You should've taken a look under the silver disc in the bathroom - the waste from sinks etc don't normally have a trap on and the water drains to the contraption under that disc which is a kind of trap and thats where air is allowed in - unfortunately they're often fitted badly so they let air out as well...! The boiler must have been changed because they would usually have 20mm tails on - but fit what you've got it'll be ok José

Nice observations. But there is a very important element in the bathrooms in Spain: “symphonic bottle”, which all pipes go to and it prevents bad smells to go into the bathroom. If it is not correctly done, it is a nightmare.

I like the way you didn’t just say crap pipework but explained what the consequences were. Also a walk around the villa really helped put us in there rather than just showing us pipes and a boiler. More of a proper “program” than a KZbin plumbers video. YES, more of this type please.

My two cents. I've had 35 years in trades in spain and UK., multitrader or general builder . The quality of construction in general in spain in civil and private is in another league in my opinion. Sure, there are exceptions. I find the quality of construction work in uk to be lacking. And that is putting ut lighlty. Don't shoit the messenger peeps 😂
@markrainford12196 күн бұрын
You forgot to mention all screwed fittings use BSP threads. Thirty years ago, when everyone else was stuffing their suitcases with duty-free, I was stuffing mine with quarter turn hose bib taps and flexible hoses. We just did not have them over here in Blighty. Of course they are common now. Also, wastes generally drain to a central gully trap in a room, which does need regular cleaning out to work right. The small bore plumbing is a consequence of the fact that fresh water has to be manufactured on a small, relatively densely populated sub tropical island.

Plumbing standards in Spain do vary, just as in the UK, but my main concern with my house near Granada, unlike my home in Scotland, is with the extremely hard water supply which eats heater elements, blocks copper pipes and damages metal fittings. I installed a water softener and now have no problem with calcium deposits, high flow is maintained to all taps, the water cylinder lasts much longer and heater elements remain uncontaminated. Mains water pressure in my small town must be very high as recently the heavy duty plastic inlet water filter burst which caused a major leak, thankfully into the street and not through the house. Also, I know where all copper pipes are buried as I ragged the walls myself before letting the Spanish plumber loose. So far, no drilling accidents!

I thought in Fuerteventura they have to have a water tank and pump due to water outages or very poor flow? My parents have a tank in their 'roof shed' about 30 mins from where you stayed and even with 3 bathrooms, the solar water heater copes without ever needing the immersion heater. The utility room sink does get a bit wiffy but at least they have bidets for those challenging number twos. In that heat there is nothing like a refreshing splash to keep your pipes clean. 🚽🔧😆 'Bob on'!

No heating and we thought that's finevas it never gets too cold. Next time we went..... it snowed for the first time in 40 years. We had to move the beds away from the external walls as they were absolutely 🥶🥶🥶

This installation seems pretty sub-standard, specially considering they are using braided flexies as inlet and outlet. I would argue, in the Canary Islands they hardly ever need to use much hot water though, but still, it seems the landlord of the holiday rental tends to do things on the very cheap. There are some good Spanish fontaneros online that can prove this not to be the norm of this contry. You are very right on vents, it's never been a thing to install vents. That is something I will have to address myself in my own house, as I would expect if I ask a fontanero add vents to drain pipes, they'll think I'm an alien. Enjoy your hols!

really enjoyed the video I have a house in Spain and as much a s i like the Spanish people the plumbing is pretty terrible. However you can do most anything --repairs wise-- yourself and it will end up being a better job that the original... HOWEVER .. if your you get a main pipe leak, (they are actually laid inside the walls/brickwork of the house with cement slapped over them to stop movement ) so a plumber will literally smash the walls out in a horizontal fashion along where they think the pipes probably are until they find the leak..... though i did hear on newer builds they are starting to put the pipes where they can get to them with out wrecking the house. This was my experience, i am hoping i just had a bad plumber.

The hot and cold plumbing looks pretty much like a German DIN design that's common in most of central and southern Europe. The French and Belgians do things differently. Plenty of toilet cisterns have the option of putting the feed behind the cistern and having an isolation valve inside the actual cistern, accessible by removing the lid. Looks a lot neater but first fix location needs to be spot on. Back in the old days plumbers used chrome plated 8 mm copper pipe rather than flexies, neater but more difficult to install. Those isolation valves still always come with nuts and olives for 8 mm copper. Even earlier, when cisterns were still 8 feet up in the air, plumbers just ran 1/2" lead to the cistern in a sweeping bend and had a chunky gate valve right against the cistern. Your drainage issues sound like poor design, U bends shouldn't be sucked dry. Not sure about Spain but elsewhere the centre of your first fix drain is supposed to be the centre of the sink and the height should be close enough that you don't need anything like this flexi crazyness. Usually traps have a longer vertical pipe than the one under your sink and you can buy extensions if your first fix is too low. The 100 l hot water cylinder is fairly normal European fare if you haven't got a combi boiler but the connections are definitely undersized. Probably a bodge job from when the tank was moved into the corner from its original location.

Looks like the Spanish version of,your ''Flexi Friday'' for the waste on that new, minimalist Vanity sink in the Bathroom, that and two low mounted secret double gang lighting switches buried / hidden on that wall within the unit close to a water source, shouldn't have been signed off on, as for Venting, ...Mc Alpine air admittance valve to the main wastes externally and internally would be a gift also likes same in the, sinks, and showers wastes , could help with the flow too...everything as you would say seems, very Heath Robinson, Plumbers firing stuff in and running to the next Job... as you mentioned obviously serious scope for a serious and robust Solar water Tank system on the Roof , with electric back up in same... as for the Pipe geometry with, 'step down' fittings going into and strangling that small electric water heater allied with the pressure drop ,giving lack of flow to same, Mad stuff...

I enjoyed this. I have a villa in Spain and all of the building work is shoddy. It’s interesting to see new buildings going up - the safety standards are a joke; the walls look like they’ve been built by a 5 year old; the plumbing and electrics look terrible. But then they clad it all in render and it looks great. I’m always amazed when people view the show homes (which are immaculate) but you can see the awful quality of the other half-built units. Spain does many things better than us …. Building isn’t one of them! Having said that, our washing machine and boiler are outside in our backyard. They are unprotected and get rained on regularly. They still work perfectly after 15 years 😂

I live in Spain and do a lot of plumbing electrical work here. There truly are no standards. No one inspects anything so homeowners are able to do as they please after they've purchased a property. Also there are no inspections on houses here when you buy. There are a lot of "chapuzas" here and the people are generally accustomed to them now. Some people do very good work and the country is catching up compared to northern europe. In all honesty though, the salaries are so low in Spain that most people can't afford quality work. Side note.. those air conditioners not being fixed down is a disgrace.
