ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this KZbin journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

There are a couple brushes I frequently use that were not mentioned. Once a person is comfortable with the basics, perhaps investigate and give these a try: quill, dagger (1/4 or 3/8), reservoir (a specialty type of liner), hake (for wetting large areas evenly) and scrubber (for removing or softening).

Thank you so much for the information that you provided 🙂. For those interested, a serrated flat brush is also known as a comb or a comber brush because of how they look when wet. I think if you have a comb/comber brush then there is probably no need to get a fan brush, unless, of course, you have a very specific use that only a fan can fulfil.

So helpful and logical. Love the validation that synthetic brushes have come into their own value with a cruelty-free product with no significant effect on quality. I've been kinda cringing about the poor little squirrels and sables.

Hullo Margot, thank you for sharing this basic information on brushes with us. I once went to a workshop for watercolors and the instructor had only 1 brush for the class requirements. Yep a number 12 wide belly brush! I know synthetic brushes have come so far in just the last 15 years! There are several brands but the Mimik brand has several excellent quality lines. I have become a fan of the Princeton Aqua Elite series. I even got my uncle who swore he would never be “fooled” by a synthetic brush! He spent a lot of money on those Kolinsky brushes! I tested him with the Mimik Kolinsky synthetic and he could not say which brush was synthetic or natural hair! Yes I did sand the lettering off before letting him handle them. I have not used all of your brushes in paintings in my career but I have worked in most mediums and I found this video very well done. Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge of brushes with us.

Patty-what are the cat's tongue and deer foot brushes used for? I hear people reference them, but I have been unable to find them in the art store.
@Jaline_on_YouTube
@Jaline_on_YouTube Жыл бұрын
A cat's tongue brush is another flat brush variation. It is like a slanted brush but the "slant" is on both sides. It really shines when used for painting flowers - depending on the desired petal shape, the flowers practically paint themselves. A deer foot brush is generally stiffer. It is a variation of the round brush but has a rounded, flat top. It is usually used for stippling effects but it also works great for foliage on trees, etc. Again, neither of these brushes are vital, but they are fun to try out. It is not likely that either of these brushes would be used for an entire painting. When I got mine a year or so ago, I bought them from Amazon because my local Michael's (our only art store in our small city) did not have them, either.
