Exactly, but to get that to HDMI you can use a RetroTink 2X, at over $100. Great item, amazing results, but there's a cost trade off.

Looks and sound the same as my LevelHike Saturn cable, with the same problems. Colors are a little washed out and the image is blurry. The biggest problem is the audio channels are reversed. You can notice it during the Street Fighter footage, when Birdie is on the right side of the screen but his voice comes out from the left speaker.

I got this cable yesterday and so far I've played on it for about 4 hours. I played Vampire Saviour, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Metal Slug, and Dodonpachi. This cable does a great job of upscaling to 720P on my LG 4K (6 series curved). It is also doing great on the 2D fighters with smoothing out the characters. I usually just run composite and get a lot of pixels on the characters. I also love the switch for 4:3 to 16:9. It's important, to me, to play in the correct aspect ratio and not have the games stretched to fill the screen. This is a great product. I like it better than their Dreamcast cable.

Just wanted to add: Fighters, Shmups, Sports Games, and Platformers make up a substantial portion of the Saturn Library. These tend to be the most sensitive to input lag, so definitely another point to consider, even if you're just trying to get back into the Saturn collection. Would hate for someone to be turned off to the Saturn just because the AV cable makes a bad experience.

What about the Pound HDMI HD Link Cable? I just got it and it looks pretty awesome to me for 30 bucks and there is no way FPGA, OSSC, Frame Master and Retrotank is that much better to justify the much higher price, it 's a Saturn, not a PS5 or some other HD or higher system, Saturn came out in 1995 when they did not even have HDMI and HD TVs were not common. Blocky 2-D graphics can only looks so good, some expensive device Can't change that. You can't make a Atari VCS game look any better by hooking it up with a HDMI converter cable of some kind, it;s still going to have 1980's flickery, crappy blocky graphics

It's not just the color and graphics, it's also the lag and latency introduced. The Pound and Hyperkin are really similar, but I prefer the fact that the Pound Cable is a dongle and I can use whatever length HDMI cable with it I need.

I haven't noticed any lag or game breaking motion blur in the Pound HDMI Cable so far but I have not used it much yet. Maybe it might be too bright but that might be how I have my TV set up and have to adjust it's settings.

There's is some there, done are now sensitive to it than others. That being said it's an ok place to start, but I'm the long run, there are better (but more expensive) options out there.

The color is off on the Pound HDMI HD Cable, in the Thunder Force 5 intro video the large Text "VASTEEL" that is supposed to be red is pink, don't know about other colors. Also I think there might be a lag that effects game play because when I was playing Hyper 3-D Pinball I kept losing the ball past the flippers even tough I was sure I pressed the shoulder buttons that operate the flippers quickly enough to hit the ball. I also tried Street Fighter Zero 3 and lost to the second round but I suck at Street Fighter and don' t like it so I don't know if I lost because of lag or because I suck at it.

Some people (like Bob) talk about these Hyperkin adapters and other cheap adapters like they're just utter garbage. I've used the Nintendo Hyperkin adapter (which uses the S-video signal), and I've compared it to using the RAD2X with an RGB mod, and the difference wasn't nearly as big as I had been led to believe, though I'm sure it could make a bigger difference with some games than others, or it could make a bigger difference on some systems than others. Of course, I do think it's better to have a lower latency option, but BOY do the better options sure cost a lot more! I think if your system has RGB output as an option, that's where paying more for an option which can use that RGB signal is likely to make a big difference and actually be worth usinjg (and using RGB vs. composite or S-video can also be a bigger difference on some systems than others). I'm sure it's POSSIBLE to make an HDMI adapter with the same features and roughly the same quality as the Retrotink 2X Classic for a lot less than what the Classic, or its successor, the Retrotink 2X pro, goes for. I'm sure most people would be willing to pay double the price of a Hyperkin for something like the Retrotink 2X Pro, but the Retrotink 2X Pro costs more than four times as much, and that's before taking into consideration the cost of shipping, which is also likely to be higher than buying a Hyperkin cable on Amazon.

I respect Bob a lot, he has a lot of knowledge, but he and I don't agree on a number of things. I know his position on clone systems, especially things like the RetroN 5. If not for that system I would not have gotten back into retro gaming and this channel would not exist. That is a fact. I hate CRTs, that makes me a heathen in some people's eyes. My feeling is as long as you're having fun that's all that counts.

So would this work well with an elgato hd game capture?, because I have a tv but it doesn't support 240p through HDMI because when I connect it to the capture device it shows up on my capture software but on my TV it shows "no signal", also does the cable upscale the 240p signal to 420p or 720p?

I would think so, NTSC and NTSC-J can normally share accessories, it's going to PAL where you can sometimes run into issues.

Its does help that the saturn supports rgb/scart right out of the box. So it's not like it's taking a composite video signal. It's most likely taking the rgb signal making it do less work to upscale

To me it seemed blurry, like if the cable introduced a smoothing filter, or was taking s-video or composite signal instead of RGB. Saturns do not need to be modded to output RGB. Hm... I wonder why they went with tapping into the lower video quality

I'm more of a CRT guy myself but for some consoles I love these type of devices, I do know what those higher end devices you mentioned are, but for some consoles either ones with poor image quality or 6th gen consoles I'd rather play on my BenQ Zowie 1124 monitor...some consoles to my eyes just don't look good on a CRT, I like using one for most 240p consoles but the Sega Genesis is beyond bad.

It outputs 720P, so that may be compression from either the capture device, my render, or KZbin Compression you're seeing.

The cable is not bad for those who just plug and play the Saturn is good enough but I notice the background of Rayman glitch out for some strange reason if you see it at 6:19 on the video but eventually it goes back to normal which is weird. Anyway for those who just wants play the Saturn then is fine but for those who want the best output then they have to use the ossc o framemister insted but that for another topic. Great review as alwaysy friend.

I don't think the graphic glitch in Rayman was related to the cable, I think the system didn't load the background code properly.

These cables convert RGB from the system to HDMI. So way better than one of those AV to HDMI adapters since those adapters use composite video for the conversion. Same with the Hyperkin ps1/ps2 cables(RGB to HDMI).

Actually, these do not tap into the RGB outputs, generally they only take the composite signal and upscale that. That's why the HD Retrovision cables look superior

Yes they do use rgb. Open one up and look. Points on the motherboard are labeled RGB and I've also used these with a RGB amp in a Duo by wiring up a Din connector on the end. Same as pound and level hike cables. They all use the RGB signal and even have the same main chip inside.

I have the ponds and Hyperkin ones, sometimes it's the games that are the issue, they'are just too old, I have some that look great and others that look bad. So it's a hit and miss.
