I remember a brief time period where Cyber Sub-Zero was actually one of the best characters in MKXL. Then again, Triborg as a whole was insanely powerful when they first hit the scene. Sektor and Smoke are still, to this day, two of the game's best characters. CSZ is still a solid (and fun) character today, and still is miles better than in MK9, although it is not much of an accomplishment.

I know this has nothing to do with Cyber Sub-Zero's gameplay, but he easily had the best design of all Cyborgs in MK9. Since Sub-Zero's classic Fatality is him pulling the head with the spine still attached to it, making Cyber Sub-Zero's head similar to the Predator's who does a similar thing is a neat touch. (Also, funny how Predator became DLC in the next MK.)

i mean all the 4 arms in mk9 can be cheesed hella easy with the jump 2 down 2 if needed. they never could figure that out and youd catch them doing the stomp attack middair that way. of course you can do more combos after the jump 2 but if you didnt know any on the character youd do the down 2

@@PNDKM in a competitive way, yes. Not someone who picks him specifically for those moves and nothing else. The playstyle you mentioned is the way I'd expect a good player to fight, not someone who just picks him up and only runs away.

@@GasMK If you pick him up for the first time and see his mobility tools, you'll probably steer to that runaway style to begin with. It is a really effective way of playing the character, although you definitely get ragemail for it. Lol

TBF balance wise MK9 was a mess and MKX was all execution and vortex but very little fundamentals. MK11 is the most competitively balanced but it doesn't have the crazy stuff. I love the crazy stuff but hate no balance. It's a weird middle ground for me all the time.

@@PNDKM I agree with you. Mk11 is well balanced, but the main reason why I loved fighting game in the first place was because of all the flashy and long combos. All those 40-50% combos you see on MKx isn't that satisfying on Mk11 as some characters can just get it with one string into krushing blow or something

I always wished that the story in X and 11 was as good as the story in 9. nothing beats the original trilogy story, so 9’s reimagining and shuffling of details was an absolute treat to experience. the stories in X and 11 just didn’t seem to have that same amount of effort and passion that 9’s story had. 11 is passable, and it gets bonus points for Aftermath, but X was just a chore of a story to get through.

I always thought that was a massive problem with the netherrealm games, the story got harder to follow with each entry and the narratives from each game never really gel for me. I always thought the story should go remake of mk1/2 next game mk 3/4 and then mk 11 could just be an original amalgamation of the events in the rest of the 3d era games
