Not sure how that would be different in Ireland. I live here and that set up is the exact same as I have bar we have more switches that divert water based on controls and need to be powered by electricity to control. The issue here is that poor water pressure means direct from mains to heating in the boiler is harder to do as you cannot get enough water heated via mains water pressure fast enough to offer enough heat on the fly water pressure. My experience here is that combi boilers are a mystery to most plumbers unless there is no room to fit a water tank and cylinder (apartments/offices etc) . In fact the UK has stronger efficiency rules now that we do (boiler Plus)

Thank you very much for helping me understand. How does a Hot water boiler work in conjunction with a hot water tank. For example we have the boiler heat the tank up for 30 mins at 6am and 6pm. However what if we were to let the hot water tank heat the water in the tank for say 4 hours or more each day, would this be wasting energy? Or would the tank tell the boiler to stop heating the water when the tank was at the optimum temperature? I'm just curious as if i should be setting the boiler to heat the water in the tank longer than the 30 mins each day? WE have plenty of hot water for 2 of us in the hous with this set up, but i wondered if i increased the time would this be wasting energy?

I'm here also wondering the same thing, by the sounds of things I'm assuming it would constantly be heating water and once it's hot then switches off

One item missing is that many hot water cylinders have immersion backup as you show and some have a bath setting which I presume either means more heat or more of the immersion coil. Some mention of the different cylinder types would be useful and do all pipes still have to be copper? Cylinders for Heat pump and solar heating would be good to see. Also can you note why expansion cylinders seem to be used as well if there is a header tank?
