​@HydroNYC electrician from Houston, and gotta say, remodel work, or work in existing functioning buildings or facilities can be crazy af. I'm a Forman, most of the work we do is new construction(high rise buildings) which is a whole ass animal in its own. We did an addition of 3 floors approximately 15,000sqft and remodeled another 15000sqft. The shit we had to go through to shut down critical and life safety equipment was crazy. Remodeled the first floor all while the second floor was still in operation, which was a NICU. Stressful af to think that of we fucked anything up we could cost a new born or a mother their lives. 😅😅 thankfully all went well. Shit was 4 years ago and it's still in the back of my head daily. Major props to you and your business, and in NYC, sheesh.

In Europe the trades are thriving and you can still find artists who work construction. In America everything is about the bottom line and the skills are leaving our trade slowly.

Hats off to maintenance plumbers who work in ancient apartment high density blocks on the regular . Working while you have someone on your back so they can turn the water back on is always fun. That’s if you even know how and where to turn it off to begin with. Don’t even get me started on The jobs where every parking spot has a parking officer ready to write you up if you stay 5 minutes to long. New York should be the highest paid plumbers in the country

Worst part of working in large apartment complexes or multistory ones, especially older buildings where you cannot isolate individual apartments, is having to shut off water to the entire building. Tenants badger you when you have to go out to the truck.

You learn from your failures more than your successes. We would always price a miscellaneous fee depending on the size of job. Anywhere from $100 -$500 to cover these types of situations. Tile is always time consuming and any extra heckling from sups or gc's makes it worse and stressfull. Im glad you grew from this instead just complaining. You as a leader have to come up with solutions to any problem on top of the everyday life. Sometimes its about the journey.
