Points Ignition No Spark "FIXED" - 1970's Toro 421 Snowblower

I got my hands on a 1970's Toro 421 snowblower with a Tecumseh 4hp engine. It came in to the shop not running with not spark.
I this video I will show you how to diagnose and reset a points ignition system which is not producing spark

I'm also working with the same blower. Got it free and didn't run. Also the carb needs the rebuild kit, which is on it's way. After cleaning the points the spark was back and got it running. Nice little piece of machine. I love how simple it is. The bolt you were struggling to get the puller assy cover off, doesn't need to be removed. Just a little pry with a flat head scewdriver allows to slide to cover off. It's easy to put back in angle.

60's Era Harley Davidson Motorcycles taught me all about points. I much prefer it to the later electronic ignition systems.

That is the snow thrower I just handed down to my son I bought new in 1980 . I replaced one belt and the carb. ( I went to get a rebuild kit and was offered a new carb for $20 I took it ) Also standard things - plugs , oil . air filter I think he replaced the gas line BUT that engine still starts on ONE pull 41 years of chicago winters.

I’m wondering if the valves are stuck judging how much it was backfiring from the carburetor try to pull the head off and check them out if they’re moving

That would explain the low compression... Also the raw gas getting into the exhaust and able to burn.

Probably just a bad head gasket. You can see fuel leaking out of the head when cranking.

Just get a bunch of thread tape.... On the threads .. then try the compression. Grrr.. that's what you can do... You can't hear meeeeee.. lol
