I think adding a nice walnut veneer around the toe kick will match nicely with the brown sofas.

Really nice end result after a lot of hard work. Good job. Perhaps you could try some used engine oil (or cooking oil) as a light film over all the inside of your mold/former (Shuttering release is used by concrete crews). This prevents 'concrete bite' and enables easier release without chipping. Another idea would be to use cement dye powder; mix a few separate lots from you whole bag, add different colour dye to each lot. Then drop one on the other in the mold (like marble cake) for an interesting finish.👍

If you have ever had a project like this with concrete again, use Formwork oil. This oil ensures a smooth end result and the formwork also dissolves much more easily. It is very easy to use, just spray the formwork with the oil and that's it. Compliments for the beautiful design.

Great video! Thanks for showing all three, it's really refreshing showing your early attempts and what went wrong. We also learn from your mistakes, and not all YTers do that.

Love watching your videos because you are very creative in your techniques. I wouldn't build a concrete table myself, but I certainly learnt some new skills from this. Cheers.

I really like the 3rd side table you could also put a nice round piece of glass on it to make it a bit wider

Nice work ! By screwing half round trim onto nylon straps you can easily create a re-usable fluted form. Just remember to mark the end to make it really easy to cut out of the tube. Cast concrete is really versatile and durable , i look forward to your next project.

Came out great in the end. Lots of clever design tricks. I was recently learning about aircrete, and I wonder if that would help cut down on the weight.

Very cool. I do all kinds of stuff with concrete. I use acorns and pine cones for texture. I hollow the guts out of glass light bulbs, drill out the center and put a chain in the middle and fill them with concrete. Once they dry I break the glass. They are great for the center weight for wind chimes. I use all manner of plastic bottles and jugs for forms for planters and vases. I use pool noodles for the void in the middle. After they dry you just dig the pool noodles out. So many options really. BB's for a bb gun make great texture too once the concrete stiffens a bit embed the bbs on the surface till it dries then take a wire brush and brush them out. Makes a cool dimpled texture. Anyway cool video. Canola oil in my opinion is the very best thing for coating forms with for nonstick.

Great result. In the makign process i think i would use a smaller diameter concrete tube for the inside. and the toe kick i'd probably make that as a separate piece then glue together after the fact. the scallop look looked great.

This might be asking for a lot but I would love to see you delve further into this, creating other forms, dying the concrete different pigments (peachy pink?) , creating a space for a drawer, maybe limewashing painting it? If you're interested I am too. I know it's a lot of work though! Lovely

I love it! Do you by chance have a link to the recycled cork you were using? I have some ideas for it I'd like to try out. The pool noodle idea was genius! Great space filler, and inexpensive. I may have to give this project a go myself. Thanks for this one.

To be honest, I like all 3. The final result is undoubtedly awesome. #1 has that brutalist architecture or modern minimalist feeling and #2 with all the chips has that ancient ruins kind of vibe.

I really dig the industrial yet ancient looking column design of your table! If you want more height and a bigger table, you can still add a table top and use the concrete as base for the table. Maybe something out of glass or a nice piece of wood as table top?

A lot of people are involved in making countertops and various types of furniture. I suspect that the concrete they use is a higher strength than bagged concrete from the home stores. Also the concrete at the home stores will take about 7 days to get just over half of its maximum strength, and 28 days to get to maybe 80-90% of its maximum strength. In 1 or 2 days it doesn't develop much strength. In construction the formwork is always sprayed with an oil to get it to release from concrete. I don't know how the countertop people do it and I wonder if an oil would possibly discolor the concrete. Basically there is a lot of technology that goes into concrete, more than just cement plus sand plus gravel.

Finally good to see a new video from you! I miss your builds for sure, this concrete, fluted table is fun yet elegant. Btw cork can be wood glued in most cases so I bet if you glued your cork panels to a 1/4” or 1/8” backer it’d work much better. Hope to see plenty more builds 👎🏼

Whenever I have an idea for a table like this, I always fabricate something simple in cardboard. Usually it's just a simple box to get the height and simple dimensions right. And even when I thought I got the height dialed in, I've used shims of cardboard to bring the height up bit by bit until it feels right.
