I usually put a thin fabric tube around the wire and stuff it to make tails for wearing on a belt for costumes. The thin fabric with stuffing around it protects the wire from poking through when wearing to conventions or even for daily wearing. After you make this you can add the outer layer of the tail to make it look like whatever type of tail you make. You just make the outer part put the wire with fabric and stuffing around it inside and then put more stuffing as needed. It's how I do it for costumes especially with children wearing it and playing and stuff to keep an extra layer of protection when using any wire. If needed you can use a thicker fabric around the wire. I don't make plushies that often or really at all but these can also work for tails, ears, and even horns when cosplaying if you sew some for a cosplay.

I love your tutorials so much! I really struggle with posable plush making, and I've had people give me tips but never really explaining how to do it. Thank you!

hey there! I ADORE your designs and I am so appreciative of your tutorials. Do you think that one day you will make one on how to make digitigrade legs? I have a plush of a dnd Character of mine I am trying to make, but I have found no patterns available for digitigrade legs at all, as he has little hooves. Please let me know if you have any tips/ patterns I can purchase, and if not, thank you anyway!

Thank you so much! I didn't have plans to; I'll consider it, but i would have to think about how to do this as it might be hard to cover on a video without a pattern to share. One pattern i can think of off the top of my head is this one! www.etsy.com/listing/546434768/anthro-plush-pdf-sewing-pattern

I liked the plastic armature, but I believe I will have a hard time finding it in area. Do you think it would look/feel similar if I used plastic beads on top of the wire?
@makeshiftwingsplush3 жыл бұрын
it wouldn't function the same as the plastic armature. the armature is put together like a human spine where every piece is jointed into the other, so you can't get severe angles like you can with wire (and prevents snapping which can happen with thin wire which is bent a lot). if you can't order it online to be shipped to your location, i'd recommend just using wire and if the feeling of wire inside the plush bothers you, you could wrap it in fabric.

On that last type of wire, that most heavy duty one; what size gauge is it? And do you think it would work to make a Beetlejuice Sandworm, posable plush?
@makeshiftwingsplush3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, i bought it a long time ago and it's not labeled. I'd suggest just going to a hardware store and testing out the wire in person. depending on what size plush you're going for, i'm sure it would work, but you can also use the plastic armature

How would you go about wiring just the ears of a plush? How would you 'set' the ends (where they meet the head) so they don't shift about?
@makeshiftwingsplush3 жыл бұрын
maybe make a triangle shape out of the wire instead of just a single piece, running it along the outer edges. if it's wire you should be able to poke it through the stitches where it attaches to the head for the wire to slide through, or just leave 1 or 2 stitches open. then with the stuffing holding it in place in the head, it shouldn't move

Would this method work for a 6ft dummy doll? most likely would have to use the last wire you showed in the video but, I need this dummy to be poseable.

This is perfect for my folkmanis Disney puppet as I want some thing to display them to make their arms bendable and seem like the Prototypes at toy fair

I got some pipe cleaners today in the mail, do I need a felting needle or not? I don't have wool though I have fiber fill.
@makeshiftwingsplush3 жыл бұрын
i'm not sure what you think you need a felting needle for - fiberfill is used to stuff a plush and i've never heard of using wool to do this.

Last time I had one with plastic armature they squeaked whenever you moved it. Any way to prevent that?
