how are you doing after ttpd??
@ahmaddiab94804 жыл бұрын
Youre exactly right. Taylor was basically an outcast from her school and community. Complete rejection from her environment, she spoke many times about how nasty her peers were to her. She later had one friend, then she made friends in the industry. By the time she was 25, she had an entire squad (and most of them were shallow fake relationships). This was the direct effect of her past insecurities and her trying to fill the void and satisfy her younger self's desire for having many friends, being popular and accepted. This poem is her acknowledging all that and being self-aware, and realizing the "real" things that she should treasure to find satisfaction & happiness

I think that with "spattered with ink", she means the news headlines.. And she has the last two lines in quotes because she says she heard it as she was turning to go home.

i just realized, while watching this, taylor recited ‘why she disappeared’ during her reputation stadium tour (before getaway car).
@ms-luthor18134 жыл бұрын
I interpret the no amount of friends at 25 will fill empty seats of your past as her realizing that she overcompensated during the 1989 era with the whole squad thing. She reveled in the superficial completeness she got at being the it girl/ the person everyone wanted to be friends with until she realized the lack of sincerity and the amount of backstabbing she faced.

You were right, she didn't have friends growing up and she did try to compensate this when she became very popular and the whole squad thing emerged. She was just happy she found so many people who wanted to be friends with her but later realized that you can't have meaningful friendships with so many people and not all could be trusted.

If im not mistaken, back then when she's in middle school people bullied her for her dreams when she sat on a table, everyone left and everyone don't want to hang out with her, when she's older she's taken aback because now everyone wants to be her friend
@carolann5004 жыл бұрын
Love your breakdown and thoughts on these poems! I think you would like one of her old songs called "15". She very beautifully talks about being that age, going to school, and the heartbreak of getting used and left behind. I think all girls and guys can relate and remember how that felt. Taylor was only around 15 or 16 when she wrote it about her best friend Abigal. She was already a great storyteller even then!

You should definitely react to her Speak Now album. It’s completely self-written, and it competes with RED and folklore for her best lyrics
@ahmaddiab94804 жыл бұрын
She wrote the lines in quotations actually, theyre meant to show what she heard from the echoes, (she heard the echoes of new words: "....."). Taylor is talking about herself from the 3rd person pov.

Hi hon - don't know if you'll see this but I have an artist suggestion for you: Sara Bareilles. She's my personal favorite female artist/singer/songwriter (even more than Taylor and I LOVE Taylor don't get me wrong, have been a fan since the beginning). Sara is an incredible writer, her lyrics always get me, they're very poetic and beautiful, full of emotion, and her melodies are also fantastic. She's just a great, underrated artist and she has an amazing voice on top of it. I'd love to see your reaction to her work at some point, I think you'd really appreciate it. Also fun fact: Sara also wrote the Broadway musical Waitress which has a fantastic soundtrack, and there's a TV show that she writes the music for called Little Voice - she recorded her own versions of both soundtracks for both shows (What's Inside from Waitress & More Love - collection of songs from season 1 of Little Voice). I hope you check her out :)
