FKA twigs' writing abilities are unmatched. her way of speaking her true emotions and telling stories through her song lyrics are just so clever and beautifully made
@a2ad9c363 жыл бұрын
The “apples, cherries, pain” lyric in Home With You stems from when she had to take a break from music/performing, due to an ovarian cyst she had developed at the time, which was described as being able to grow to the size of an apple unless she had it removed. Robert and her grew further apart as she could not be her complete self romantically for about a year or two. Though she couldn’t perform romantically, she took lessons in pole dancing and became a literal expert at it, which she then debuted with in cellophane video. And also the Magdalene tour that came before the album came out :) true power move. Home with yoy is my fav song!!! Possibly one of my fav songs of all time too!

Thank you for reacting to FKA Twig'd Magdalene. A true modern masterpiece. She put her heart and soul on the line to talk about her relationships, pain, inner turmoil, and her battle with fibroid tumors. The fact so many people are requesting you to review other female artists without even acknowledging FKA's work is frustrating. Yes, Taylor, Lana, Lorde and others are AMAZING. I'm their fan too BUT some of these people need to give FKA her credit too. This type of treatment is why FKA suffered so much during her relationship with Robert Pattinson. The Twilight fans dismissed FKA because she wasn't the 'right' hue and he didn't stand up for her. Nasty, racist comments were made about her. Well, I'm standing up for FKA Twigs and her work. She's amazing and this project proves magic can be created from heartbreak.

I definitely will be continuing to follow her career from now on. She is incredible and very vulnerable in this album. It’s so sad how she was treated, but she’s so relentlessly creative. I am very inspired by this album. Thanks for your insights!

Home with you was about her wanting to be with Robert, even though she wasn’t their for herself. She had to go through surgery and had tumors which in home with you she described as “Apple Cherries pain” it’s my favorite off the album along with fallen alien (if you like the production on the album you should definitely check her first LP out!)

I'm here after she came out about the physical abuse she had been going through with Shia, and Fallen Alien especially makes so much more sense now. That rage and anger in her vocals and production.

I wish there was a way for you to see the concert version of this album. It was truly a theatrical piece that embodied every feeling she had for that album. Robert didn't defend her when people were being extremely racist towards her and it lead to him breaking up with her so she blamed herself. & then right afterward she had to go through multiple surgeries and whatnot. All of that played into this album.

"Fallen Alien": Oh!!! It just hit me hard: MAJOR Portishead vibes on this track (& woven throughout the rest of the album upon second listen)!! Vocals AND music!! Wow!! Sooo good!!! You should absolutely check out Portishead if you haven't yet!! I think the "Mary Magdalene" track relates to the building awareness you referred to. Women are powerful, we can be, simultaneously, the "virgin," the "whore,'" and soooooo much more. Men really went to lengths to remove Magdalene's testament and Twigs, and WE, are here to reclaim it!! This is such an exceptional album!! Thanks so much for reviewing / reacting!!
@viniciusdavidosiki42173 жыл бұрын
fallen alien show some of the religious aspect of her references in art and representation, in this song she creates a parallel with Lucifer's fall, as the archangel of light, but presenting himself as someone that is grey and dissembler under the true blazing light. She sees herself as a fallen creature too, but as an alien and not an angel, not welcomed in the heaven, hurted and now getting power after this devil's downfall. This ties with the recurrent feeling of being an outcast and diminished by her lover status, as a world famous actor, and she explores this in songs like thousand eyes and cellophane too.

It’s so true that you need time & distance before you can reflect on something so painful with enough clarity to turn it onto art. I’ve just recently been writing coherently and beautifully about a 6-yr relationship that was devastatinggggg when it ended, 8 years ago. I wrote about it before, but it just wasn’t that spectacular. It’s been sitting in a drawer because it’s not worth sharing.

@JoyfulRelaxation224 жыл бұрын
If I were you, I would definitely react to a Fiona Apple album (particularly The Idler Wheel). The WORDPLAY on that record!!! The one I reccomend to you highest. Each song is like an actual poem, although the production is very unique. The production is a little wild, free-spirit, haphazard. People either enjoy it or don't. Lorde's Pure Heroine (Extended), and Melodrama are both really good albums too. I think you'd really like Sade too or Tori Amos (she really uses a lot of storytelling). Vulnicura by Bjork also has the feeling that Magdalene has, but you've definitely got to be in the mood for it. The album is about her divorce from Matthew Barney, told from different time frames eventually leading up to the divorce, but the songs are lush and beautiful.

also i feel like some of the songs like home with you are dedicated for herself, more than a relationship, because in the end of the music video a child (that represents fka) appears in a well, and fka adult is pulling her out, then she show the child an eye that is in her stomach. I feel that that song was about her and not having a good selfcare or a selfcare at all because her dependency on the relationship. But honestly your thoghts made me saw the album in a whole other perspective, and it makes sense that is about her relationship with Robert. And also i think that she portrays herself as Mary Magdalene because of all the things that the media and the people were talking about her in that time.
