I've come to the conclusion that most Russian ballets are vodka-fueled cries for help. French ballets are emo. Italian ballets are limoncello-feuled fever dreams. Either that or the original stories were inspired by one too many puffs on the Devil's Lettuce.

1991 was literally the year the USSR collapsed and Russia lost almost half of its GDP by 1998. I can't help but think that those ballet students were using what they had available to them the best they could which may have included hand-me-down shoes.
@fati2487
@fati2487 2 жыл бұрын
oh it absolutely included hand-me-downs. I did other type of dancing in early 2000s in a post-soviet union country and most of the items, even stage costumes, were from older dancers and we just had to adjust them as much as we could

I was put on pointe in the mid 90s, we used cotton for padding and the "fitting" was a bag of shoes the older girls had used and grown out of and we just went through the pairs and got whatever we decided was OK.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.] - (AMPLIFIED version) NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. If you have any questions let me know xx x

The 80's pointe shoe situation was about the same as that video. The toe pads were way too thick and if your teacher didn't think you could feel your feet... No padding, no joke and it killed. That's why pointe ruined ballet for me. Love the reaction videos! 🤣

Luxating patellas is a fairly common problem in small breed dogs. For minor cases, teaching your dog to kick back (like the dégagé) can be one way to put the knee cap back in place. (Source: my dog's vet taught me about this after my dog's knees were diagnosed.)
@jwolfe1209
@jwolfe1209 Жыл бұрын
Some dogs also like doing this while you're trying to get an even haircut on their back leg... "ballerina leg" for the pet groomer leads to divots 😅
@melovekittie
@melovekittie Жыл бұрын
My dog had that too. For dogs at least it happens because they don't weigh enough as babies to put pressure on the knee cap, which is needed to create the patellar groove. She needed surgery to create the groove and pin the cap in place. Any dog with a max weight under 8 pounds is very likely to get it

Please do a video about Bill Nye's pointe shoes! He created a patent for a more sustainable and comfortable pointe shoe back in 2002 and I would love to bring more attention to this/see if it would actually work!
@EnchantingWings1
@EnchantingWings1 2 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling that it's what the Elektra pointe shoes may become. They have interchangeable shanks. Apart from the box breaking down eventually, it's more sustainable to have interchangeable shanks than binning pointe shoes after two or three classes (more if you don't have strong or flexible feet), having multiple pairs of shoes for different things, etc. It would be fun if they made interchangeable boxes, but that might not work as well, given that the box needs to be sturdy enough to keep toes in place.

My bestie did ballet. Then she forgot to chalk her shoes, or something, so her toe stuck to the stage and a dad got to reduce her dislocated knee. Her old studio won't let her dance anymore, because of the brace she has to wear. I remember going to her house, and just quietly sitting and nodding while she talked about pointe shoe problem, and I had no clue what half of what she said meant.

The things that make you laugh and smile make me laugh just watching your joy,, but also teaches me a different perspective on what YOU see vs what I see and thought was funny, and I really appreciate that. You are demystifying ballet just a bit and making it easier to appreciate and understand the work, skill and dedication that goes into being a dancer and supporting a dancer behind the scenes...Thanks!

That clip from 1991 reminded me of my ballet experience. I took ballet from 1980 to 1997 in Canterbury England, and we had zero guidance for pointe shoes. Just a massive cupboard of old shoes and a tape measure. I have very high instep, very high arch (banana feet) but my feet are also incredibly wide … Madam Woodman would bang her huge gnarly walking cane on the ground and scream positions at us in perfect French/Russian and get so impatient if we weren’t perfect! We used to stuff our pointe toe with sanitary pads - often one ripped in half in each shoe because it was expensive. One girl used her mothers old stockings and she said it was softer Love your videos 🩰

Ok to be fair… I think in certain parts of the world there were better pointe shoes back then. But the Vaganova video was from 1991… the height of the Soviet Union, and we (Russians) had very minimal resources during that time. Things in Russia were very different then, they’re better now but even 10-20 years ago we had far less than we do now. Just a thought :)

I love watching you younger ladies. Takes me back to my days as a dancer. I loved to dance point but after my knee injury I could never dance point again. 🥰😘 Lot's of love from a former dancer.

every time she says her name in the beginning of these videos I jump because of how incredibly not used to hearing my name (which is also Josephine) on the internet

I love pointe shoes, imagine someone giving them to you who don’t know that they die, and you say “Thank you!” and immediately crack them in half.

I love your videos. I haven’t done ballet in many years but it makes me want to take a ballet class again. I’d also love to go on point again to see if I can still do it…❤️

One thing about the Vaganova Academy, that was 1991 in Russia and the wall had just fallen 2 years prior. They didn't have many resources whatsoever for much of anything (except lining the pockets of those in power). I'm not surprised their shoes were crappy back then and even more so than now the kids were on the sports pipeline. "Your body is suited to this activity, we'll shove you into ballet/gymnastics/whatever sport we feel is appropriate from the time you're 5 years old and you can see your family on the weekends, sometimes."
