One of the coolest parts about reviewing gadgets is that you get to play with most, if not all of them,.. And after that review period is done, you get to pick which one you want to keep using as your daily driver. I think it's no secret that I like using smartwatches. Some for their elegance, and others for how great they assist me in fitness. But the watch I always end up drifting back to is the Apple Watch Series 2.
Like with every first generation Apple product, I hated the first Apple Watch. I don't think I got my money's worth as the watch aged, and even today as my son uses it, it continues to prove that it was definitely a terrible investment.

I love my watch. As a camp counselor who goes swimming twice a day it’s amazing to leave my phone in a locker near the pool and while I’m swimming I can get and respond to messages. I’ve even answered phone calls in the pool

To be honest I bought this Watch as soon as it said it could count my laps in the swimming pool. It's brilliant for swimming. WatchOS4 should be bringing some great improvements.

I believe the "peeling" you've experienced with the aluminum is pitting. It most likely occurred from contact with sweat.

Had my series 1 Apple Watch since 3mths after release and still use it nearly every day. My biggest gripes with it are: lack of watch faces, slow loading 3rd party apps and the fact that Apple keeps ruining the operation of the OS but adding in new gestures that dont work well for day to day use. From a fitness perspective they are excellent and the hardware is hard wearing, but a smart watch still remains a non essential gadget device and more a compliment to your phone.

All of the hardware problems you’re having is unique to the sport version with ion x glass. Even the 1st gen Stainless steel had a ceramic back as well as a sapphire display (which will only scratch against diamonds)

My one complaint about all Smart Watches is they only track Cardio out of the box. There is no attention towards weight lifting. Which actually happens to be more beneficial for the human body than cardio alone.

To save the watch from ugly marks, I got one with sapphire glass, ceramic back and stainless steel. The steel is easy to polish if it gets scratchy and the display just doesn't scratch.

I have the aluminium model, after 2 years i have one tiny mark on the scroll wheel and a few tiny marks on the underside ceramic base. I would say the device is very hard wearing considering this is the weakest model. I also reguarly rinse my watch under water and it still works perfect (Apple Watch Series 1)

All I want in a sport watch / smart watch with health apps is an accurate heart rate monitor and smart sleep alarm. Are there any that have this combination? Even the Fitbit HR doesn't have a smart alarm function, and the Apple Watch doesn't track sleep. Bah!

My Samsung Gear S is still in perfect condition 3 yrs later.. aside from a little scratch on the screen that's only noticeable at certain angles. The apps load immediately, Tizen is great on the Gear.

They are more accurate than a Fitbit but not as accurate as a chest strap. One of the most accurate smartwatches out for fitness

A chest strap will always be best, but this watch is barely 20 calories above or bellow. I consider it to be better than a FitBit. ^JR

Thank you guys! That helps a lot. Now I’m totally looking forward to the next series. I’m always adjusting my Fitbit during workouts to get the right heart rate. I be feeling winded and it’s telling I’m at 112bpm. Yeah I know right. Some days it will be ok but just ok. Hence I’m considering a replacement.

Its great quality and MUCH better battery life. Only thing is that if you have a iphone it will never connect and if it does it stops after a bit. But i just use it for time and fitness apps that are already built in.

I still got my first gen 🍎 ⌚️ and yes it still works,, I live and work on a cruise ship in Hawaii and I wear it as I work every day seven days a week for eight months straight I've banged it so many times against metal on the shit and it still working I've even swim with it scuba dive 10m with it and snorkel with it all the time and it still working it suits me well counts my steps give me my notification especially when my boss told me not to use my phone and I Play my country music from my 🍎 ⌚️ To my 🔊 as I work especially on Saturdays load day 16hr work day so yes I would consider this the toughest watch I've ever had
