I did get it started, just haven't made a video of it yet, been bad weather. Make sure you have spark and compression too, in order for it to run. I am also working on a 1979 suzuki gs 850 I need to finish before I spend too much time on this one, but this one is going to be sweet, with the old school neon kawasaki green paint job, thats going to look similar to the 2018 Kawasaki Z900rs cafe.

I’m thinking about building a dual box that also links to the casing vacuum like the original box

That would be cool, and should work well. Mikuni racing flat slide carbs work well on these bikes too, but are pricey...

I can't wait to get working hard on this bike, I'm try to get a shop to work out of, it's not working out in the basement. By the way, I have always found that twin cylinders are the hardest to get running well, and it is usually due to either the carbs out of sync or one of the cylinders has lower compression than the other, at that point you can only get it running best you can, if the cylinders aren't equal in good compression it will never run optimal.

I can’t get mine running either 😔 I upped the jets and just made no difference

Hey my bike is idling super high, basically what you explained... did you have a recommendation on a more restrictive air filter? Brand? Thank you!!
@thedragon22995 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you already know, but that condition usually is contributed to an air or vacuum leak. So first check for that, spray carb cleaner or wd 40 around carbs and boots to see if the engine revs or tries to stall. Also double check to make sure your idle adjustment on the carburetor that controls the throttle linkage is adjusted down first. Make sure carbs are clean, adjusted and working properly. If all that is complete and correct, you may also have to try some different jetting. So to get to your actual question, I'm not sure about different filters, but what you can do is try filter wraps, it's like a thick foam wrap that adds more restriction. You can search it to see what I mean, then get your own foam from a supply or craft store, and cover your existing pods. They also have socks and pre-filters, but they are usually very thin and non-restrictive. I have seen people use actual socks off their feet too...lol. To be honest it sounds like the carbs may be off alittle too. Double check them and make sure your thottle cable isn't stretched and pulling on the carbs, I have seen it all, you don't want to beat your brains out trying to tune it when it ends up just being a tight throttle cable...good luck. Let me know how it goes.

@@thedragon2299 oh and to add one more thing to the description of issue. It seems to idle much higher as the engine heats up, perhaps that has more to do with a vacuum leak than throttle cable adjustment. Thank you :)

Any luck with the tuning??

I have not been able to work on it in weeks, due to some family things. I did buy a new ignition coil and wires for it though.

Hope alls well, I’m done trying now 😔 just wont run above 1/3 throttle

@@ronanteague293 Oh I hate to hear that. Did you ever check the compression, just to make sure all is well? Twin cylinder bikes are extremely fussy and complicated to tune sometimes. Most importantly everything has to be just right for them to run perfect. Before you worry about the carbs, make sure your compression is up to spec and that the cylinders don't vary in psi more than 5lbs, double check you have good, or even better new spark plugs, and visual inspect the spark to make sure it's good. And check to make sure the fuel is good and fresh. Also make sure the carbs are getting a good steady flow of fuel to them. At that point if all that is good and right, simply set your carbs to desired factory settings and if they are clean and operating correctly, she should run fine. Good luck, don't give up until you truly put foward your best effort, because the reward is great if you do!

She just had a engine rebuild and starts and idles to perfection, I’ve fixed all fuel lines, rejetted up carbs, tested intake boots, set float heights, cleaned the tank and petcock out, fresh petrol. I’ve the needle at the bottom clip. 50 pilot 140 main. Baffled the pipes. She just has no power and cuts or bogs out after 1/3 throttle

@@ronanteague293 check the plugs again to see if its leaning out or going rich. Sounds like the slides or one of them is sticking maybe...
