very nice videos! we have two bearded dragons one male and one female. Four weeks ago our male stopped eating bugs. He was eating kale then slowing he stopped. I found this group on Facebook asked them questions even sent picture of dragon. They told me not to worry. My only regret was not following my gut feeling in getting my dragon help. I asked several times and even suggested i was going to make a vet appointment. They said they didn't feel that i needed to take him to vet. I did take him to the vet. They decide to do blood work and gave him worm medicine. Also gave us critical care food to start feeding him. He weighed 377 grams but was dehydrated. We got fecal test back and showed he had pinworms which we needed different meds for. However blood work was back too. They showed that he is anemic, white bloods cell count is low and his sugar level is 1,000, when it should be 300. Told us they thought he may have stomach cancer. We cried he is our baby! We refuse to give up. I'm praying that the stress of pinworms and not eating are causing his levels to be off. Don't know if that is possible. We gave the first dose of pinworm medicine on the 2nd of Sept. he will get it again in 14 days. Could this be pinworm related or our we dealing with stomach cancer? He is is not attempting to eat on his own yet but is awake a little more. Praying he gets through this. Ashamed of my self for not listening to my heart before he got this bad.

Sorry to hear about your dragon Patricia. Let's just hope that the pinworm medication takes care of everything and he gets back to eating. Keep him hydrated.

Hi, love the videos! Our beardies eating has slowed down drastically over the past few months. He's 1 year old, 20" and 392g (from 400g). He had about 1 week of full brumation, and another week or two of off and on sleepiness. Now another month has passed, and he's still eating very little. He's super active, and is putting on alot of head bobbing displays. He's had about 15 dubia and 10 supers in about a month...along with a few bites of greens a day. New reptisun10 tube, repashy cal+.

I would recommend backing off the animal protein and get them eating their greens. They will always choose moving insects/worms over plants and pellets at that age. Especially if the breeder did not offer a lot of plant protein and pellets.

my dragon Parunga eats a lot of veggies I've noticed he would rather eat like lettuce and berries and such over everything else. he's 10 years old so I've had him for a long time. I usually cycle through all of this but he has little care to none for crickets and he loves super worms. how can I have him eat more crickets? IDW him always looking for super worms when it's meal time but I mist him as well twice a day and I give him water in his dish once a day. he's not fat and has tons of energy it's just around me the worms are a little pricey so I'm trying to not have to keep purchasing them as frequently as I am. lol.

I've read a few sources that say if you don't feed them dusted animal proteins that day then by all means sprinkle calcium supplement on their veggies. Once a day is really all you need to accomplish the appropriate amount, whether on their animal protein or on their veggies. There is such a thing as too much calcium in their diet which can cause hypercalcemia leading to renal failure. So while they do need it daily...don't go too overboard on the powder.

I have plans on buying a Bearded Dragon sometime within the next year or so. I've done a ton of research and have found so many opinions and tips. It's all very confusing, especially when those tips come from people who have some healthy looking dragons. Here is my plan. I will buy a scale and chart the details of my dragons' weekly weight and daily food intake. I plan on having a colony of dubia roaches as a staple feeder for my dragon while occasionally buying other feeders for variety. I plan on adding calcium supplement into the roach food in order to ensure a good calcium percentage for my dragon since I personally like the idea of the calcium being in their food rather than on their food, though I still may dust calcium occasionally (as well as other essential vitamins of course). I would like to try the various diet tips and advice that I've researched over the web and record the results to figure out what will keep my dragon at optimum health. I plan on feeding veggies with a meal of bugs every day for one month. For another month I'll try your suggestion. For another I will feed veggies all the time with only one or two medium size bugs per day. I'm not sure if this is the best way to test what certain diets do but I'm not sure what else to try. I'm not sure how often bearded dragons eat bugs in the wild. As someone who has never owned a reptile, this will be interesting for me. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is brumation. Words can only teach so much and I'm nervous about the signs to search for and if I will guess right and perform the appropriate changes. Also, if my dragon does brumate and I can predict when its brumation will go into full swing, then I would think that increasing the amount of bugs I give to my dragon in order to let it gain a little weight before I begin to stop feeding it might be helpful during that process. Not to mention it will give me some peace of mind in that my dragon will have a decent belly before going into brumation. Then again, I may have nothing to worry about and therefore I should focus more on making sure that food isn't in its digestive system before brumation. This is why I'm nervous about it. I wish there was a documentary that follows and records a bearded dragon in the wild so that replicating its diet would be easier. If you guys have any thoughts to weigh in here, I'd be glad to hear them.
@Pogonavision
@Pogonavision 9 жыл бұрын
+RarestDragon Many overthink what goes in to the care of a bearded dragon. A dragon knows when to go into brumation and you will see signs. The dragon will start hiding and not coming out when the lights come on. Again, you will notice a change in behavior. Your test isn't really going to tell you anything. How do you plan on "figuring out what will keep your dragon at optimum health"? What is a "healthy" weight? Fact is, most dragons in captivity over overweight. Fact is, dragons in the wild have been observed hanging onto the side of a tree for weeks at a time without moving or eating. They are healthy and showing signs of normal behavior. Most dragon owners would worry if their dragons didn't eat for a couple of days in a row and they weren't brumating. Don't overthink this!
@RarestDragon
@RarestDragon 9 жыл бұрын
+Pogonavision Thank you for your input. Perhaps you're right in that I'm overthinking these things. But with so many different opinions and information it's hard not to. I'd imagine a healthy weight is somewhere in the 300-400 gram range. Maybe a little more for the larger males? 'shrug' At this point I'm just trying to find information that I'm confident is the right choice because the last thing I want to do is make unhealthy choices for my dragon.

You've actually given me hope that I can add a beardie to my collection. I keep reading how you need to feed juvenile bearded dragons 3-5 times a day and there's no way I can keep up with that schedule with work and other responsibilities. For a juvenile, could I leave pellets in all day, put greens in before work, and feed insects in the evening as long as I leave a few hours with the heat and UV on for digestion? Also, given my busy schedule, would I be best looking for a yearling that doesn't require as much feeding? I really would like to grow one from a young age though. Thank you

For some people it isn't feasible to have a multitude of greens, fruits, and veggies laying about in the fridge being piecemeal-ed out to their single dragon. Would you recommend people prepare a large amount of chopped varieties of food and freezing it into smaller portions or does the act of doing that break down any nutrients or make the dragon less interested? I'm experimenting on my veggie diet to try and make it efficient and cost-effective for my dragon.

BEARDED DRAGON HELP! I got pepper on Friday from a previous owner. The habitat was so smelly and gross so I had to clean it. Saturday morning I bought a sand bedding (which I'm rethinking I wasn't going to feed her in her home but her being new I may have to) and a cave. So I took her out & put her in a plastic tote bin for a bath. She was fine & let me pic her up I wrapped her in a shirt to dump the water to feed her crickets. When I put her back in the tote she became aggressive once I started to walk around her. So I picked her up from the floor and took her in. When I picked her up she continued to fluff and blacken her beard and lunge at me. Eventually she cooked down once I put her on a higher level & I picked her up in the shirt again and put her in her home when she was ready for me to. She climbed on the cave & walked around when she thought I left. She seemed happy. Sunday she didn't move when I was home & hours later when I got back she was still the. It's Monday and she still hasn't moved. I'm afraid she's hurt & she didn't eat the veggies I left for her Sunday. Please help I really want to be a great owner & make hear healthy, happy but also tame. She's a juvenile about to be an adult I was told. I know I scared her but how much time does she need to adjust? When can I take her & any tips are welcome? Also what time should I feed her? I'm gone from 2:15-615 daily & longer on weekends but I left her food.
