I do think its important for everyone to know that although it’s not impossible to use pod filters on CV carburetors, it is pretty difficult to tune the engine and have it run at peak performance. I’d say if you have a Honda or maybe even a Suzuki with CV carbs, you’d be better off with the stock air box. Just my 2 cents

CV carbs are not hard to tune with pods. Stock exhaust, go up one main jet size and add a #2 washer under all needles. After market mufflers, go up 2 sizes on the main and 3, #2 washers under all needles. Stock air box was actually unusable after mufflers and jetting, I had to switch to pods it was not getting enough air.

Dan do you have to rejet the carbs for pods in Australia. The motorcycle mechanic told me you don't have to due to the altitude. Being low most forums are from bikes overseas at higher altitude hence they need rejeting ?

Most important thing with airpods asides from points you make ie quality, is the material by design blocks the 2 air jets on the back of most all carberators the pod must be fitted to carb and marked with marker and a holes or slots must be cut through the boot or they will never work peroid !

If you remove the stock air horn and use a pod filter, it completely changes the flow of air into the carb. Someone needs to build pods with an air horn built inside for a smooth flow into the carb

My 95 ninja zx-11 has had the air box deleted and ordered the 20$ 4 pack set of filters from eBay used factory boots off the air box and stretch taped the filters to the boot with a tight rubber fit and then used rtv on the edges and mating surfaces. Made a shroud/ wind inlet around the filters for top end air flow due to the low vacuum effect. Oh and stock jets. Will still rock and roll all the way to 176

I heard mix reviews on the pods that the pistons work harder and can cause wear, who knows though right? Not here to criticize I’m just weighing my options, I’ll probably just go with an oem filter in the airbox because these are a little more expensive but they definitely look cooler, thanks for the video!

This is a good one Dan! DNA are good, no doubt. I've had a couple of bikes with pods, and my experience is that for my bikes, those pods are too short. Strong wind from the side did interfere with performance. Strong sidewind and the bike began to cough. The last one, the Triumph Legend with Speed triple cams, couldn't reach over 110km/h. So I cut three beercans into shape and mounted them over the pods and voila! 180km/h! With the same jets and all. After some more fidling it was perfect. Air coming in to the carbs have a sort of coneshaped jetstream and that stream must not be interfered. My next project will have some sort of pipe between the engine and filters. Or new beercans! Hmm...where can I find them? ;-)

One thing I didn't hear you mention in the difference between cheap and expensive is an inner lip. Most cheapies have a huge inner lip that blocks the atmospheric ports of most carbs causing bad performance, if it even runs. Most more expensive ones I've run don't have the inner lip.

I saw a video with DNA and K&N to see who had the better flow and DNA won but the difference is never going to be noticed be anything but a machine that measures this kind of thing so to say they are better is not fair as they both are great Filters, I prefer DNA for all the reasons I listed in this video, we are all different and I will never try to convince someone to buy the brand I like but I do like to explain the difference , Hope that answers your question mate :)

@@CafeRacerGarage yeah dude. The videography was brilliant. The sponsor piece was a bit OTT if I am being honest.

@@CafeRacerGarage I really do appreciate it, and I'll have to look into DNA for my build once I get the engine back together

If I ever use a "cheaper" air filter (some customers ( I'm a hobby builder, but I sell a lot) don't have a clue about anything motorcycle, whatsoever), i glue the rubber in, that stops it from coming out, and it creates a really good airtight seal. It's nice to hear someone explain that just any oil will not do, far to many people use just what they have to hand, and they don't understand why their bike runs shite.
