What I don’t understand is when ivy and batgirl fight each other why doesn’t ivy just have her vines grab batgirl. I mean it’s poison ivys lair so that’s where she will be at her most strongest. Like if you fight someone who can control plants in a Forrest or garden you know your gonna get grabbed. Like fighting magneto in a junk yard where it’s full of metal you know you’re gonna struggle.

@WhistleMeThis6 жыл бұрын
Agreed, Poison Ivy should’ve been the fourth movie’s main villain. She should’ve been the main villain alone like Joker in the first movie, or accompanied by Scarecrow or Bane. Mr. Freeze’s inclusion was one of the first decisions that sent this movie to hell. If anything, Arnold Schwarzenegger should’ve played Bane and they could’ve made him a more dimensional character that Dr. Isley brainwashes into becoming her brain-dead zombie servant. This version of Ivy had a bit of a voodoo vibe to her anyway so that would’ve worked perfectly.

Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy is just grand. Every little detail of her performance is hilarious and she knew exactly what she was doing, and excelled. It’s an A+ performance. Remember, at the time, this movie was intended and expected to be the biggest superhero movie of all time. Made in 1996, the apex of ginormous over-powered Power Ranger hyper action figure tubular ridiculous energy. This is the Batman equivalent to that. It mixes the kiddiness with all the perverted fetishism that that Batman toys, action figures, and comics had evolved into by that point. Schumacher elevated the essence of the Burton films to this borderline space operatic level and Uma Thurman clearly understood this best in the cast. She knew what kind of epic opportunity she’d been given and the character is written very cleverly. Overall the movie is actually quite faithful to the Silver Age of comics. There’s nothing innately sinful in adapting the Silver Age, it just turned out to be the total opposite of what adult audiences were craving at the time. Instead of being the highest grossing super hero movie ever, it blew up in their faces like a dud firecracker. A failed experiment that people still love. Because it’s simply entertainment, which is what Schumacher intended. Thurman’s performance is definitely on par with Jack Nicholson’s Joker and Danny DeVito’s Penguin in terms of Bat villains.

Same! It's such a fun and yet dominant line that showcases just how out of his depth batman is. Look at the smug look on his face. He thought he had her right where he wanted her only to have her vines grab him by his boots and then easily wrapped up. Silly boy 🤣🤭☺

I love how absolutely nothing in this sense makes a lick of sense. It really frees the mind to fully enjoy the theater of it all. Best part is that Batman was recording Poison Ivy from the exact camera angle we saw and later showed this footage to Mr Freeze, all while freeing himself from the veins.

Gotta give props to the costume department here. It's a small detail, but a cool one. When Robin arrives, Poison Ivy's outfit has some form of sleeve that covers her palm along with a veil around her wrists, but after she pushes Robin into the water, she gets spikey wrist bands.
@Jack-tx8eu3 жыл бұрын
You know what annoys me. So Batgirl here is all saying that Ivy depending on her looks gives woman a bad name, and that she should “Read a book sister”, right? Right. Okay, I get it, Batgirl is supposed to be like the leading heroine in this movie. Buuut, Batgirl literally got kicked out of school because of motorcycling rather than focusing on studying, of all things. Poison Ivy/Pamala Isley has a literal PHD in Botanic bio chemistry #1 and #2 her whole reason for being evil is she was a subject to a chemical accident and she now wants wants to save the planet due to her new personal connection with plants. She also is drop dead gorgeous so she can easily use that to her advantage. So instead of helping the emotionally,mentally, and physically damaged woman who has a good and relevant cause for her actions, batgirl kills her without a second thought about it. And little girls are supposed to look up to her. Idk I might be biased because I heavily support feminism and I just take to villains more, but Barbra, in this movie, should have been better thought out.

The fight scene is meant to flow with the TONE of the film. That's why it's setup that way. Joel Schumacher was more ''style over substance'' but even ''style'' can be substance at times.

@@JIMANGRYFOOTCOMICS yeah no, that fight at least seemed rewarding. This fight literally has batman trapped by three vines while robin is failing to swim in a puddle. They are both completely helpless just so they can show bat girl

One of the main things that I always bugged me the most and really doesn't seem to be acknowledged is that there is no conflict between Batgirl and Poison Ivy. They never met each other, and most likely didn't even know of each other till now. Yes Ivy is evil and Batgirl is good, but there's no real dramatic payoff at the end. And Alicia Silverstone taking out badass Uma Thurman, I don't think so. On a positive note, I still drool over Uma in that sexy red outfit.
@KrystalTomlin6 жыл бұрын
Harley Quinn should've done the deed, given that she and Ivy have more connection thanks to TAS. Yes, they're both evil, but Harley is also more-or-less Ivy's last connection to humanity.

It was meant to be this way as a piece of work under someones vision and i think it's brilliant!

Not the point I know, but for some reason I still like the two looks they have going on here. Poison Ivy - excessive, extravagant, meticulous but fabulous, flawless make-up, out-there clothes and perfectly styled hair. Batgirl - mask and costume aside, going for the simple natural look (just a bit of lip make-up), somehow manages to not pale in comparison right next to Poison Ivy (which is hard to do - though it might just be because of the classic black look her outfit is going for)
