I had one of those vaal merchant mobs that turn invisible every few seconds, who had Mana drain aura and life regen in my last map. I literally couldn't kill him no matter what I did, I just had to let him follow me the whole time and hope I could clear the map before he killed me (I didn't complete it, I got trapped with no mana trying to run from him).

10:07 - Everyday enjoyer here. I don't bother with weapon set passives because it's too complicated for me. I'm a merc that didn't use grenades until level 24 because I just didn't like the sound of them (and I only use the flash one because I wanted something that won't make me re-do everything. The game is not hard, it's challenging and engaging. Really, the only people who seem to be having a really rough time are the "pros" trying to play PoE 2 like it's just PoE 1 with a graphics update. A lot of PoE 1 gameplay caters to, and promotes lazy, afk, easy dopamine gameplay. PoE 2 is the Dark Souls of ARPGs. Prepare to die. and Get good. (Slow down, pay attention, get over the idea of pressing 1 button to win, etc). _They already made that game._ That game is still live. If you want a game like that, there's this other game out there called PoE 1.

It's such a nothing statement, the game isn't even remotely as hard, nor is combat as well structured as a FromSoft game. The reason people are finding PoE 2 hard is because the balance is a mess. I walked through the entire campaign with my Witch and died only 13 times total, sightreading nearly every boss without dying. Majority of my deaths were from Ultimatum which is over tuned. ARPGs are, and this includes PoE 2, designed to allow you to overgear. Part of the issue is that currency was (they fixed this) so scarce that IF you got unlucky, you simply did not have the tools to enable enough damage/tank to actually enjoy the game. Nothing is fun about fighting a boss for 8 minutes while it loops the same moveset (because it isn't designed to take that long). The game IS and SHOULD BE mechanically harder and slower than PoE 1, but there is a line between challenging and tedious, one which can very easily have you on the wrong side of it purely due to RNG and questionable skill balance. Of course, this is Early Access so these kinds of issues are going to be fixed, but it's still dumb to just handwave the legitimate problems by saying "oh it's like dark souls". Dark Souls is challenging yet fair, because the adversarial design is done in a way that IS fair. PoE 2 has things (or had, again they have been fixing stuff) which are friction for the sake of friction with no real uplift to the experience. For example, why tf do I have to click on a well to refill my flasks? This serves quite literally no purpose other than adding movement and a mouse click. Why are the maps so absolutely massive, but filled with mostly nothing but random packs of mobs while tiles repeat the same art at you. Why is there so much backtracking? Relatively minor stuff like that adds up. And just to be clear, I have been loving the game, I've put 61 hours into it so far and am having an awesome time. I just hate seeing all criticism swept under the rug which a shrug and a "git gud".

Sadly the game encourages you to build towards that lol, you either one shot or get one shot just like poe1. They even have bosses like Mektul to make it so you are literally forced to meet damage thresholds and are punished for being defensive

I think if GGG made respecing cost nothing the whole nerf thing wouldn't be so bad. You could at least respec yourself into something else if need be. You'd be fucked for gear but you can farm that. With how little gold you find in game on drops there's honestly no reason to make it cost anything. Usually it's a gold sink to balance out how much gold you're getting. Through my entire playthrough on my Sorc I walked away with like just under 300k gold. To respect my build entirely would cost five times that or more.

The divide seems to be if you played one of the 3 broken setups. Everyone who played one of these three had a great time: Gas grenades (nerfed) / anything bow or crossbow Slam day 1 (nerfed) Comet cast on freeze autobomber / other cast on blasting setups (still alive for now) If you played anything else, it sucked. Self cast spells are completely unplayable. Other types of melee are scuffed.

Game is dumb at this stage. it's either 0 or 100. Your build either sucks and you do no damage but mobs one-shot/two-shot you, stun lock you. Or you make some crazy ass combo and delete whole screen with no effort which is also dumb as fuck since you basically skip whole game (while still being made of paper on Atlas). To be honest, I had fun playing this game but in current state it will be just chase of trying to have fun with most broken build (while still getting one-shotted) before its get nerfed and then trying to respect, re-gear etc. I will definitely play it again for last 3 Acts but that's it.
