It really just shows that things don't have consequences anymore, but instead have rewards for pretty much any bad behavior. I am 100% not for how WSJ showed Felix in the video,however they only even brought it up because alt-right/neo-nazi people were using Felix as someone who is with their cause. Felix could have avoided this whole situation don't post things that can be used against you. I get that he is not hateful or anything but you literally don't put up stuff like that, and just claim it is a mistake/joke or how ever you want to spin it because all it does is let other people follow suit. It makes the jokes you say also come off as a normal thing. If his joke was saying the N-word and people are only flocking to support him because it was a joke and he is really a nice person guess what more people are going to start saying and get way with. Maybe if Felix you know started with this type of stuff from the beginning it wouldn't have been much of an issue, but he started with playing video games. If uno started putting the same crazy shit that cards against humanity put you bet their would be an out cry too.

I was sort of disappointed that you guys sided so strongly with PDP. I understand that you had a similar experience with GMA a while back which colored how you feel about traditional media. While I get the whole traditional media vs KZbinrs, PDP has so much fame and influence that he needs to reflect with more maturity on the messages he's sending out in his vids. I feel badly that he was so skewered this week. I don't think he's a bad guy.

They are all hypocrites, of course they can't apply inhuman standards on themselves. One of the three main journalists on WSJ, writing the hitpiece, has a South Park-character as his avatar on Twitter. These "journalists" are desperate, they have literally nothing to lose but Felix has everything.

Family Guy, South Park, American Dad, those are just a few shows that make jokes like this every single week, and no one minds. Pewdiepie makes a few jokes in retaliation towards the media for taking his jokes 100% out of context, and people lose their shit. His jokes were to "a", see how far people would go, and "b", to mock the media. WSJ's job is to report the news, not to fabricate articles, clips, and pictures, to convince people someone is a nazi when they absolutely are not. We should be focused on the real nazis that are currently trying to let their presence be known, not a KZbinr making a joke in response to how the media wrongly portrays him.
@miyu19607 жыл бұрын
amberk1123 uh those shows get in trouble as well. They either get episodes banned, loose sponsors, hell family guy and South Park have been cancelled before. So that argument that no one minds, is bs. And I actually love those shows, mostly American dad and South Park, but please find another argument because those shows have in fact faced consequences because of its humor or social commentary.
@BabblePuff7 жыл бұрын
Taylor jay I absolutely adore those shows too, I've just never witnessed them be hated or attacked to the degree Pewdiepie is currently. My point wasn't meant to bash those shows, I was just wondering why WSJ hasn't gone after them, if this humor makes you a nazi-sympathizer. Again, I could be completely wrong, as I've never personally seen those shows attacked to this degree.
@miyu19607 жыл бұрын
amberk1123 I'm guessing you're not that old then. I'm 22 and i remember being a kid and seeing family guy and South Park in the news for it's crude humor and commentary. I'm pretty sure South Park has been cancelled twice and I think family guy three times, I could be wrong about how many but they have been at least once, that I'm certain of. I'm not saying what the media is doing is right but these shows have faced consequences.
@BabblePuff7 жыл бұрын
Taylor jay I am 30, but do not see how that is relevant. I said I "personally" have never witnessed them being attacked to this degree, and fully admitted that I could indeed be wrong on that. If that's the case, then it was a poor comparison on my part. I know that they do receive hate and face consequences for their writing, however, to me at least, it always blows over quite quickly. Absolutely not trying to argue, as you've made great points, I just haven't witnessed it personally.
@miyu19607 жыл бұрын
amberk1123 only mentioned your age because it would sort of explain how you wouldn't know but then again I have to remember not every single person watches the same thing at the same time. Only reason you're not seeing them being shamed today is because all of that was done years ago, when there was no twitter or Facebook and people have now learned that it's just how those shows work. Thats their version of comedy and commentary, so they get left alone cause they've faced all the hate already.

It's MY JOB to teach her digital literacy and explain dark humor and satire and trolls, etc. People trying to "save" the 13-18 audience by screaming "Wat aboot the childrennnnnn??!" are ridiculous. BTW Jenna your videos have swears and adult references but again, parents teaching digital literacy helps kids navigate your world safely. I'm Jewish, I'm neutral on him in general, and I appreciate that he apologized. If Felix hadn't apologized I'd have been very upset. A joke is a joke, yes- but someone who has influence over others CAN normalize hatred; especially a younger more impressionable crowd. The media has gone way too far with this, and they'll do anything for a click-baity article. This slandering is awful, and this black/white way of thinking continues to be perpetuated, and everyone continues to get more and more enraged. This cycle is exhausting.

I don't think everyone who's upset about what this person did is just mad that he has money. I don't know him or follow his content but from what I understand he's done similar things to this in the past which is honestly just ridiculous and stupid on his part especially considering the political climate around the world right now. If he thinks it's funny that's fine he has every right to and he has every right to post that content but at the same time, people have a right to be mad. Him getting dropped by Maker and losing money is all on him. Just because he has the right to do stupid shit doesn't mean he doesn't have to face consequences.
@chloeb57647 жыл бұрын
As a jew, I wasn't offended at all. I can see the difference between satire and serious anti-semitism and would rather use my time being offended by something that is actual, legitimate hate speech instead of a joke (that was admittedly in poor taste) that has been twisted out of both proportion and context by the media. Just my opinion 😊
@chloeb57647 жыл бұрын
Thegabster82 Actually, I'm British. My great grandfather died in the holocaust, as did his parents and his siblings whilst my great grandmother fled with her family as she was pregnant with my grandma. The fact of the matter is that what Felix did was a joke, it may have been in bad taste but most jokes are. There are people out there who truly do want all Jews to die and as such I don't want to sit there being annoyed at an idiotic joke when there are much more significant things like that to be annoyed about. An example of this is the Jewish Cemetery that was vandalised and from what I can see, more people were annoyed at Felix for what he did than the vandalism...
@chloeb57647 жыл бұрын
Thegabster82 Well a joke is what it was, many of the jokes nowadays are either in bad taste or dark. Maybe if he goes and vandalises a cemetery or joins the Racial Volunteer Force (An extremely violent Neo-Nazi party present in Britain) then I'll get annoyed but I understand & respect your view on the matter as we're all entitled to our own opinions ☺️
@ruth49527 жыл бұрын
It was a pretty crap joke... And I think it was blown way out of proportion! However, in a weird way I'm glad that it was because I don't think he's going to make as many Nazi jokes anymore. I actually really hated when he made the jokes because it always made me think about the Holocaust.
@wolftownesque7 жыл бұрын
Remember when JK Rowling was gonna write about American wizards and how ingrained it was in Native American people's culture?? Um, the Native and Indigenous people have experienced genocide long before Jewish people ever did. You know archaeologist still find their bones all over the country. She seemed to conveniently forget that it was the people from her country who actually committed those heinous crimes. I understand the offense for the Jewish community, I do I remember being very surprised that he would think that was funny. But my brother did. Some people find stupid crap funny. We can't always walk on eggshells when it comes to the Jewish community and a past hurt. If that was true, every one would be for #blacklivesmatter.
@ruth49527 жыл бұрын
+Maple Tree If you say that people who are not affected personally by the joke shouldn't be able to say that it was okay, then those unaffected people should not be able to condemn the joke either. While I do think the joke is wrong, I believe that most people can understand the seriousness and horror of the holocaust enough to make an informed decision about the joke even if they were not personally affected.

Calling Felix a fucking terrorist is absolutely disgusting and they're arbitrarily making money of a hate article to someone they dont even watch. Like this has nothing to do with his jokes or anything. At this point it's the media trying to control the younger generations point of view, in order to gain views on THEIR posts.

I know! This all happened so quckly
@JG-gg7fb7 жыл бұрын
He does not talk about politics(except to make fun of it), but the viewpoints of how he looks at life in a general sense are liberal. He is an Atheist. He cares about people a lot (he has raised so much money for charity, especially to "charity: water"). He does not discriminate against anybody and seems to believe in higher personal freedom and individuality. The more you see Pewd's real self on his channel (which is pretty rare since his job on there is to entertain and his real self comes out when he's being serious), you just get a real sense that he leans more to the left in his views. Also, he has talked about disliking Trump many times, and you really can't be "Alt-Right" and dislike Trump from what I've seen online.
@JG-gg7fb7 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that Felix lives in Brighton, the Gay Capital of Britain (as he called in one video). He was talking about getting kicked out of his apartment that they used for an office in a video earlier in 2016 and how the landlord used a slur calling him a fa**ot (if I recall) and Felix got pretty angry about him using that, not because he somebody called him gay but because he does not condone using slurs against gay people. That video in itself shows his liberal side.
@HelloAmz7 жыл бұрын
He's swedish and they are in general pretty liberal. He has said that we was in support for the british remain rather than brexit, and he is friends with h3h3 who are jewish. This whole thing makes no sense, he even said himself he expected this more from The Sun (right wing uk newspaper)

I feel like he's too scared to disagree with his fans who the majority are tumblr kids who need 'safe spaces'. It's a relief how open you guys should your support for him, and I love that you guys believe in 'free speech' basically and that if someone is offended by something they have that right, but jokes are jokes. I'm graduating this May with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism, and the manipulation of the "evidence" the Wall Street Journal has compiled is honestly hilarious. If I did something like this and turned it into one of my professors, I would get a failing grade on that assignment. The media is doing what they do best, and honestly, what is expected of them. The end goal is to make money, and The Wall Street Journal/Buzzfeed/whomever, has actually done an excellent job tapping into a large demographic who will now look at that article/video, and will continue to look at future content they publish about Felix. He has 50 million + subscribers, just imagine how many clicks they'll get. This isn't even them thinking he's actually anti-Semitic, at this point it's 95% for the money, and 5% for the LOL's. That's my 2 cents, sorry for ranting.

Jenna just opened my eyes to something i hadnt even thought about before. i am now really realizing how important it is that a youtuber like felix is on top. the whole lilly, youtube, felix thing makes so much sense and I completely agree with Jennas thoughts on how its a bigger issue and a "conspiracy" in some way. besides the whole ridiculously insane wsj bullshit, what just popped into my mind first thing was last years youtube rewind. lilly had the biggest moment out of everyone in that video, if I didnt know better i would have thought she was the biggest youtuber. I love lilly, no hate at all, she seems like a lovely, very inspirational person. and i know its just a silly rewind video, but where was felixs big moment? hes the biggest youtuber on the plattform, he has done so many amazing things for charity, where is his big moment? phil defranco isnt in the damn videos either. because hes outspoken, reports real news and doesnt shy away from controvercy. youtube obviously doesnt like that very much. now with the whole demonetization thing with news channels too thats a whole other thing that blows my mind. jenna is right. it does seem like they want lilly on top instead of felix. last year she had the biggest fucking billboards and posters on buildings, and i know other youtubers have those youtube posters as well. but dude lillys where gigantic. it does seem like felix is not getting the support and attention he deserves from youtube. lilly is pretty pc, talks to politicians, promotes positivity always, doesnt voice her opinion nearly as much as felix does on controversial topics, doesnt make jokes that could be offensive. shes the perfect youtuber to be on top, shes sort of predictable and not outspoken, which is something felix is absolutely not and i see why that would be scary to youtube and the media. its so stupid though, because as they said in the video, they dont get to chose. poeple like felix, not just because hes deep down a very nice and humble guy, but also because hes NOT pc. he does not give a damn, he doesnt need the media and he probably doesnt even need to earn money anymore. and its very obvious to me now that youtube might have been promoting lilly so much for these reasons. Its amazing to see how much support felix is getting honestly. Jenna really has a point here and im so glad that felix is the biggest on the plattform more than ever now. its important that somebody like him is on top, not someone that will do what youtube tells them to do and that cencors themself. its become so much more important and clear to me all of a sudden. I really get it now lol. I also agree with what they said about how felix could have just apologized and thats it but instead he stood by his point and said 'they are wrong. they feel threatened by me, theyre trying to ruin my career and its not right'. he could have gotten a completely different response for that. people could have said hes reaching for something, pretending like hes so damn important and great. but no, everyone supports him more than ever. makes me very very happy. youtube on the other hand makes me sad a little.that they wouldnt have his back. its sad. I agree with jenna. wow so many thoughts. very very good insightful podcast on this topic. what a long ass comment that no ones gonna read. idc though i just wanted to get that off my chest n idk where else to do that lol

I agree with you that it was a respectable thing for her to state her rationale for not meeting politicians, but I don't think it's fair for us to act like these youtubers didn't know that they were promoting an agenda. It's our job as consumers to keep that in mind and consider it when we view content. If a youtuber wants to use this platform to further an agenda that is their choice, they should be upfront about it and honest with their viewers. However, as viewers, we've got to be responsible for being critical and thoughtful too. As a platform, we've got to remember that KZbin owes us nothing. They are a private company that allows users to post media and profits from it, we've got to be the ones making our thoughts known with our viewership and usage. I do 100% support Jenna and Julien and Felix, and she is so sharp to point out her own bias and I wish other content creators would too.

Whilst I agree that Felix totally got tossed under the bus by MSM, I also disagree with the people in these comments saying, "oh he has a younger audience and a large audience to influence, he should think and watch more what he says."But it's not his job to play parent. It's a parent's job to tell their children what's right and what's wrong and how to handle what is exposed to their children. He shouldn't have to censor himself because some people felt entitled to being offended by a situation they don't fully understand. People see a minuscule scene to a big picture and immediately jump to conclusion. Now I do believe there's a difference nowadays in being offended and finding something to be of poor taste. Nowadays being offended means jumping to conclusions and being biased and not seeing all sides of the story. Whereas finding something in poor taste after seeing all sides of the story and understanding them. So many people "feel offended" today because of click bait articles. How many offensive shows and people out there who spread real hate never get called out for it? I believe this was purely a click bait media grab of attention. How many people of my age and younger even read the WSJ? What better way to become relevant and get those views and that attention even with disgruntled subscribers, than to make a shit show of a scene by taking clips and not explaining the full context. Now other media outlets are seeing this as their own opportunity to cash in on this "controversial" person. This is a huge media shit show right now. It's the topic of discussion for everyone to make money off of through their published articles. Why isn't anyone publishing articles on how anyone will do anything for money nowadays? Why aren't the offended calling out on the actor who played Jesus by saying he should have had the conscience to say no to saying "hitler did nothing wrong"? He knew what he was saying when he made the video. They want to believe he's spreading words that he hates these people and all his subscribers should hate them too. Which is absolutely not even close to what is happening. He's showing us what's wrong with the world and people. I believe Felix is a genuinely good person with good intentions who has a lot of hate and judgment to deal with from his notoriety and influence. I believe he sees his influence as a chance to show people what is messed up with the world today. I also believe he has a hard job of dealing with people misconstruing what he says and his intentions.

I could listen to you guys talk about this all day long. Jenna you are totally right about how teens don't look to the news because we fucking don't. We know that the information they post is half sided and biased and complete bullshit so we don't want to read it. We like honesty and being able to have our own opinions instead of being told what we should think. That's why I think that teens disrespect elders and rebel against authority because we don't want to be told what we should do. While there are some exceptions to this, I still think that. We are forced to obey what we are told and we despise it so we just say fuck that and move on. And thank you for acknowledging that teenagers are smart, because most of the time we are characterized by being stupid kids that only want to cause trouble, when most of the time we just want to live happily and peacefully among each other. Our parents and that generation didn't have the internet so they only know news outlets and think that everything they say or publish is right and true, while most of the time it's fucking bullshit. They want to control us like they did to our parents and we've fucking had it with them. We want the truth and honest answer, not to be told what's right and what we should do. We are being stripped of our creativity from these news outlets and by our parents and by being told this information. We just want to be able to express our opinions and thoughts without being ridiculed and told that's not correct rather instead to be explained why we shouldn't. We need to be encouraged and Jenna I respect you for doing this and also understanding and knowing we aren't stupid kids. I hope you get what I mean by all of this and it's not just all over the place but ya know my minds also all over the place. For all the people saying Felix should accept the consequences of what he's done and what he did was not ok, I'm getting the sense you only listened to their defense of Pewdiepie, but not Pewdiepie's response. He came right out and said that he completely understands why he was dropped by Disney and KZbin Red. He apologized for being hurtful. He admitted he was wrong. I am not saying what he did was ok or that you should forgive him, I'm just saying you're leaving out part of the story. In addition, this whole fake news thing happening is very dangerous. As much as WSJ and others WERE falsely reporting Pewdiepie, what Trump is claiming is happening is not the same. We cannot lose faith in journalism and media, that is how a dictatorship gets started. Let's all try to be logical and not make sweeping generalizations on things, even if there's a lot of emotion involved.
@victoriamccoy30277 жыл бұрын
AdventureBuns literally clapping bc you out my thoughts into a comment lol thx
@mr.b70047 жыл бұрын
The MSM does propagate fake news whether it's blatant like in this case, or if it's just demonizing Trump. Trump hasn't done much of anything, and isn't even very ideological, but the MSM act as if he is equivalent to Hitler. Distrusting the MSM doesn't lead to dictatorships. The MSM aren't unbiased, in fact they constantly express their far-left wing biases quite often. There are hundreds of non-MSM news outlets that don't propagate falsehoods for their own political agendas. Personally, I don't trust people or groups that consistently lie and manipulate stories to fit their agendas. I'm not even a fan of Trump. But the Mainstream Media is obviously biased one way.
@mhmmsam7 жыл бұрын
Marianne Burleson It's as simple as this: Trump has blatantly lied to the public countless times. MSM as you call it has pointed out his lies and used facts and legitimate resources to back this up. Trump has no facts or legitimate resources, in fact he uses BIASED MSM to get his news. Trump would like you to believe, and has seemingly succeeded, that you can't trust the news so that you'll believe anything he says, even when they're not true. A leader trying to create distrust in the media and telling lies to the public which support their own agendas is a technique used by totalitarian dictators. Believe what you will, but like I said, it is very dangerous to go along with the belief that all MSM is false and unreliable.
@mr.b70047 жыл бұрын
AdventureBuns I'm not saying I believe Trump, either. However, at least if I hear what he has to say in context out of his own mouth,I think I can decipher the BS myself rather than the MSN telling me how I should think. I haven't trusted the MSM long before it became... mainstream (what the hipster of me lol). I don't trust people or news sources just because that's what you're supposed to do. We need to be critical thinkers and not assume our 'team' always has pure motives while their 'team' is inherently malicious. The MSN has lied, omitted, and distorted the news; Trump, Obama, Clinton, Bush... have all done the same, but the MSM conveniently calls out the right more and more deemingingly than the left... There is a clear agenda on both parts, but one is represented fairly (some might say with kid gloves), and the other not so much. We can agree to disagree if you want; it's just my opinion.
@mr.b70047 жыл бұрын
AdventureBuns What serious lies has Trump propagated? I can tell you several of the MSM's lies, and some of Trump's, but most of Trump's are petty as far as I know.

100% agree!! KZbin doesn't need WSJ to write good articles about them, they are theiR OWN GOD DAMNED PLATFORM they dont need WSJ readers to have a good opinion about them bc its different generations that dont get how youtube works anyway so there's no point in them trying to save face and drop Pewds and why would MSM start such a vicious war all of a sudden it just doesn't make sense, and yt, one of the biggest platforms at the moment, could have responded and backed pewds up to illustrate how manipulative mainstream media is but they did the complete opposite. I honestly believe the biggest channel on KZbin was set up by KZbin itself. It's better for them to have more small channels that are easier to control, that depend on them more, than big ones with a lot of influence that dont give a shit and can expose them. #IStandWithPewdiepie

@takacsovatattoo7 жыл бұрын
Deirdre Jones and I'd even take it further - what makes you think children don't have a right to be exposed to absolutely everything in this world and form their own opinions? it's even more important to let them understand everything firsthand than to force upon them what is okay and what isn't

Not only that, but if they think Pewdiepie of all people is the most dangerous thing on the internet that a kid has access too...

I think he has so many subs because we sub to him when we're kids but just never unsub. I haven't watched him since 2012. but I'm still subbed to him.
@Amanda-ly5cn7 жыл бұрын
Deirdre Jones I completely agree. Creators can't control who their audience is. Ultimately they should, and do, make content that they enjoy and are proud to put on the internet. If someone thinks something's inappropriate for kids to watch then it's up to the parents/guardians to manage.

This was an educating and enlightening podcast. If this is Jenna ranting and not making sense, I'd be terrified of her when she's on her game. Everything here was concise and extremely well stated. So much love and respect for J&J.

This is totally my favorite podcast, I love how they give no fucks and always say what they feel and I also applaud Jenna for having such a massive fan base and still not selling her views to corporations who just want to get more control. On the entire Pewdiepie situation, when I just heard the news, as a Jew and someone who had relatives in the holocaust, I was honestly completely offended, but when I saw his video and understood the context over what the media was saying, I got what he meant and no longer felt that way. I feel like people will only listen to what they want and barely anyone who isn't in the KZbin community will give him a chance because they don't know him as a creator or us as a community and they dont' know that we would never allow comments like his if it wasn't to make a point. People have a problem with this network because we are all the government's puppets and KZbin is the exception, even if its own creators are slowly turning that around

Honestly, this video was thought provoking and insightful. It is KZbinrs like you guys, Felix, and Phil that I have mad respect for, for not selling out and being bought to push corporate agendas onto us. You guys are truly genuine and I hope that we as the KZbin audience keep that to be the most important thing. You guys all deserve the most success.

PewDiePie has got me through uni, he kept me company whilst swamped with work. Also you two, I still don't understand why KZbin creators aren't seen for what they are, normal people with the courage to make themselves entertainers and entrepreneurs.

This is the biggest case of CONTEXT MATTERS. Seeing these so-called "journalists" running a smear campaign against a new generation of media shows that they won't stop until they run other youtubers to the ground. Y'all stay strong and dink fam forever.

The whole thing is shameful. I'm not even what anyone would class a "PewDiePie fan". I give him mad respect for what he has been able to achieve, his content just doesn't interest me 98% of the time. However, it's pretty damn clear where the truth lies here, and Pewds has come out on top of it all (despite Maker and YT throwing him under the bus), because he was/is in the right. Sure his comedy can be offensive, even he says it's no good haha, but there was no malice in his actions, he's not a hateful person. He was just trolling the media for the titles they had already given him.
