The people in Palestine in 1948 were a mixed population of Jewish people, Christians, Arabs, and many ethnic groups. The Nation of Israel was born out of a conflict that erupted between the Arabs and the Jewish people in the 1920's after also the Arabs revolted against the British. Israel won the war in 1948. Yes. At the Ottoman times Jerusalem was a neglected and forsaken small town. The main town at that period of time was the town of Ramlah which was built as a county town in the 8th century by the Muslims. It's only shows you how holy was the town to the Muslim in the beginning of the Muslim era.
