Big time facts 💯 It's still one of the all time greats. Keanu gets a lot of negative blowback because people think he acts this way all the time but it couldn't be further from the truth. And both him and Swayze nailed their roles. It's beyond awesome.

Patrick was my childhood hero, and Keanu is one of my fave guys out there. The two together on their prime beauty, in an awesome action movie jumping planes, alongside the cool cat Gary Busey, in the early 90s. I cant ask for more! Patrick was like Matthew McConaughey. He could dance, fight, do romance, drama, comedy, all of it. He got that good vibe and charm in everything he did, which is the same for Keanu. Perfect duo! RIP ma guy! The 80s and early 90s were the best! Cheesy action movies understood exactly what they were and didn't pretend to be anything more serious. Young Bruce Willis, young Keanu, young Tom Hanks, young Kevin Costner, prime Arnold Swarzenegger, peak Patrick Swayze, prime Meg Ryan, pre-implosion Sharon Stone, pre-insane Tom Cruise, peak John Hughes as a director, James Cameron when he actually made more than one movie every decade. I was a kid when this movie came out. Having grown up in Southern California in the LA beach communities, this movie always hits home of how beach life felt back then, the neon colors, the long hair, the “duuude” lingo was all real. @@Mike-mj8oj Why? It seems like there are A LOT of people (especially men) doing considerable harm to people (especially children of late) and they all claim to be followers of the religion you follow. Actions speak louder than religious texts. It also speaks volumes when people express a desire for others to join their religion (or suggest life has no purpose or the person’s actions have no value without a specific religion) but delete their comment when challenged with facts. Here’s a hint: you do not need to promote YOUR religion every chance you get. Just live your life & let others live theirs. If they want to find religion, it’s not that hard.

Before Keanu Reeves was cast as Johnny Utah, Tom Cruise, Matthew Broderick, Charlie Sheen, and Johnny Depp were considered for the character. Val Kilmer wad considered for the role of Bohdi before Patrick Swayze was cast. Ridley Scott was considered to direct the film, but dropped out in order to direct THELMA AND LOUISE. Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron's wife at the time, was hired after producers were impressed by her action movie Blue Steel with Jamie Lee Curtis. Patrick Swayze‘s character and Keanu Reeves is our kindred spirits, they are soulmates. Their bond is stronger than Kiana‘s bond with any other character in the film, no one understands him better than Swayze. The reason why Kiana lets him go is not only because he loves him, but also because he shares in his love for the wave, for life. Swayze teaches Keanu the important lesson that life should not be structured, it should not be robotic and predictable, life should be lived to the furthest rather than survived. At no point in the film does Swayze go to far, he only kills one person in the whole film and it’s out of self-defense. Everyone else who gets killed is killed by someone else, someone who doesn’t share in Swayze‘s loathing for violence. It is sad that Kiana‘s partner died, but it was not Swayze‘s fault. It’s tragic, but that’s why Keanu doesn’t want revenge, and doesn’t hate him for it, because if it was Swayze who showed up behind him, he would not of shot. It’s a beautiful film that chooses to explore humanity in such a beautiful way, and really look at these two characters and focus on their bond, rather than giving us a typical action plot. The fact that instead of having some tent scene where they try to kill him on the plane, instead Swayze tries to drive home to lesson, that this is what matters, living on the edge, try new things, pushing ourselves beyond our breaking point, he takes him skydiving to help him remember the life he has for surfing. He could’ve killed him, they could’ve beat him up and threatened him, but instead he tries to help him see his point of you. And at the end of the film, Keanu does, that’s why he quits.

Only, you don't arm up to rob banks unless you are ready to kill. Furthermore, one can easily debate that Bodhi has a psychological change in mindset when he orders the vault to get hit because the whole point to the robberies being quick is to offset any possibility of a police shootout whilst ensuring that they can keep the crime spree alive. He also draws on the undercover cop first knowing his magnum would do the killing first.

I think Utah was just content in knowing that Bodhi knew that he was caught, that someone had finally beaten him, but at the same time, Utah felt like he owed it to Bodhi to let him die in those waves since he was the one that changed his perspective on life. Bodhi might've gotten lost along the way, but the wisdom he passed on to Utah was real, hence why when Bodhi asked if he was still surfing, Utah answered "Everyday" because his entire life was on a new path now. It's also why he tossed his badge into the surf, because he stopped being a Federal Agent the moment his partner got killed. He just needed to finish the job he and his partner started before he could truly be "finished." My head canon is that he and Tyler ended up running some surf shop together.

The boys are great. I love them. But let's shout out the ladies too. Kathyrn Bigelow made a gorgeous, really fun movie. I was always a fan and so happy for her when she later won her Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker. And for a few years there, my girl Lori Petty was having the most fun in the movies. Surfing with the cool guys, playing baseball with the greatest girls, freeing killer whales, being Tank Girl. She was such a blast to watch. Glad you guys liked it, and so glad Carly was on board for it.

One of the best chase scenes filmed. Some of this movie went right over peoples heads when it came out which is weird because its not an overly complex movie. Also lead singer of The Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis plays "Tone" one of the surfers that gang up on Johnny the "That would be a waste of time." line is hilarious because thats the peak of his acting range. Also his name being Tone is neat because he's a musician.

One of my favorite movies ever. Both Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze were great in this one. I saw this when it originally came out in theaters(I was 20 years old). I took a hard pass on watching the remake just because it would not be the same without Keanu and Swayze. Personally I don't think the age matters much, there's a bunch of excellent movies that are considerably older. Many of the best action movies are also from the 80s & 90s. Good movies tend to stay good movies, regardless of age. Naturally some seem cheesy now, but they were also pretty cheesy(often intentionally) when they came out, much like many new movies aren't going to be looked back on fondly. For the oldest movie(so far) I personally found very good, I'd recommend the dark comedy "Kind hearts and coronets" from 1949.
@monovision566

@@DoubleMonoLR It depends on the movie. In that genre, they tend to age especially poorly. I watched the first couple Lethal Weapon films recently and they haven't held up nearly as well. I'm not just referring to content, but also the filmmaking techniques at play. Bigelow's shot composition and direction of action remains relevant and kinetic in a way few action films of that year would.

There are several types of breaks in surfing including *Beach Break*, *Reef Break*, and *Point Break*, each is defined on where the wave "breaks" on landfall. Point Breaks are the most popular because of the traveling pipeline (letting surfers ride the wave longer), and unlike the others they are very unidirectional.

The winning option was 'Boaty McBoatface'. In the end they named it the 'RRS Sir David Attenborough' but they gave the name Boaty McBoatface to one of its submersibles instead. So "did you think his name was Boaty?" was extra entertaining 😂

The eyes are normally lubricated by salt water. The difference is the saltiness, but we're not far off so it's not so bad. :) One of the best bits about the beach is all the salt and minerals in the water which will clean up skin problems. When I was a kid I used to have boils and pimples all the time, except when the whole family went away for 4 weeks on holiday at the coast. Skin cleaned up and I felt healthier than I ever did, so long as I didn't forget to slap on a little sunscreen. ;) The beach can be a little intimidating when the waves are high but you'll be okay if you just stay on the edges and avoid a rip.

For surfboards, longboards are more stable, but not easy to maneuver. Shortboards are nimble, but throw you quickly because they aren't stable. So longboards are used just to ride the wave in nice and steady while a short board is used to cut around the waves and be more acrobatic.
