Hi all - lots of questions about how to set up Neo as a plugin in On1. I got the below instructions from On1 directly. If you still cannot get it to work, please contact their support team. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! If you have Photoshop installed, the easiest thing to do it is to set the “Secondary Plugin Folder” location in our preferences to Photoshop’s plugin folder, which is set by default when you press the Choose button. If you don’t have Photoshop installed you need to manually copy the photoshop plugin file from the Luminar application folder into our plugin folder, as their plugin installer does not recognize any third-party plugin hosts and lacks the ability to configure one. Here are the files and paths: Windows Copy "C:\Program Files\Skylum\Luminar Neo\LuminarNeo.8bf” to C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\ON1\ON1 Photo RAW 2022\PhotoshopPlugins\ macOS Make an alias to the Luminar Neo app bundle in the Applications folder, then move the alias to ~/Library/Application Support/ON1/ON1 Photo RAW 2022/PhotoshopPlugins

Me, too! I have an iMac and discovered ON1's ability to finally run Neo right after the release of 2022.5. When Photoshop plugins are run from ON1, you wind up with with an extra ONPHOTO file. These files can become quite large, depending on the number of new and stamped layers that are created. But the workflow is much more efficient.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
thanks Bob and yes the workflow is excellent now!
@fjperras2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's it. You have just described my workflow (Windows users have been able to do plugins for a while). I totally agree that combining ON1 Photo RAW and Luminar Neo is an awesome combo for all your image post-processing. Only subtlety I do different is I duplicate the Neo layer instead of stamping it before my final edits but end result is the same. It is worth pointing that ON1 Photo RAW does not support what is known as "smart object" in other software. Which means one drawback: What Neo returns is baked in the ON1 layer (so you can't go back to Neo with edit details retained). I do the non plugins round-trip when that is important to me, which is not often. Good news is the "smart object" feature has been requested to ON1 and they marked as the request "under review". Finger's crossed that it makes it to an update or future release. Your video was music to my ears. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks Frederic and I did not know about On1 supporting smart objects, so yes that would be amazing. Not sure I would really use it, but still great to have just in case. Thanks for watching!

Hi Jim. I wasn’t aware that Neo can be invoked as a plug in in On1. Thanks. It makes a world of difference to Neo, because you now get access to Luminosity masking, apart from the other powerful utilities in On1. Thanks again for the heads up. If only On1 would allow the TK 8 action panel as a plug in it would in my view be a game changer for On1 over LR etc.

Now to really learn Affinity Photo for my triad workflow. Could you give an in-depth tutorial on creating a water mark via layers, brush creation or whatever way I missed?

Hi Jim, I'd seen this video before but didn't pay a lot of attention but now that On1 Photo Raw 2023 is on the way, I wanted to take another look particularly as there is now a choice of the new extensions for Luminar Neo and what looks like similar tools in On1. So I'm looking at cancelling my Lightroom Classic with Photoshop (which I don't use) subscription and buying (not subscribing) to On1 PhotoRaw. Question - do you think the Raw processing of On1 (maybe using Neo as a plugin) is as good as Lightroom which is the industry standard? Many thanks for all your great videos BTW.
@vclparke2 жыл бұрын
Woohoo and it works with Windows as well as Mac. It was worth taking a punt on pre-ordering NEO even though I plan to keep using On1 as my core product, since it is more fully featured. A long wait since last September, but it has now all come together.

yay.. you are getting to where I've hoped for years....on1 for all the cataloging and basic development then plugins out to Neo and Topaz Studio for my artistic images. But what you did in Neo this time can for the most part be done within ON1 with the one exception being the extra masking beyond sky in Neo.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed and yep lots of power and control in On1, and I think it pairs nicely with Luminar. Sure, I can do most of this in On1 but I feel like some of the tools in Neo, even though they "do the same thing" as similar-named tools in On1, sometimes have slightly different results. So depending on the tool, I may prefer to do it in Neo instead. Thanks.

Jim, you answered a question I have posted on a few KZbin Channels asking; Is it worth buying ON1 when I already have Luminar Neo, and you answered it PERFECTLY with this Video. I also prefer to open Neo through ON1 (I will hopefully follow your instructions below and get it to work), as I recently gave up on Lightroom Classic due to an issue that screwed up my entire Catalog, so I moved to CC and got it all working but of course lost the ability to open files through Plugins, which I should have checked before migrating I guess! who knew?! I still don't understand why you can't use the open through Plugin function with CC, and also why the Color Calibration option to use the Color Card I have, also is missing, so I have to do a whole long process using other software to get that to work .. ok ok .. enough moaning ! thanks ever so much for this Video .. @@JimNix I think I found a workaround. If I am working out of Apple Photos and I select edit, I can send the edit out to Luminar Neo. When I save in Luminar Neo, the RAW file will still be intact in Apple photos with the Luminar edits. Then I can share it off to On1 Effects/Portrait etc. for additional work. Then when I save it in the On1 extension, then those changes will be back in photos with the RAW file in tact. Well, at least this is how it appears. Thanks for getting back to me.

Incredibly interesting Jim. As regards RAW processing I thought that the best is DXO, followed by Capture One .... I was wondering how good a RAW processor On1 is in the scheme of things compared to the aforementioned ?? My thoughts being that if On1 stacks up favourably then I'd willingly bounce about in only On1 and Neo (as you have very ably demonstrated) and forget all other software.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger and thanks. DXO is great for raw files for sure, but I do not have C1 so I am not sure about that one (although I hear good things). I do think On1 does a great job with my raw files but I haven't compared it to DXO specifically. I just like the integrated and easy workflow of On1 and how much is included in the app. Then as I showed here when you pair it with Luminar you can get a huge amount of power and control with just 2 apps. You could always download a trial of On1 to see how you like it. Thanks!
@StunDamage2 жыл бұрын
If we are talking pure image quality of the RAW rendering (demosaicing, optical corrections), On1 is nowhere near as good as DxO or C1. Definitely comparable to the rest though (Lightroom, ACDsee, etc), which is to say it's fine if you aren't a pixel-peeper. Now, if you already own DxO, do keep your initial RAW conversion there as it will extract more detail from your files. On1 is more feature-rich, though, so it can be beneficial to bounce the files to it for additional development. The workflow goes like this: 1)You render the file in DxO 2)Extract it as a linear DNG with demosaicing and lens corrections already applied (it's basically a halfway developed RAW that still keeps it's dynamic range for further editing) 3) Open the DNG in On1 and use whatever features you like. Just don't do the precise colour work in DxO, as the DNG files are still RAW and can therefore be unstable in terms of colour rendering between programs. So leave this step for On1 if you plan to finish the image there. Applying stuff like DeepPRIME or ClearView to the DNG is safe, though, you can do that in step 1 if needed.
