I feel like making ur kid write an apology letter is actually a great way to make them think about their actions and how they effect people around them, and maybe even train them in having more compassion. Don’t “make” your kid write an apology. Explain to them why their actions lead to it being a necessary activity. Even sit with them and help them brainstorm how things could have played out differently and how they can be better people in the future. Your kids don’t exist to be “made” to do things. They need to be taught, helped and molded into productive members of society.

Dear Julien, As a seasoned seque critic, I am commenting to give you my absolute highest appraisal on your brilliant performance in this podcast. I've seen a lot of seques in my day and this is by far the most beautiful one I have had the honour to witness. Let me begin with saying, I am already a big fan of yours. When I hear your seques I feel a sense of warmth, enjoyment - you are well known in the community of seques! But this one, wow...the execution is 10/10. Astounding. I felt the rush of adrenaline when you gracefully tied "process" to Farmers Dog. I was taken on a roller coaster of breathtaking emotions that I had never experienced in my career. I felt a tear of happiness roll down my cheek as I chuckled deeply. Thankyou Julien for this AMAZING seque, you have changed my life as a seasoned critic. God bless.

fun fact from a teacher's kid: cursive may not be important to write irl, but its been proven to be incredibly good at helping kids learn to spell since you are literally connecting the words together and to see what letters combine to make what sounds (especially good for inconsistent languages like english lol)

When I was a kid I wrote a "book" that was probably like 12 notebook pages long about a dog named Tucker who accidentally ran away from his home on the farm and got lost and a man took him and used him for dog fighting. Tucker wasn't aggressive but he looked tough because he was a pit bull so the guy bet money on him and Tucker almost died in the fight, he woke up bleeding on the floor and the man threw a beer bottle at him and swore at him because he lost money. I remember this scene vividly, it was written but I still see it in my head like I lived it and I saw everything through Tucker's eyes. He eventually escaped and I think he got back to his home. Then I wrote a sequel/remake in middle school for a creative writing class and I read part of it out loud to the class. I was so proud of this explicit, violent tale I'd wrote to show people the horrors of animal abuse and everyone else in the class hated being there and wrote like a 3 line poem and talked the rest of the class. I was not a cool kid lmao but I'm glad I cared about animals from a young age. I wish I still had these stories.

My dog of over 15 years passed away today. This podcast helped me get through it. I love Jenna and Julien. I always feel comforted by them.

Ok, real talk - Jenna was a better storyteller as a child than I am now as a 26-year-old. That pet store story was amazing!! It sounded like you were reading an actual children’s book. Nicely done!

At least once a month, I think about Julien's reaction to a child's poem being "that slapped".
