Thank you for these videos. I have been into archery for the past 8 years, but it wasn't until recently that I started getting into the science behind arrows and tinkering. Really enjoy these videos and learning about ways in which I can go from a beginner bow, to intermediate, to advanced and tinkering along the way.

Thank you for all your vids!! You’ve made me a better archer than I have ever been. I woke up one day and said I’m tired of sucking at archery. Started watching your videos over a year ago and now I can fine tune my bow to installing my own peep and loop. I’m a very happy archer. Thanks buddy you rock. Jim Sheldon Grayling Mi.

Thanks for all the videos!!! I was watching Elk Shape video you had with Dan about a year ago on this FOC topic. I’m new to arrow tuning, so trying to soak up as much as I can. Appreciate all the knowledge drops MFJJ!!!

I love the series. One thing I think would be really helpful is if you gave us a couple different options for components. I know there’s a thousand options out there but a lighted nock is a must for me.

Thank you MFJJ and team for taking the time to make these videos..I really appreciate the fact that you are essentially reviewing arrows and making recommendations on building practical arrows at the same time..Awesome

I really liked using these arrows last year. Built a 530 grain 16% FOC in the 300 spine. You won’t be disappointed.
@tineticklerz70162 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I built my first batch of these with the aluminum insert they came with and added 40 grain of FACT weight to the front for a total of 180 gr up front with 100 gr point and the aluminum outsert. Three fletch HEAT vanes and picked lightest out of the pack at 6.4 grains per vane. I’m using a sever 1.5 for mech and Magnus singer for fixed. Total arrow weight was also 447 grains and I calculated at 16.4 %. I’ll probably drop down a touch if I use a lighted nock. Thanks for the top shelf content Josh you can’t beat the info you’re putting out there. 👍👍
@RobertWilliams82-222 жыл бұрын
I LOVE my airstrikes… I use the aluminum insert with the collar and add 20 grains behind the insert… I do use a wrap, but I cut I’d down to just barely longer then my fletching… I take off the nock collar and use a lighted nock with a 3 fletch max stealth vein… freaking durable as heck and fly EXTREMELY well… you gotta really abuse them to hurt them.
@WillsGoneWalkabout2 жыл бұрын
Me too. I used the ethics archery outsert system weighing 130 grains and a 100 grain Ozcut broadhead for 230 grains upfront on a 300 spine. It was awesome last year on elk, nilgai and whitetail.

I've been Absolutely Loving CARBON Express BLU-r z-350 ..RED ZONE. These arrows are hands down my fav..And they are super accurate and blow thru bone and targets! Haha 380grains at BLAZING speed. Shooting flatter then anything out there.🏁🎯

@shorthairdude4172 жыл бұрын
I’m not a pro but love to tinker. I’ve seen bigger variances from these shafts as far a straightness than I’d like, for the money you pay. Now as far as weight, the 300 shafts I weighed were actually lighter than 8.5 gpi which helped with foc. Maybe they weigh nock and collar, idk! Also removed the nock bushing to keep arrow light and still achieve goal of build.

Just a idea, weight out the bare shafts to get a more accurate number. I know knocks and other components can cause weight difference when weighting out your arrows.
@D.white78322 жыл бұрын
This is awesome. Can you explain pros&cons of 4 fletch? I see a bunch of ppl doing it, but from a F.O.C POV it doesn’t make sense
@jonwarwick2252 жыл бұрын
You use smaller vanes that weigh less. Weighs close to the same as 3 fletch but get the stability of 4 fletch
@lougotz122 жыл бұрын
Why a heavier vane? Why not a lighter vane? Do you choose your broad head before your arrow or in conjunction with it? One of the issues I think many face are... lighted nock is about 23 grains and regular nocks 8 to 10. Does that 3 or 4 % make a difference? Or of you bump up to lighted nock should you bump to 125 head?

Buy Gold Tip Quantum and cut from both ends if need be. Have Quantum and Airstrike and if I'm gonna cut from each end I might as well save a few bucks. Maybe I got a crap batch of Airstrike, but that defeats the purpose of buying a .001 arrow. Quantum's are just a tad lighter gpi also.

The air strikes were super good on paper so I bought them in a 250 spine. Out of 12 I had a weight difference of 10 grains in some. And straightness was all over the place. Ended up going with x-impacts. Was skeptical of the .166 but so far so good.
@shorthairdude4172 жыл бұрын
I saw the same wide variances and went with victory Rip Tko. Happier with them!
@bmills2312 жыл бұрын
Air strikes are not worth the money imo. I've said it on another comment but the GT Quantum is their best offering at .204 in my opinion. And 9.3gpi in 250 spine
@WillsGoneWalkabout2 жыл бұрын
I got six in the 300 spine to try last year. Built a 530 grain 16% FOC hammer that went well on elk, nilgai and whitetail. That said, only 4 of them spun really well, so 66%. One of the two bed ones was tolerable. I’m going to try some RIP TKO’s this year.

How convenient since this arrow is one of the ones that I thought about ordering 3 of to test in a series of .204 size arrows to go with my newish PRIME BLACK 3 that’s set at 65 lbs and 29.5 in draw. Ok crazy question, if I wanted to do a lighted nock on these arrows and a wrap... as long as I add weight up front I still come out ok?
@patrickscheel39432 жыл бұрын
Question- As a guy slinging 31” arrows with my rest as far back as it will go- do you know of any manufacturers other than black eagle that guarantee .001” straightness the full 32” of arrow?
@patrickscheel39432 жыл бұрын
Most of the companies seem to only make that guarantee out to 28”
@ThatJamesGuy882 жыл бұрын
I’m not MFJJ, but I’d suggest you buy premium arrows from whatever your favorite brand is. Sort out the “wobbly” ones for practice. Save the best shafts for practice and tinkering. A 0.005 straightness arrow is fine for shooting field points in the back yard. Lord knows I’ve shot the crap out of my practice arrows. It’s better to ruin fletching and Robin Hood the lesser shafts.
@josephfolsom20302 жыл бұрын
Have you done a review of the Easton Axis Long Range 340’s yet?
@ItsDburch2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if a person could shoot the difference in one or even five grains in weight (but I still want to know if the shafts are all equal). Straightness is fine, but spine consistency is probably the more critical factor. I don't even think you need to show it all on camera, just one or two shafts. How do you check for spine? where is the stiff side? how stiff is it? how consistent is the spine across the dozen? Good video though, I think this could be a good series. More data, is good data.
@jamesmarshall70992 жыл бұрын

I’m sorry, but I have been shooting and making my own arrows for over 40 years. For $200 a dozen for bare shafts, then better damn well be dead straight and all weigh exactly the same. I have never paid more than $125 a dozen for shafts, and those were all Easton X-7’s. Target shafts. I am a Gold Tip shooter, but just like golf clubs and other gear, people are going to price themselves out of business. It will come, but they are blind to it, and folks are helping them by buying their products when other products will shoot just as well.
