FINALLY after watching many videos I'm glad someone says your trap won't be 100% solid in frozen ground and can still catch coyotes thanks for an honest video about winter trapping

Excellent video, well done. I use waxed dirt for the trap bed and then peat moss on top. The freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw cycle of today's wintertime makes any trapping but cable restraints a constant maintenance headache.

Good things as always brother! I like to drag a sled in sets like these to carry items and cover tracks. Hay sets shine in snow too, have caught many fox, bobcat and yotes in them! Keep up the great work

Long time subscriber : Have a question concerning freeze and thaw. I'm currently using wax dirt for the first time this year. I'm going solar and letting the fur pay for the supplies. I have been using salt for freezing in the trap bed and the springs. I do keep check of each trap to make sure that my equipment is in top notch after I use salt. Do I need to continue to use salt for freeze proofing or does the wax dirt eliminate the need to ? I am self taught , I use your channel for guidance. Thanks so much for the information you have provided through the years. I'm in Blue Ridge Mountains NC.

Well done, the only thing I would do different, is to use a chunk of charred wood for my backing instead of snow, which when it melts leaves the set without backing, and at this time of year they like to pee on anything that sticks out.
@CoonCreekOutdoors
@CoonCreekOutdoors 8 жыл бұрын
+John Holmes yeah after the snow melts a solid backing can be added. while I have snow I prefer the visual of the urine

Nice job Stu and I think I'm going to make some waxed dirt for next fall. What type of dirt do you find is better. Later buddy and all the best.
@CoonCreekOutdoors
@CoonCreekOutdoors 8 жыл бұрын
+NSTRAPPERHUNTER the loamier the soil the more wax it takes because of absorption. sand will not absorb much wax at all, but it looks really out of place in the clay type soil I trap in. I personally use about 80% clay 20% sand and it seems to work well for me.
