out for themselves and won't engage socially, whatever energy you're putting out is typically what you get back. I CAN tell you from my experience that I get a much more laid-back vibe in eastern CA than on the coast or in SoCal. The small-town atmosphere is prevalent up and down Owens Valley; Mammoth is hit-or-miss and that's primarily because if you hit Mammoth on a weekend when all the stressed-out people from L.A. are up for a little "relaxation," they take their week's worth of bad karma with them and it kills the positive vibe. All in all, though, it's a product of the times in which we're living. Social media has quickly turned into ANTIsocial media, politics infects literally _everything,_ and you're constantly looking over your shoulder for the next asshole or criminal. That's not a CA thing, it's an _everywhere_ thing -- and somehow the fever's gotta break, coz if it doesn't the cancer is eventually gonna kill us.

Does Cal-OSHA ever visit? It seems to me that any persons working under/around a crane are required to wear hardhats. (Cal Bldg. Code.) At least that has been my experience. Almost got fined once for being on a roof, (4 stories), and I had just removed my HH due to sweat running into my eyes. The inspector was slightly anal. Also if over 16 ft, supposed to tie-off. We did anyway while working on a commercial skylight.

Ben, you are right about just having common courtesy on the road. I drive in different areas of SoCal for my job. The degree of courtesy or lack thereof is very regional. In L.A., every man for themselves and be careful of the wackos. Orange county, the privileged Karens and Brandons are the norm. Now San Diego..they are different. I have literally come to a 4 way stop at the same time as someone else...I will wave them through, then they will wave me through. This will go back and forth for 2 or 3 times and finally I will go. Very laid back crowd down there in the SD area. It's probably a combination of the military discipline or the surfer vibe. Or just the fact that they have the best weather in the world.

Ben, it's the CA mentality that makes everyone like that. Dog eat dog. Everyone is in a hurry to go nowhere. I left long ago bcuz of the mentality and rudeness. People in CA are just plain selfish and it's all about them. About the 290 pin breaking all the time, let it float and don't weld it solid. Put a flange washer plate with a hole in it to weld on end of pin but let it rotate. It's breaking bcuz you're welding it solid. It needs to spin and float a little side to side.
