Plymouth General Election results as Johnny Mercer loses his seat in Tory 'bloodbath'

High-profile Conservative minister Johnny Mercer left the election count in Plymouth with barely a word, moments after his defeat by bitter Labour rival Fred Thomas was confirmed. The Veterans Minister was one of a long list of senior Tories who lost their seats in a night described as a "bloodbath" for Rishi Sunak's defeated government.
Mr Mercer lost his Plymouth Moor View seat, while in neighbouring Plymouth Sutton and Devonport Labour's Luke Pollard extended his majority. Reform UK beat the Conservatives into second there, while they also lost South East Cornwall to Labour.
The beleaguered Conservatives did have one seat to celebrate in the Plymouth area, Rebecca Smith edging to victory in the normally safe Tory seat of South West Devon.

Luke Pollard is a sound local MP so he deserves his win. Johnny Mercer was unlucky when his party basically repeatedly screwed him over in his Veterans Minister job and the final spanner in the works was the ghastly grifters in Reform conning voters with their lies. Looking forward to Fred Thomas doing a good job for Plymouth, let us hope he also pushes for the completion of the rebuild of the city’s Derriford Hospital.
