I would like to understand more in detail between 1. Multidivisional - Virtual 2. Matrix Strong - Project Oriented (Composite , Hybrid) Somehow these organizations details are similar to each other but also differs in certain aspects.
@EduHubSpot6 жыл бұрын
1. Multidivisional - Virtual. Think of multidivisional as you work for a multinational company. They have offices in 5 different countries. Country 1 is Head office. Country 2 has factory. Country 3 has manufacturing unit and etc etc. Each country has their own way of managing it. Now on other end virtual is just like completely working from home. 2. Matrix Strong - Project Oriented (Composite , Hybrid): Strong matrix is where you have both project manager and functional managers but PM has more power than FM. Other end composite organization is where you are working in a particular type of organization but then you suddenly got a new project which won’t be successful if you follow your basic approach. So you made changes around your project. This type of organization is known as composite. In project oriented organizations PM is boss. PM does everything. From HR to releasing the resources. Everything is done by PM

I am always confused on how to distinguish between weak matrix and functional organization when it comes to scenario based questions. Is there any key word or distinguishing favtor which can help me pick the right choice? Thanks
@jasmeetkphotographyllc33345 жыл бұрын
Hi Varun, I have series of questions related to "Roles on a project" where all the roles are clearly mentioned in this presentation. Now my questions are Q - why there is no such role defined as Operations Manager?? As I understand it is very crucial role to run and manage any business operations. Also in PMBOK pg 59 (section Strategic and Business Management Skills) it is stated that “PM should seek out and consider the expertise of the operational managers who runs the business in their organization.” Q If you say Senior Management comes under Operation Management - I would still be confused because the only role which is used to run the business operations is Operations Manager (practically used in any org.) and I worked under lot of senior managers who always come under leadership team. (practically) Q Who are Functional Managers ? The managers who are providing resources in the project. But again Are functional managers the operational managers?? Q Can I have one practical IT industry example to differentiate between Senior Manager, Operations Manager and Functional Manager? If these are all individual roles.

Your answers are below Q - why there is no such role defined as Operations Manager?? It may not be defined specifically but operations manager is definitely a role. Q If you say Senior Management comes under Operation Management - I would still be confused because the only role which is used to run the business operations is Operations Manager (practically used in any org.) and I worked under lot of senior managers who always come under leadership team. (practically) It all depends upon type of organization you work in. Senior management is a very broad role. It may or may not come under operations management. Q Who are Functional Managers ? The managers who are providing resources in the project. But again Are functional managers the operational managers?? Yes functional managers are the ones who give resources in a matrix or functional organizations. Operational mangers may or may not be functional. It just depends form case to case. Q Can I have one practical IT industry example to differentiate between Senior Manager, Operations Manager and Functional Manager? If these are all individual roles. Senior manager could be lets say is Director. Functional manager could be Integration manager who will give resources for project. Operational manager is help desk manager who is troubleshooting on support tickets. Again all of these roles can overlap.

Very clear explanation. Is it possible to share the tables, pictures/diagrams in description link. I like the Organization type with "Project Characteristics" table, is it possible to share?

Will there be direct question on Roles on a Project? Like what is the role of a functional manager? As PMBOK mainly focused on Project Manager
@EduHubSpot6 жыл бұрын
Yes Kasturi, you may get a question on different roles on the project. They may give you a scenario and ask what role are they talking about. For example: They may say: Who is responsible for defining the strategies? The answer is sponsor here. Did you go over the different organizational types?
@kasturidasgupta79536 жыл бұрын
Yes and I understand them.

16:33 I like this triangle. To be a PM, however, do we have to have that technical knowledge? I thought we just have to manage the people in the team? Is it just an advantage to be an effective PM?
@EduHubSpot5 жыл бұрын
Its just an advantage if you are technically sound

Hi, this was really informative. Could you provide me an example of Guilt based power. 21:35
@EduHubSpot4 жыл бұрын
Sure. Lets say you have helped one of your team member in time of crisis. This help was outside of project environment. Now because of this nice gesture from you, that resource feel obliged. Now in one of your project, you ask the resource to do some tasks for you which that resource may not be required to do so. But he/she continues to do that for you as he/she feels obliged of that gesture which you did earlier. This is kind of an guilt based power used. If you need more resources, do check out my website: www.eduhubspot.com/packages/pmp

@EduHubSpot6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashish, Watch the framework video on introduction. It has information on iterative, incremental, adaptive life cycles which is briefly touching agile. Keep one thing in mind. There are few agile concepts described in different knowledge areas (For instance schedule) over there we have explained concepts on agile. The agile handbook is not important from PMP exam perspective. We would not recommend to spend your time on Agile. This is the link for all of our videos: eduhubspot.com/EduHubSpot/pmpVideos

At 15:45, you said that Technical Project Management is about having knowledge/ being good at one specific domain and you went on to give eg. of being good at Java, C etc. But isn't Technical Project Management about having the skills to apply project management knowledge like developing/monitoring scope, schedule etc.? "Technical project management skills are defined as the skills to effectively apply project management knowledge to deliver the desired outcomes for programs or projects. " PMBOK
@EduHubSpot4 жыл бұрын
First of all sorry for replying late as I was on vacation but I agree with you. Technical project management can be any domain. For instance if one is good in HR processes, he/she can also be considered as a technical project manager managing HR projects
