POCO: A PL Adapter with Drop-in Filters!

I love that there is a L-mount option for this. Been eyeing drop in filters since Canon came up with the EF-RF adapter. Most of my glass is EF mount though, so I will probably wait for them to bring in an EF-L adapter with this functionality :)

I'm a big fan of behind the lens style filters. they don't seem to soften the image too much and don't preset weird light artifacts as much as front filter

Thanks Tito, great to see a review of this system, I've been eyeing it for a while. Love the mount swap flexibility, just not sure whether the extra filters are worth getting in my case as 90% of the time I'd need to use it with ND. I doubt we'll ever see an adapter with dual filter slots due to flange distance limitations hey?

sucks that there is no x mount option - maybe they will address it. wish they would have a smaller mount leg / would develop custom legs that could be screwed to the major cage options (e.g. Tilta). not necessarily true that the adapter absolutely has to be used with a clear filter - it just needs refocusing upon switching, which is anyways ok to do, as the plastic frame of the filter anyways "breaks" the shot. in that sense, having a filter option that is just a cap with no glass would be great. 1/4 mist filters are too much, I want an 1/8 option. those streak filters are a joke. they could absolutely redesign the ND filter insert as to mechanically offset the 0.8 control knob and therefore give a bit more space to the photography-style cages, even if it means smaller control knob / bigger throw. as others have pointed out, color shift is noticeable, so would be interesting if they would allow those insert/trays to take some standard size filter glass, as to put the glass of our choice in there (nano sized filters, I guess - i.e. thickness). I would also put a small thread in the middle of the lock button and offer a small offset extender for that button, which would allow it to be pushed from somewhere close to the purple PL lock ring / further away from the camera. would want the inserts to be really well insulating against light leaks, possibly with replaceable rubber/foam gaskets or similar

I think all suggestions are really good. The only thing I can argue is that it needs the clear filter. Refocusing did not give me a sharp image at all. For anamorphics, as soon as flange distance is off, there's no salvation. Color shift is noticeable, yet, I don't think I've had any ND set with such range that didn't introduce color shift of some sort.

if flange distance is the problem flange distance should be addressed by shimming, no? (but I also realise I might be wrong, in which case it would be great if there could be a way - any way - to not clear glass by default. or if needed, then to allow clear glass from any manufacturer of choice) as for the color shift - I know what you mean and agree, but if the system could be opened up for adapting the glass from other manufacturers, then I think it can alleviate such concerns. it is true that it can be a bit more difficult for vario-nd

@@BogdanSorlea The issue is that glass behind the lens changes the flange distance needed due to diffraction and it is decently significant (shimming would probably not be achievable) with a difference I suspect pushing near half a millimetre. This is why there will always be a clear filter in the rear filtration mounts on some of the super-telephoto photography lenses for sports and wildlife.

@AnamorphicOnABudget Great video! I just want to mention that there are magnetic filters out there that are easier to swap which could be used as another solution for quick lens swaps w/ filters. I also wanted to say that (if I recall) you never actually reviewed the 75mm Lomo Squarefront, at the time you reviewed the 35 and 50, the 75 was still getting rehoused (or maybe I'm not remembering correctly).

Good point, and I'm working on reviewing some of those magnetic options too. As for the 75mm review, there isn't much difference from the others. It's a LOMO. :P

Not specific tests for that, but I found no big shift that couldn't be corrected with two clicks in post-production.

Try contact Kondor Blue. They have made a new cage for the Canon R5C (their Cine cage), that specifically clears the filter, so you can change it, while the Canon / Meike / Breakthrough RF to EF filter adapter is fitted. Having said that, it would have been nice, if the Poco filter would have used the same form factor as the Canon / Meike and Breakthrough filters. Those are actually interchangable. And yes, you may find, that Breakthroughs selection of filters is a bit limited, but what you may not have realised, is that Kolari ALSO makes filters that fit the Canon / Meike / Breakthrough adapters and even Meike has a nice little and very cost effective selection. Meike even has made an EF to E adapter using those same filters. Bad news for you: No L-mount adapter, either.

I was just thinking about being on a budget tbh. i really like that swirl filter from Kolari, and would love to use it in a pl drop in system. btw, i really appreciate your knowledge sharing here. I hadn't known previously how the other manufacturers all shared sizing.

Dislike the fact you need extra filter to get a focused image. It changes the flange distance needing extra optimal elements which is generally not good.
