Rat poison is also bad in another way, and I've seen this happen twice in two different countries now. Often times, the rats live in clusters of up to 200 individuals. It is hard to find their nest, so the exterminators will often just put poison out here and there. But rats are smart, they won't all go to the new thing to see if it is a snack, only one or two will take a nibble. Then they go back to their nest, then sickness sets in and then they die. The other rats don't know what killed them, only that there's something new there that is deadly, so what is their reaction? They flee the nest and move to another area. Exterminators get paid because there's no more rats there now, but the surrounding area suddenly has 4-10 new rat nests and poison will no longer do anything because they all remember what happened last time they smelled that new thing.

A scary thought: Goats have that near-360 vision, which indicates they are prey animals. What predator would be ballsy enough to prey on goats? Ok, so I looked it up. Looks like the only animal that really hunts adult goats while they are awake (and the eyes and horns would be useful for defence) are bears. That makes sense, I guess. I wonder if there were more large predators during the evolution of those eyes then...
