The essence of Point Break, the BROMANCE and EMPATHY between the protagonist and antagonist, has been emulated so many times. So many of Keanu-starred movies are seminal: Bill and Ted, Point Break, Speed, The Matrix, John Wick. Keanu is a great and versatile actor. I love his acting style in all genres. He's had several mediocre (but still very watchable) and a few duds - mostly attributable to directing/small budget - but that's alright, as he's made so many memorable movies. Also, a number of his movies are underrated gems.

Lavern Merriweather And a well deserved oscar. The attention to detail is incredible. Great continuity, and in regards to a car chase, this is how its done. They even ran the chevy engine till it just about siezed (from extreme overheating) so that the delco starter straining over was super authentic....that is how they actually sound. Most directors dub in a generic permanent magnet style starter sound (like newer cars) because they know jack shit about cars....and dont care (because most people ALSO know nothing about cars.) It is so nice to see someone make a film that actually gives a shit about little details such as this...and others, like the interior scenes where they ACTUALLY TAKE SHIFTER OUT OF PARK on the greenscreen car buck. Its amazong how many directors forget to do this...and once you notice it, its infuriating to see.

Back when movies did real stunts, no bullshit green screen and c.g.i. Also a time when the actors were either actually driving or pulled by a camera truck. It's much more exciting to watch knowing stunt drivers and the crew risked their lives to perform real stunts on real city streets. Plus, it's just intense and thrilling to watch rather than seeing computer effects that suck the joy out of it knowing they're not actually doing any of the stunts. Even to this day a lot of green screen or c.g.i. car chases still look fake, it hasn't improved all that much!

I won't argue that it was a no-holds-barred adrenaline fuelled thrill-ride, but there's no way that you could perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork.

Great movies like this one took a chance and paid off. It has outlasted one remake already 💙 So many Gems from the 80s and 90s.
