Simply upping the voltage on the ESC doesn't fix the issue of not having enough amperage. A BEC is required with any reasonable sized servo when running 3s or greater.

Shown in this video you see the stock wheels with some VOODOO tires. I will be installing the Axial BFG's back on soon.

If you're watching this after 2018..... There's one more thing to add to Harley's great advice. ~ IF you're main focus is in Crawling and slow speed control - DON'T EVEN LOOK at any *2 Pole Motors!!!* Technology has definitely caught up in Brushless! 4 Pole should be the minimum.... but TenShock has released a series of *6 Pole 9 Slot Sensorless Brushless Motors* in 1250, 1750, and 2400kv. Hands down, the SMOOTHEST Sensorless Motor you can buy!! 👏👏👏👍👍 I've been blown away by the Performance, and at only $40-45.00, a steal. (NO, I get nothing from them for saying that. I get nothing from ANYONE! 😥😑) I'm on a Seriously TIGHT Budget, and these deliver. If you want Sensored, still stay away from 2 Pole Motors! There's so many 4 Pole Sensored Motors out there, that will give you the SPEED with Control. ...... Just adding to an already Great Series!

I just installed the MMP/Roc 412 3100kv combo in my Wraith. Outstanding!! I had concerns that I would loose some low speed control but I cannot tell the difference from the 27T brushed motor it replaced. To prep for the motor I installed t32p 11/56 gears, Robinson Racing steel gear set for the transmission and I epoxied aluminum tubes in my stock Axial drive shafts. Tip: Getting the Castle Link to upgrade the firmware and specify your settings is a must.

***** yas! i race castle and if i could not get castle link it would be unusable from standard. too much timing, too much braking force for 2wd, i need to mess with the throttal curve but havent yet. but i drive very very off what a normal person does so thats why really

Grizzly Adams just called...he said he wants his beard back! Hunting season? Fashion statement? End of days? After running the ROC 412 in the Jimmy's, I'm a fan. Not a fan of the metal spur and metal 32 pitch pinion gear setup though. I love the fact that my tranny is rock solid, but If you can explain why at low rpm it sounds like hell and at full tilt it sounds beautiful, I'd gladly send you a razor. Greg

wow what a great video, I bought a poisen spyder, maybe you can help me with a 2017 setup. I lik my spyder to be a rock racer, I would like to go 30 + kmph I do not want to spend alot of money on a bulletproof gearbox so a tekin 412 is to much for me. What motor + esc combo + gearing do you recomment - motor + ESC combo - gearing

so what do you think of the AE-2 esc that comes with the poison spyder? i feel its quite complicated and anoying...but im a noobie so my opinoin realy dont matter. FYI i am doing a rebuild of my spyder in the almost same fashion you did. Very cool ride btw. keep the wraith videos alive please..im learning alot thanks to you sir.

@@Team-Fraser I get about 10-12mph with 32 Pitch, 56/11 Gears, on 2400kv Brushless, if that helps.... No real Speed, but great Control on the Rocks. Oh, and that's 2400kv SENSORLESS 6 Pole 9 Slot, with a Hobbywing WL10BL120 ESC!!!! The Motor is a new Sensorless Crawler Motor from TenShock. Shockingly Smooth, relatively Cheap ($40.00 about). ZERO Cogging!! I'm almost surprised that more Companies don't look into 6 Pole, Sensorless Motors.... Although it's likely that there's more money to be made in the Sensored Motor Market! 😱😫

so, yeah, this video series is three years old...LOL. But I am a recent convert from 1/10 scale buggy racing to crawling. My question is, can I expect the drag brake of the brushless system to be good enough for fairly hard-core crawling, or is brushed still the best option in that regard? I appreciate ant guidance I can get with my Wraith build, which will be primarily for crawling and tail running. Thanks!

*2 Years Later.......* The Drag Brake on my Hobbywing Brushless System, STRIPPED the little Plastic Idler Gear in my Transmission!!! And that's with *2400kv* and the Drag Brake set at 60%!! It's now at 35%, with all Steel Gears. ..... MAYBE this will help someone else, after 2018.

I have the Mamba max pro and roc412 2300kv in. And love it. Just don't know why you put bec in when you can up the out put volt on the esc?

the rear upper link mount ( on the axle) seems to be too low , thus the TH tends to torque twist

U have worked on this a lot, what Allen wrenches do u have and do u have problems with screws stripping out on the Allen part? I have nothing but bad luck

I use a variety of tools, as they wear out, you just have to replace. Same with hardware. Check out Screw Loose Hardware on Facebook and get a bulk bag of hardware.

And will a esc out of a spawn work? Should all be the same but it can run 3s, mine is acting up and don't want to spend a lot! U have any idea if it'll work? And so sorry for all the questions, I am learning more and more every day lol

Hi Harley. Been runnin a mild Tekin, mmp 3s, i guess because I added some scale looks,.. so mild is too mild, and need more, to much strain on the motor.. I ordered this motor very recently,hehe, plus I'm running complete 6mm super -shafty.power train +, and 56t. BOTH Pumkins are running HD stock 38/13..For this motor, could You kindly suggest a satisfying pinion count to start with..?mod 0.8..{while it's all disassembled,} And,do u suggest to just keep running 11.1v ? Do you still feel this motor is the way to go? Also, would a 3100 work well with a 2s battery. I am looking for more speed than the stock setup but still be able to crawl

I still love this motor and it is still my GO-TO most of the time. Even on 2s it would be my choice, but it really comes alive on 3s.

Harley Designs i have not myself crawled with cencorless motors but i know those who do and they used a castle esc and faffed around with the throttal curve and a bunch of other settings and made it almost feel like a censored motor. but that is way too much work to justify it...
