Like mixing (or checking) in Mono, with a Pink Noise on in the background. And my latest being letting Sonarworks Reference setup my Sennheiser HD 660S for an as flat curve signal as possible before mixing. It also recognized my USB interface Focusrite 2i2. Just dont forget to turn it off before exporting the audio to be rendered.. 👍
@AndrewZeleno1
@AndrewZeleno1 4 жыл бұрын
I hope you know that mixing in mono requires all stereo instruments to be mono compatible otherwise this trick doesn't work. Pink Noise approach is considered like bullshit by many professionals for some real reasons. Sonarworks is good for monitors where you can measure your room. Even in this case it doesn't always work to show details with problems. That's why pros stick with specific monitors for ages. But Sonarworks is ok. Not for headphones though because the flat response is not the only issue of headphones. And Each pair of headphones have tolerance so if it's not measured by Sonarworks for you specifically it may be not correct. I have a current student now who hates 660s so much that he claims there is no way how to find issues with audio on it :) I don't have experience with 660s myself. So I mean all your 3 suggestions are very questionable :)

I hope to start the course soon but tonight I also hope after this video that I accelerate as fast as I did in quality like the last time. I dedicated myself for the last two-and-a-half years alone to forge my own understanding and when I get good quality knowledge like I do from Andrew it integrates almost seamlessly and even brings clarity to existing idea structures

Hi man. Name yourself how I know you from the course. Your youtube name doesn't give me a clue. I never promoted analog gear. I say it by myself all the time that even though plugins don't sound like analog gear I prefer plugins myself for the workflow and opportunity to come back to the project.

@@AndrewZeleno1 Hi Andrew, on skype I´m Ken T. I know you don´t promote analog gear and you never did. But you were always showing examples of both worlds and I was like, I know those plugins and this is the device from which it all comes from. It felt so exiting to me and I decided to try it out by myself. So I bought my first analog compresor (dbx 160xt) and as I was turning knobs for the first time I fell in love :D Now I am building my second Pultec eq from AML and I love it, it feels so fun to me... However I still do a lot of work in the box for the convenience and workflow so I ended up with a hybrit setup, it just feels good to me...

I also always advice to learn the stuff you own, instead of buying the 50th compressor without knowing what it's actually doing, that's also why I deleted lots of plugins and use cubase stock plugins + native instruments stuff + a few melda plugins (free pack is awesome)

Tbh before I started the course I had no idea how important this stuff is, I thought I'd just research 'the best compressor', 'the best EQ' buy those and be done. Of course now I know better, I get to know how all these plugins really work and when it's appropiate to use them and I didn't have to spend years testing them myself and racking my brain so that's great, thanks for sharing your years of experience!!

You show it good and people like you are very important, because they know much more what is good + what not and even if it's little things, it can help a lot to make a better sound. Of course everyone has it's own style and you can listen different music of different artist's and find sometimes the same producer of a song that you like. Have always fun, enjoy the days and good luck with everything + everyone too👋🙂

Yes and I hope you it's all ok too 👍. It's always interesting and I keep your mixing course in mind. The problem is that i must sometimes use another instrument (and kicks are one of the parts where I can't find a good way) as I want, because the instrument (like a piano) makes bad frequencies fights because of the reverb that is in the instrument itself (a piano in the plugin 'sytrus' in fl Studio 11(I only have 11, because I lost the password in the past...)) and I want a quick cut for the release time, but nothing helps so I must look which instrument is more clean for the chords I used. And other stuff that the song is more together (and makes so a warm sound). But I will try my best 😤. See you and have fun with everything, thank you for your tip(s) + answer and make you nice days 👋😊🍹🌌

Hi, by the way you talk directly to the watchers you can see this is a man that knows what he says and talks exactly what you need to know. Nothing too much. Only valuable films and lessons or advice. Even your opinions are just facts and also proven. So I have been trying to become a hobbyist audio mixing and mastering producer. As an ex dj I have feeling for music and an absolute hearing and som skills in mixing without thinking what I do. Pure through the feeling or the vibez. Now I am not 40 anymore and I am traveling about half year throughout the world. So my ears hav ha their share. Air engine sounds, polution, traffic in Bangkok and New York or India. Not very good for dj ears who has worked in very loud clubs. Not deaf but my ears did have their share of decibels. Abd getting older means loss of frequencies right? So I don't have a lot of time or can not plan easily short timed. I would try with my macbook pro 2.9Ghz 16 RAM in my hotels to study. Is that possible The sound is ok it's the 2017 Macbook Pro. I also can use a headset by Pioneer either the HDJ 1500 or the newer but both are. dj's headphones. Will all this be ok to attend the course? At home I also dont have studio speakers Will I need that? My speakers at home are from Bang & Olufsen or a pair of JBL huge speakers with 135 Db . No studio speakers yet. Would I need that? And last question I am very insecure and when I let others hear they like my work.. or trying projects. Its way not work yet. Not even close I think. Can you during the course listen also to my progress? I seriously cant believe l can become secure about a standard or perfect good mixed and mastrered track. Or as you call it become a guru! English is not ny native tongue but I have many questions and why's ( my insecurities) So if you think I can be tauught and learn this in 9 months, I would love to attend the course. When can we start? And reeaslly the professionalism of the explanations.. You are the best teacher on the entire web so far I have seen.

Thanks! In this video I 'm sure you learned a lot. Poeple usually can say that UAD has the 2nd harmonic only and by turning low cut it goes up in volume but EQ section doesn't modify it. But on Softube Console 1 they emulated many different balances between 8 harmonics with every sweet spot position. Waves Analog button is high noise with levels around -100db. So other 50 hints from this video.

Don't worry about it now. The whole course you will be learning tool as deep as you can imagine. So it's not about tell me what to use. It will be check how to listen to, decide what tool is the most suitable, and know every little detail on each tool to find the one in every situation. As for CLA MixHub I don't recommend it but it will be too long to explain why in text.

Acoustica Audio maked the Avalon 2055 called Amber. Pretty sure its better than UAD.
@AndrewZeleno1
@AndrewZeleno1 4 жыл бұрын
I simply don't consider Acoustica Audio as an option. It kills the computer resources. Also, When I compared it to some of real devices AA plugins didn't look like similar things to real tools in some aspects to be honest.

@@AndrewZeleno1 it has been tested on current cpus and some are getting 100+ plugins to use at one time. Of course that depends on if your mixing at 44.1 or 96khz. What sample rate do you usually mix at? The cpu usage definitely was an issue that was tackled by AA. Since there are 30 day trials on AA I would love to hear your opinion on Sand3 which is AA's latest revision of the SSL.
@AndrewZeleno1
@AndrewZeleno1 4 жыл бұрын
Sand3 is good in audio quality in comparison to some of plugins. It still has very strange layout and specific nuances which makes it unusual even for experienced SSL user like me. But for me the biggest no is the workflow with it. I need to activate filters, choosing type of filter. I just need knobs and it's done like on real SSL. This plugin makes it way slower. Also, strange numbers around Q. For example Brown Knob should have 12db/oct for low cut and Type B which is Brown Knob. But all three options for low cut there are 18db/oct. And I can name other 10 nuances which are very questionable. But the biggest question is CPU usage anyway.

@@AndrewZeleno1 @Andrew Zeleno If you tried Bitwig 3 you know its not the same. Its not even the same to version 1. During 10 years or so Iv tried Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Logic Pro X, Orion Platinum etc etc... And i can tell you NOTHING compares to Bitwig Version 3 for practicality & ingenuity reasons. It is simply Revolutionary in the way it makes your life so much easier than the other DAW's. Belive me, i hated Version 1 of it, Version 3 is a radically diffrent story! Why is it better? - Because it acually helps you focus on getting a better producer! - No other DAW has managed to do that for me! Just Sayin! 👍

If you mean it's more convenient for you I can understand. But if you mean it makes you sound better or produce better music it doesn't work like that. On the course I concentrate of students' skills. And tools are important of course but it's the least important. Plus if you have experience like I have which is 15 years as a professional (occupation) audio engineer/producer then I'm sure you know that there is no better tool. For something one thing is better. For the other thing the other thing is better.
