European promotional tour by Poco. Here on the Dutch Countdown TV show in 1989. Rusty Young, Jim Messina, Randy Meisner, George Grantham and a local keyboard player. Recorded on VHS, and transferred and converted to enjoy for all the Poco fans around the world. O...did I tell you I was in the studio when this was recorded? Yip, lucky me :-)
People complaining it's lip syncing: that was the formula of this show. Moody Blues were there too. Also lip sync. Poco definitely had the best performance and the best reaction from the public. And one thing I know for sure, Rusty, George, Jim and Randy loved doing this show and enjoyed being on stage, as you can tell. But they also had a great time back stage together with members of the Moody Blues. They actually played live in the dressing room, but hey...no iPhones yet. So, while there are plenty of videos of Poco performing Call It Love live, there are not too many videos Poco lip syncing the song. In other words: this is a rare video. Collectors item. Enjoy!

I always wondered why Ronstadt did a duet with Henley, the second best voice in the Eagles, and never chose to do one with Randy, one of the finest harmonizing vocalists in Rock music. I always wondered if maybe she had a hard time accepting the possibility that Randy had no interest in her romantically, at a time, back when nearly every other guy on the planet did. But if it was something like that, the secret has been well-kept through the decades.

@@southvaron757 that's a good point. However I can see how maybe their voices might not have blended as good as Linda and Don. Randy's voice was in that angelic register similar to Ronstadt's but Henley's was a little rougher and had more growl so they probably blended better. But yeah, would have loved to have heard a Randy and Linda duet.

Rusty was essentially the lead vocalist in Poco on many of their album tracks although a lot of fans remember him as the pedal steel guitar guru/master. He had a high vocal range, like Randy Meisner. Messina handled more mid-range and lower octave vocals like You Better Think Twice, Angry Eyes, etc.

I love Randy just as much as any singer out there, and more than most, but I must say something. Tim B. Schmidt always got a bad rap, mostly because of how the Eagles treated Randy. I have researched all of Tim's work, and he has always treated Randy with the utmost respect. Even to this day, when they do "Take It To The Limit", which Tim refused to sing out of respect for Randy, he stays back from the Mic while Vince Gill sings Randy's parts. And no one should ever forget the gracious comments he made about Randy at HOF Induction. Too bad he and Randy were both bass players. I would have loved to have seen them together in a lineup somewhere. Frey was very fortunate, that Randy never wanted to be a center of attention with the Eagles.

This is one of the catchiest songs ever written and it would be a shame if someone came across this video, easily deduced that they weren't actually playing the song just like I have and then think Poco is basically the same as The Monkees.
