Pluot varieties fruitset

Follow up to "Pluot varieties flowering" video: • Pluot varieties flowering
That video showed overlap in bloom and therefore cross-pollination potential. This video is meant to show the actual fruitset that occurred.
Pluot varieties shown in the videos: Dapple Dandy, Flavor Grenade, Flavor King, and Splash. Also shown is Burgundy plum.
I'm located in Ramona, San Diego County, California; Sunset Zone 20.

Flavor grenade is delicious! But I've only ever seen people complain about how they can't get them to set fruit. I would love to try growing it.

i didn't know about pluots until I got some from Costco... the Dino brands are supposedly Dapple Dandies. I got myself a flavor king and a Japanese Beauty Plum which I was told was a pollinator but they may have different blossoming times. My flavor king blossomed early and I took them off, have yet to see any blossoms on the Beauty.

I definitely think Dapple Dandy is worth growing. Sets tons of fruit for me, reliably. I use Burgundy plum as a pollenizer.

Greg I am surprized at your fruit set, how many hours of chilling do you get, does this happen every year

I'd estimate 500-600 chill hours. I don't get great fruitset on my pluots every year, but I do get very good fruitset most years. They are among my yard's most reliable trees. The bloom is just starting right now and looks to be excellent this year, as it's been so constantly chilly.

Gorgeous Pluots! I love pluots so much. I saw a 4 in 1 at Home Depot this evening. First one I have seen locally like that actually. I passed on it but I'm kicking myself a little. I might swing by to pick it up tomorrow though! I'm running out of room on my property! Thanks for the videos. Please keep it up. I really enjoy your trees. Take care

Hi Greg, can you speak about the flavor of the splash pluot variety? No one seems to have it or speak about it on KZbin. I read somewhere the taste resembles a rainer cherry, I would love that.

I like Splash a lot. It has great color, going from a light orange to being blushed with deep pink if you leave it on the tree long enough. In the early part of its season it has a nice tang but gets sweeter as it hangs longer, of course. Like most good pluots, Splash remains crisp even as it gets very sweet too. It is one of my favorites, for sure.
