The current vibe of the podcast is great. The worst bits are when you break the flow of convo to ask, "do the listeners want to hear this?". Listening to people talk about things they genuinely care about is engaging. Its way more relatable hearing you talk about things like the struggle of balancing a full time career with content creation. That type of thing makes for a way better pod than just talking about what we've already seen in the vid. Pod is rapidly improving 👍

I love tpd, ive met most of them at some point. Your festival reviews are amazing and the channel is great. However what you need to remember is piccadilly was there for a good 10 years before you played it. And was getting huge crowds on that thursday night slot regardless. The thursday 10pm slot always got huge crowds because it was the first set of the weekend. I dj ed the same slot for 10 years on the camp site and would get huge crowds to that. Also you have to remember all those kids at your first gig 5 years ago probs dont even do festivals anymore. Or do other festivals. Its strange how last year you were saying how much you loved piccadilly, and this year youve out grown it. Is it not the case maybe that audience has out grown you. Your right about the arena stages puting more production in, but these are world class proffesional dj,s usually. I dont want to sound negative, but could it be the case that you have also outgrown leeds fest in where your channel is. Eg the Edinburgh review was great. Why not just go enjoy the leeds fest as you did when you were lads without worrying about content or putting on a performance. Because your performance was just lads in a field living their best life.

As I’ve said before loving the podcasts!! Personally I go to a festival to get away from my phone for a few days, I only use it to contact who I’m there with, pics n vids and listening to music at camp. At balter festival you are lucky to have enough signal to text or phone someone, gotta roam about till you bump into people again if you’ve lost them.

Podcasts really leveled up recently, set and quality are on point, Ben's a top host and although you had a little moan that it's hard to get more of you together for it, I quite like the dynamic of Ben + 1, sometimes when it's been 5 or so of you in the room it's been a little too much, not everybody able to get their points across etc. and a lot of it was just talking about the things we have already seen on the main channel about the last festival, sometimes it's quite refreshing hearing you talk shit about hoovers and washing machines. My only gripe, and this is a me thing, the use of the word 'pod', it just gives me the same ick that I get from people saying lit, cap, no cap etc. Maybe it's because a pod is a real thing and two syllables shortened to a single syllable of pod feels unnecessary. The fact that's the only criticism and it's totally a my preference thing speaks volumes, really enjoying these podcasts! Also attention to detail with the logos on the mics 👌

Yes. You would assume after 5 years or whatever of good sets, along with the successful KZbin, they could make a pitch to do a TPD party at another stage as you say.
@tomevans1388
@tomevans1388 Ай бұрын
I love TPD and have supported them for a lot of years, but I think they've taken some L's this year. Firstly, Glastonbury, or the lack of - Yes, they've been before and they pretend they wanted to "try new festivals" etc, but fact of the matter is that the biggest UK festival KZbinrs should be attending the UK's biggest festival. The whole situation was really giving "well, we didn't get accreditation, so we're not going" and I feel like that was a bit of a wild take. Secondly, not playing Piccadilly because they think they are bigger than that now...I get you have a desire to grow, but what evidence have you shown over the past year that you have the ability to put on a performance that reaches this next level? Yes, you've smashed Piccadilly for 5 years in a row, but without proving to Festival Republic (or whoever it is that now books Leeds fest), that you can go to that next level I don't think you can really blame them. Raz mentioned the idea of "throwing your toys out of the pram" and I think this sort of references it nicely, it's kind of like "well if we can't play a bigger stage then we won't do anything" and it's a bit of a sore attitude to have IMO. There's a lot of people at Leeds fest, fans of the channel in fact, that would usually be looking forward to TPD's set - I feel like you are punishing the wrong people and making a rod for your own back. This is highlighted again by refusing to do a live podcast - Fans of that channel would of loved that! Looking forward to this years Leeds fest video, but I feel it will have a Picadily shaped hole in it! 😭 As ever, none of us know full info etc so this is just my take on what I've heard from this pod! Still a big fan of TPD, just want to see them succeed!

Decisions always have to be made about when enough is enough. Do the fans want more Piccadilly - sure. But it sounds like Rob and Raz are tired of the effort that goes in for what they feel like they get out. They've done it 5 years, eventually have to look at yourselves and say - is this what we are? They've done it enough and they want more and different, that's okay. Support their decision and their growth instead of being pissy that you don't get your set this year.
@tomevans1388
@tomevans1388 Ай бұрын
@@patfenn399 It's not about being pissy lad, it's wanting what's best for TPD. Sure, they've done it for 5 years, but not doing anything at the festival this year? How is that progressing? Potentially cutting ties with Festival Republic because they've thrown their toys out of the pram? Feels like a step backward. I'm obviously assuming here, who knows, FR might still love TPD. I just think TPD need to be reminded sometimes of why they do things and perhaps ground themselves a little.

Tbf the performance isnt really a performance as such anyway, its raz and the sync button on virtual dj whilst the others get pissed up and dance or shout. They'd be better at putting on club nights with some host dj's they bring into the outer tpd crew.
@tomevans1388
@tomevans1388 Ай бұрын
@@dancz6342 Prove to FR that they can do this, or even beyond this with a performance, and then maybe next year they will get a stage slot. Throwing toys out of a pram though and not doing anything at the festival feels like a step backwards!

With all due respect, when you first originally started doing the DJ sets, it was more about the DJ set rather than the channel, as the majority of people there won't have known who you are, and were there just because you were playing tunes. Obviously the channels blown up now so more people will have flocked there for you, but you've got to remember that for all the people who do know who you are, there will be a fair amount who don't, so when you're doing other things apart from playing music, it's not really what people are there for and might be a bit of a vibe killer, especially when you're not really doing "proper" mixing, its more about track curation. Piccadilly hasn't really got the infrastructure for you doing other things, so maybe you should see about doing a TPD party at another stage, as you say all roads go to Piccadilly so people will turn up there regardless of who is on, they'll just hear some tunes and they'll stick around there especially on the Thursday because there's not loads on.
@julaiyyy
@julaiyyy Ай бұрын
honestly I think they just want to put a bit of pressure on the leeds team to give them a bit more freedom because they’ve earned it with their increasing viewership and that’s their way of expressing “listen, we love doing the set but if you don’t cooperate with us in any way we’re putting off doing it this year” like at least give them mics. don’t treat them like you’re doing tpd a favour because that’s not the case anymore. both sides profit off of it. the amount of times they use their faces on instagram for promo and stuff, you can only exploit that to a certain point till one feels ripped off. could be wrong tho and if that’s the case i feel like matty healy when he told the oasis brothers to suck it up and squash the beef because you’re missing a great opportunity.
@DM-2024-1
@DM-2024-1 Ай бұрын
@@julaiyyy I get that, but that's not what the Piccadilly Party is for ultimately. There's limited things on the Thursday so the festival just want something that will keep people happy. There's dance stuff and then Piccadilly which is more Indie/Rock. What I don't understand is saying they want to do something a bit more rock n roll, whilst pressing play on other peoples music, like you're not rockstars?? You're there to curate the party for the attendees. As much as the channel and their presence has grown now, they're there to play music to party goers, a fair amount of which will not know who these guys are. What I'd say is, if TPD seriously want to do events where they're booked to do the full TPD experience, including mics and stuff and putting on shows, then they should be approaching booking agents to see if they'll take them on their roster, the same way that musicians do. There's a reason there aren't proper shows on at Piccadilly, it's because it's not really there for that.
@patfenn399

@@DM-2024-1I think the lads would tell you if tomorrowland can have a full stage in the campsite that's well designed and well programmed there's no reason other major festivals can't do the same and they're willing to participate and put effort into that. As Raz said, invest in the infrastructure and make it a little more interesting. That you can't reconcile that a DJ set CAN be some fucking Rock'N Roll is laughable, you should have learned a long time ago on this channel that Rock'N Roll is an attitude, not just a live band. I don't think they're ready to need a booking agent to play multiple shows, I don't think they have the time. They've said it multiple times, this is their home, this is their show. Maybe a bigger stage in the arena would be better for them at this point, but that's not what they actually want, they want better Piccadilly, and if that doesn't happen that's fine for them - they did it.

@@patfenn399 Not what I said but okay. I think the whole reason the channel is so endearing is because they're just like any bunch of mates and they're really relatable from that point of view, so when they want to act like all rock n roll it's a bit... nah that's not it. I never said a DJ set couldn't be rock n roll, I just don't understand why they'd act rock n roll at a Piccadilly DJ set and make it about them when that's not what they're there to do realistically, hence why I presume they took the mics away, they're clearly there to play music. If they wanted proper shows at Piccadilly, they would have done that by now the festival has been going years, there may also be licensing issues with it being out of the main arena. No-one thinks these guys are rockstars, they just like their vibe and I think they're leaning less and less into that. The channel has done well because it's nice to see people having fun, no pretentiousness needed. I think it's completely fair enough that they've decided to not do it because they can't do what they want with it, but equally it's also fair enough for Leeds fest to not want that sort of thing going on in Piccadilly, maybe it deserves a slot at another stage. There's definitely something they could do at the festival which would keep everyone happy
