Something that's always interested me about Plup is how he just does this kind of thing ALOT. Winning or losing, if he doesn't wanna play he just kinda gives up mid-set. He's still good enough that him not trying can still net him a set win as this set also proves. I've always felt like Plup could be the best player in the world if he just had the mental fortitude to continue playing as incredible as he's shown capable to do. It's definitely not easy to have that will, especially against even better players, but he's capable of so much and he's so emotive you can see the moment he tunes out the game usually, at any time in the set. This set and video is a really good introspective on a big trend for someone like Plup. Great video.

I think one of my favorite ultimately insignificant sets in Melee history has to be Taj vs. Colbol at The Big House 6. It was Taj's only major tournament that year, and he hadn't made a particularly notable run at any Melee tournament since Evo 2013 over three years prior. Then out of nowhere, he comes back to beat the No. 25 player in the world with Mewtwo, finishing in 33rd. From what I remember, that was Taj's last really notable win at a major tournament.
@benzed374 жыл бұрын
the big house 6 is full of those sets. axe vs r2dliu, zain vs plup (it didn't matter for a while, after that) and I think rudolph vs ice? Big House is always filled with anomalous sets.

I think he mentioned enough of that in the video. His main point is that life isn't a story, where there's a clear main thread that summarizes absolutely everything. This is sometimes true, but the world is often a lot more complicated than that. If Melee, and the world in general, had a script, then there would be tons of dropped plot arcs and no deeper meaning. Looking for grand narratives generally ends up with you being flat-out wrong. Sometimes, there is no real deeper meaning to analyze.
