If someone was sick on a plane and needed help, would a podiatrist be able to handle emergency situations? This has always been on my mind because podiatry is so specialized.
@TheDPMJourney3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question! If we were the only professionals, yes, we would handle the emergency situations on a plane. We are trained in ACLS and complex life-or-death situations, especially because, for one, we perform surgeries on patients, and they can easily react a certain way, and we'd have to be able to resuscitate, etc.

@The Podiatry Journey Awesome. So if there were medications that would save somebodies life if you were the only professionals there, is it "legal" to administer those medications even if they do not relate to the foot or ankle directly, in emergency situations?

Question, what happens to a resident who is an incompetent? I know someone who got through the first four years of Podiatry by cheating and plagiarizing. Do they get caught?
@TheDPMJourney2 жыл бұрын
This could refer to anyone in any field, so similarly, it’ll depend on many situations. If they’re doing well, then no, I suppose? We wouldn’t say that anyone is “incompetent,” but if there are things to be worked on in residency, since there are evaluations being given by attendings and peers, we improve as we go.

@@TheDPMJourney but can you learn manual dexterity? Or to learn problem-solving when during 4 years of courses you didn’t learn it? Do attending physicians teaching these abilities? Do they have time? Or inclination to teach?
@TheDPMJourney2 жыл бұрын
@@JO-mg6xc yes, you can learn it and also have no choice but to learn it in our opinions! And if you somehow don’t, then you choose your practice accordingly. There are always options!
