Pod Hd Pro 4 cable method, Peavey Ultra Plus

Running a peavey ultra plus POD HD PRO using 4 cable method. using pod as a effects processor, NO amp modeling...just amps tone and effects from pod.

no i sold both 5150ii's i got an amazing deal on this ultra plus. I actually LOVE this head. i've owned a FEW of them. i LOVE the 5150ii's too BUT they are one dimensional if you know what i mean, the ultra is SOOO versatile ....

yes was only using the pod for Effects. when running the 4 cable method you have to manually add in the " effects loop" anything after the effects loop on the pod will be run through the amp as an effect. i didn't notice any tone suck honestly and i'm pretty picky about it. i wasn't a HUGE fan of the tube screamer from the pod into my head. it sounded a little digital but everything else was PERFECT ( delay's , reverbs...ect.) no the head isn't midi all the foot switch did is command the pod.

i play sorta loud but nothing crazy haha...i use a designated mic for the guitar tone audio, i don't do any "mixing" i just do levels up and down in imovie. the mic i use is a Zoom cond. mic its battery operated and it sounds great.

Still sounds a little fizzy, digitally. I have the pod x3 and use it in a different way to keep the tone suck down to a minimal. I dont need the beggining half of the x3 (amp modeling, stomp, noise gate, wah etc) so my fxs send from my amp goes to the fx return to the x3 then out of the x3 to return of amp. I got the fx loop in the x3 put on post so the signal chain goes like this guitar>yjm308>isp decimator>crybaby wah>mxr micro amp>preamp of my amp>fx send to x3 loop>x3 chorus>x3 delay>x3 reverb>out to power section of amp. I notice running the 4 cable method (going through the whole x3 section) i was getting bad tone suck, especially when the gate, stomp, compression was on. This way you bypass alot of the units tone suck and it sounds good. 2 cable method.

Dude i'm in love with this amp! i have no effects running thru it. might get a tube screamer though. the ultra channel is amazing. great thrash metal type sound. the cleans are really nice and warm to!

it took me 2 years to save up for a boss me 70 and when i was almost reaching it the boss gt 100 came out and i save up for another year and i finnaly got it and its damn worth it!!! ^___^ so be patient!

So your just using the pod pro for effects and the amp providing the Dirt.How does the line 6 pedal work with the head? is the head midi and your setting up presets ? how is the wah in the hd? ive been using the gsp1101 with a diezel just thinking about setting up pod hd like this n rolling with it... any tone suck?

Hey, i've got an Ultra Plus 120 as well, all i'm running through it is a Tube screamer and a Wah, but the amp has a terrible hum when using the ultra channel... any good pedal recommendations to get rid of that?

did you notice a lack of bass response runnin the pod through the head? i tried setting mine up similar if not the same as this but it sucked entirely being there was no bass response. i just want to figure out how to get this thing sounding good live through my rig.

i tried the 4 cable method out on my jcm2000 and all i got was whatever my pod was dishing out. None of the knobs on the jcm did anything. What inputs/outputs are you using on the pod. There are a couple!

yes just turn off the cab modeling and set to combo amp mode. may have to play with the presets a bit. i get my crate 120 combo to sound like a mesa dual recto all the time :)

Does it work the same way with Pod Pro rack with the 4 cable method? I just got it but and I'm running it like that but I'm having a grounding issue on it. I'm trying to use it for just effects because the natural tone of a 6505+ is killer.

I've tried the POD HD 500X with my valveking head, and the sound is a lot thinner than connecting directly to the amp. I've tried my ISP decimator G-String as well and it sound same as connecting directly, so theres nothing wrong with the cables or the amp. FX loop is engaged, mix is 100%. It sounds as loud as before just a lot thinner and more high end :S Have you noticed something similar?

Kristóf Kolos Nagy I've noticed the same thing with my Peavey 6505 when something is connected to the effects loop the tone gets thinner and more brittle. I think it has something to do with the preamp tube for the tube buffered effects loop being old. Definitely look into trying a thicker sounding preamp tube in the designated spot

i love the 5150 iii and the ultra and the 5150ii . any of those will kick serious butt. if using the hd pro in the effects loop i'd only use it for effects like reverb and delay. i wouldn't use any stomp pedals... it sounded to digital through the amp.

Dude this tone is killer! I wanna use the 4 cable method 2 but my Line6 HD300 doesn't have a FX Loop... If I bought an cheap noise gate pedal with an FX Loop build in I can use the 4 cable method but how do I link the pod to the FX Loop/Noise gate?

It looks like you've got a Line 6 FBV shortboard - but everywhere I read on Line 6's website it isn't compatible with the HD Pro. You've had no issues I'm assuming?
