These 3 Kickstarters make no sense...
Twitter → / wickedwizard15
Twitch → / wickedwizardtwitch
These aren't necessarily the worst Kickstarters but they made me laugh in one way or the other.
Kickstarter used to be full of many dumb ideas, scams, and even drama. Kickstarter Crap was my all-time favorite series back in the day and I thought I'd go check out some crappy Kickstarters myself.
None of these appears to be scams but you can go check them out yourselves here:

Another flaw with this "futuristic" PC is that its basically a beamer with a laser keyboard. Ever used a beamer outside? Or against a non white wall? So they made a worse laptop trying to improve the laptop. They decreased portability to increase portability.

We made a laptop that is more portable by severely restricting the places you could use it… Like for real you can’t use this in places like a coffee shop or really any public place. You can’t use it outside. You need a table and a nearby flat white wall, which also means you can’t use it in a classroom either. Like it’s completely unusable in every place you’d use a laptop

@@hanneswiggenhorn2023 Yea, more than likely, (particularly at that price point), it'd be little more than some basic stuff to where you could run MS Word or your internet browser and little else. Which is particularly dumb since there's so many issues with using a laser keyboard that you wouldn't even be able to really use Word. Basically all the actual functionality you'd use it for, you can do better with the smartphone you already have, with at worse a bluetooth keyboard hooked up. Particularly since you can get foldable mini-keyboards that work pretty well for fairly cheap. It'd be about the same bulk all in all, but with the only "downside" being a smaller screen that you can use everywhere.

When mentioning the first thing where an established brand runs a kickstarter to fund a new product, I've noticed this sort of thing being really common in tabletop RPGs. Companies with established product lines will crowdfund not only to start new product lines, but just to produce new books in the same line. I guess it has something to do with ensuring they don't have to charge an unreasonable price for the books since they'll be sold among a much narrower audience.

it's basically preorder, but somehow with less consumer rights than a preorder and possibility to get more publicity than a preorder. on the other hand it's a way for a company to say that look, if there's this many people who want it then we'll sell it, while in a preorder they would be already committed to it.

Phrism is a whimsical idea, I like the creator's gumption. My daily kit 1-ups it though: my smartphone + a folding Bluetooth keyboard, which itself has a fold-out phone-stand. The keys are scissor-lock with just enough travel and weight to feel comfortable, and there's a trackpad. If I want a larger screen I can bring my tablet but the phone's usually enough for drafting lesson plans and student worksheets. It's too bad laser keyboards aren't better than they are though, I used to be really into those in the aughties.
