It still blows my mind that they didn't bring Takeda back for 11 when he was probably the most popular of the Kombat Kids. Hope we can see him again in some way, his style, mixing Scorpion and Kenshi and making it his own, was so unique and interesting, plus he was just a great character

He wasn't, Cassie was the most popular, and Jacqui is a black woman, so the diversity hire was pushed over Takeda.. Kung Jin was actually really well liked as well for how his sexual orientation was handled. In a video I hope to make before a big trailer comes with my ideas for Mk12, all the kids but Jacqui return, Jacqui would actually die in a flashback for a decent reason. She was actually, from what I've seen, the least liked of the 4. Not due to moveset, but due to overall character.

Based on those Hotaru observations, Order Realm being structured like a giant insect hive could be an interesting take on it. But I don't think they'd do that since we have the Kytine now.

Liu Kang could restructure the Kytinn to have always been a part of the Order Realm. That way D’Vorah gets to come back, for all nine people that like her, and we get an insect themed realm. D’Vorah makes it very apparent that all she really wants is to keep the Kytinn safe, so giving her jurisdiction over the idea of Order would be perfect.

Y'know thinking here with triborg we finally finished the holy trinity of multi-style ninja characters, chameleon for the male ninjas, khameleon for the ladies and triborg for the cyborgs. Honestly much like the other two it would be quite interesting to see an incarnation of triborg that, rather than just 'be' each one of the four cyborg ninjas, mixes and matches their habilities to build his own deadly setup.

I think Female Khamelion would be a way better choice than the male one, because she can tie into Reptiles story and they could repopulate their race of Zaterrans, which is why Reptile fought for Shang and Shao Kahn in the first place. Also, Sareena has my favorite design and story in all of MK, so she would be my choice. Ashrah, Li Mei, Havik and Reiko are up there too, but Sareena is number 1 for me.

I didn't even think of Sektor, tbh. The cyborgs are such a series mainstay that I just assumed they'll be back in some form or another sooner or later. So if it was my my list, my #1 would be Sareena. She go Mythologies, two playable appearances (one of which was on a GBA game so it doesn't really count), and then a brief cameo in MKX. My girl deserves better.

I have almost the exact same picks, NRS have been doing amazingly with the 3D redesigns, a 2023 MK game with just some of a combination of Chameleon/Khameleon, Reiko, Havik, Takeda, the Cyborgs, Smoke and Reptile and you have my perfect roster.

Hotaru is one of the ones I want to see return most, alongside Ashrah and Li Mei. The 3D era had some characters with really cool storyline concepts which I'd love to see reworked and expanded in the modern day. Similar to Tremor, No-Face and Tasia would be fun characters to get a redesign too. What I want to see more than anything, though, is villains getting some chapters in the campaign so they can get some more development beyond "henchperson with an aesthetic who gets beaten up a lot". Regarding Hotaru being physically larger than other characters, Raiden is supposed to be 7 feet tall, but the games have really varied on how much they capture that.

I would love to see Taven and Dagon return,since they were supposed to be the protagonists of the series since Armageddon but got shelved for the nrs trilogy,other than being in a few endings in MKX and the pit stage. I also want to see Mileena return,but only if they do something new with her and not do the whole "daddy's girl tries to become ruler,fails miserably" story that they have done for both timelines. Maybe make her a semi good guy,working with Kitana since they have shown all she wants is to get along and have a sister. Tremor as well would be sick,since he only has had one playable appearance and has so much potential lore and moveset wise. Havik should also return as one of the major antagonists, it sucks he was limited to the MKX comics for the NRS timeline and we never got to see a proper conclusion to his story,and Nitara as well needs another shot,since she just like Baraka and Reptile has an entire race and realm where her people come from that needs more exploring.

I’m surprised just how close this list is to my own. I would basically have the exact same list but would Mavado bringing up first place. DA was my first MK and I immediately gravitated towards him. The design was on point and the grappling hooks felt like a really interesting addition as a moveset quirk. It was one of the reasons I went on to play Takeda in X because of those cords he had that reminded me of the hooks. I feel like the 3D era was probably the best in terms of world building and characterization of organizations and people. The Red Dragon had an interesting story as the more organized instead of chaotic origins of the black dragon.

I think everyone wants their favorite character to return (mine is Sheeva), but I think I would actually rather see some more obscure characters return. I saw another commenter mention Kai, and I think that would be a great return. I think Mei could also be good choice for a return appearance, beyond her cameo in MKX. I saw some other commenters mention Sareena (playable in MKA and an appearance in MK11), but I think Quan Chi also had two other named women besides Sareena as minions? Maybe have all three of them return, with the other two being their first playable appearance in an MK game.

We need at least one representative from every Mortal Kombat realm, so on top of the existing potential roster - bring back Havik (Chaos), Hotaru (Order), and Sareena or Ashrah (Netherrealm). Also Nitara so we can explore the vampire race lore Hsu Hao, Mavado, Kira, Kobra, Darrius, Dairou, Kai, Jarek, Reiko, Kollektor, Ferra/Tor, Jacqui, Kung Jin were all either failed concepts from the get go or NRS haven't done jack with them as characters. Other than that, Takeda is a must-have after my boy got shafted so badly

Someone i DO want to see back is Jarek. They could finally flesh him out as his own character instead of a Kano clone in MK4 or that barely worked on version of MKAr ("imma use a rope!"). They did an amazing job with Tremor in MKX, and Jarek being so obscure in the lore gives plenty of space to work, reimagine and develop. Chameleon/Khameleon are implied to be zaterran (aka Reptile's homies), at least in her bio, so it might be possible to make them be a variant of said race that developed a mimic ability allowing them to imitate certain moves at a lesser scale. As for the Havik/Hotaru duo i do love the idea of them being on the game, especially since their ethos make it possible for them to be on either side depending not on morals but how each see it fit, switching from bad to good side or vice versa due their perception of law vs chaos.

If there's one character I think has a lot of potential in a return appearance, it would have to be Taven. Sure, he's a bit of a blank slate and a himbo, but Takeda's arcade ending from MKX makes me wonder what an earlier-awakened Taven would bring, especially in terms of who he aligns himself with, and in turn, how that influences his moveset (like gaining some moves from Takeda, Kenshi, and Scorpion, in a quasi-nod to how Taven succeeded Shujinko in Konquest Mode). Heck, if we wanted to somehow involve him in the story, you could almost certainly imagine that, besides finding his brother Daegon, he'd also want to find where Blaze is (perhaps even being telepathically told by him to stay away) and hoping to get him on his side. Include Rain as a playable character too for heightened shenanigans, and you've got a lot of potential here.

Even if he was presented as a sorta joke character in canon, I see potential in this character if their moveset-identity was reworked for modern games. I love to see the differing opinions on people's top 5's. For me (in order), my top 5 would be 5: Sareena. I would love to see what a modern take of her would be like. And I really enjoyed her design in the brief cameo of MKX 4: Nitara. Having a vampire in MK was always a neat idea. And I would love to see her come back as an enemy to Skarlet and her blood magic. 3: Triborg: I love the cyborgs. But I really loved the idea of mixing them all together. If you think about it, Triborg was basically the Chameleon of the cyborgs. (but if I had to choose just one, I'd 100% go with robo smoke) 2: Chameleon/Khameleon. Mixing combos together using movesets from other characters in the modern age could come up with some WILD possibilities. Possibilities that I was hoping that Shang had in his MK11 ninja variation. 1: Motaro. We're way beyond the age of technical limitations. And I think it's about time to see Motaro come back. Let the Shokans have a breather, and let's bring back the real old school beast. Honorable mentions: I want Rain to return as an actual main roster fighter. And (I'll get crazy hate for this one), I also want Kobra to return 🤐

Solid picks and i agree with all of them. I would love to see Drahmin brought back as well. His look in deadly alliance was AWESOME. I'd love for him to fight like Oro from street fighter with his one normal arm being used 90% of the time, except strings or combos end with the club fist to send the opponent flying or do some fat chunk of chip damage. Also honorable mentions BUT have a very good chance of being in the game: Human form Reptile and Enenra Smoke.

Bo Rai Cho used to be the "worst Mortal Kombat character" that everyone loved to rag on, but he got to come back in MKX and over time the mantle of Community Punching Bag moved over to Hsu Hao. I feel like he could come back and be made more interesting. Since Tremor showed up in MKX, another Black Dragon member from Special Forces I can see having potential is No Face, the disfigured man who fights mostly with a flame thrower.

With how they suggested they'd be supporting MK11 for years, I'd like to see them actually make good on something like that and make a new Armageddon; at least in terms of having every character there. They could start with a base roster and add characters over ensuing years. Given how much of the NRS community seems to abandon a game once DLC stops, it could keep more people playing longer.

@@98izzark69 Dedicated players stick with it, sure. But did you not see countless people bitching about MK11's Kombat Pack characters being 2 months apart? So many people have really short attention spans and declare a game "dead" as soon as support stops, or even before, even if there are still plenty playing online. MK sells really well but has a rapid drop-off, and an even bigger drop-off after DLC ends, retaining those players is the idea of long-term support. Dedicated players will play what they want no matter what, don't need to incentivise them to continue, they're doing fine.

I think there's a reason a game like Deception stands so far apart from Armageddon. Sure there are other factors largely regarding execution but I think the point still stands that it would stop enhancing a game after a certain amount of support is reached.

One of Sektor and Cyrax rebuilt using Black Dragon trash-tech, the other given a shiny new chassis courtesy the Special Forces. And not necessarily the obvious good-guy/bad-guy choices; Cyrax forced to work with the Black Dragon and Sektor getting his from a rogue element among the "good guys". It would be interesting to see them with some of their remaining distinct meat parts visible like was done with Frost in MK11.

Havik, Ashrah, Movado and Onaga. Just even one of those would be a dream to see in another MK game. I grew up on the 3D era games! Hopefully they do something with the 3D era characters no one knows about. I would be satisfied if they even remastered the 3D era games if the 3D era characters would not show up in new games.

I honestly really agree with this list. My hope for MK12 is that the focus is less on Earthrealm/Outworld and more on Orderrealm/Chaosrealm. A genius idea that can incorporate all 6 of the realms is to have it be a full on war. Have it start with Chaosrealm/Orderrealm having conflict, the Resistance tearing apart the government from the inside while Chaosrealm attempts from the outside, forcing them to call on the Special Forces, getting Earthrealm involved, which in turn brings Outworld into it, spiraling until both Edenia and the Netherealm get involved as well, allowing for the major characters like Kitana, Scorpion, Sub Zero, Kung Lao, Shang Tsung, and Goro appear, but also more forgotten about characters like Hotaru, Dairou, Darrius, Havik, Drahmin, Moloch and Nitara to be involved, all while keeping the roster small and having a large story to tell

I'd love to see Chameleon/Khameleon both return as a duo unit that can swap between the two mid fight utilizing copy moves as usual while also giving them some new specials of their own and maybe even a move that steals and disables a opponent's move and allows them to use it for a short time while hopefully expanding both of their backgrounds. Having Reiko be another blood magic user in the roster would be pretty cool and further separate him from his similarities with Shao Khan, maybe even a plot with Scarlet to build a army or empire with other blood magic users sounds nice. Would love to see Tanya, Frost, Tremor and Li Mei since Tanya (in some incarnations) is one of the more versatile edenians/female ninjas when it comes to moves and weapon choices and having her as a all rounder is nice plus her connections with mileena can be explored more, frost is a interesting character with potential that could be a staple cyborg or give her a new way to work with her powers, Tremor is a pretty neat character and I wanna see him more especially after what we got in mkx and he's the most unused male ninjas besides chameleon in terms of appearances, and Li Mei's kinda been the female equivalent of Lu Kang and she'd make a good hybrid that uses that and the female ninja template for some interesting moves

Re: C/Khameleon: an idea that just hit me is that NRS could go back to the one bit of AU lore that exists about one of them, that Reptile finds that he's not alone and that a female Zaterran exists. Considering how Reptile was also a hidden palette swap in MK 1, the chameleon duo could be a slightly older pair who were able to hide and survive with their skills. They could be mentors to Reptile, and help him live up to his potential and not be a jobber.

If you count Kameos then Sektor came back, if you want to force it Chameleon with a K is there also. Havik and Reiko are both in the base game and Hotaru appears in one of the endings. Great list!
