Energy companies increase prices in expectation of future unit cost increases, that’s why their profits are increasing, as the cost of oil and gas has not increased as much as the increase in prices they are charging. The irony is she's made none other than Ms Coffey into her Deputy PM, who was previously in charge of the DWP/benefits, and she's the physical embodiment in both waistline and complexion of laziness and bad diet, someone who won't have lifted more than a pen in her life and would be out of breath if she tried.

Liz Truss is awful. If she seriously thinks that the public will back a plan to pay extra tax in the long term in order to subsidise excess profits now, then she's living in cloud cuckoo land. Starmer hightlighted the line in this debate and it's going to be an ongoing theme.
