"Native Tounge" was released during the Seattle "Grunge" explosion...So the album didn't get as much credit as it deserved because there was a new Sheriff in town (Kurt Cobain)...Had it been released 2 years earlier things might have been different...But it's a great treasure to listen to, and appreciate it more now.

Gospel is historical Baptist music. This is not bc of being too new. It's good old rock n roll my religion. If you count all songs using gospel singers as gospel, then the black crows, rolling stones, Aerosmith, etc are all gospel. Yet they are not. They are rock, using occasional gospel backup vocals. The Gospel spirituals are a unique part of religious history in the usa. And as much as I love rock, do not confuse the 2. Bc pure gospel predated rock n began with southern blues like led belly, into Elvis, etc. Let gospel stand as it always is.

Bands like Van Halen, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Poison, Guns n Rose's, and Ozzy dominated pretty good in the early 90s. People tend to forget that. For some strange reason todays culture, or you could say the last 10-20 years of the mainstream media have been pretty much trying to throw away all these memories of groups like this and make like grunge groups were the pure soul of this era but I can tell you right now that even in 1994 groups like this were still really big it's just todays culture trys to get us to forget about it and just remember the grunge groups as the dominant force. Anyone that was alive like I was would remember.

A very underrated song. Native Tongue is my favorite Poison album. It just does not get the love it deserves. Richie Kotzen was the right choice of replacement for CC DeVille i wish he stayed in the band a bit longer. I feel he could have made another kickass album with them.

@davidcarey56238 жыл бұрын
David Hilsenrath you say improved, I say gimped. just because the music might become more technical or methodical, does not make for it being better. poison had style and a great sound, but that sound seemed almost exclusive to the inclusion of C.C being in the band. It never needed changing and when it did change they became something different to the point of questioning why they didn't have it as a different name.

the fact that in 1993 at height of grunge this video got shown on mtv the album went gold and poison still played arenas and ampitheaters on this tour was a major accomplishment

I was thinking the same thing. Had Native Tongue been released just a year or two earlier I can picture it being up there with Open up and say ... Ahh! and Flesh & Blood. Native Tongue is a fine album that should deserved more praise and recognition than it got at the time.

Cant wait to see them again this summer. Probably in the 100's now. Amazing song, very underrated album. Ritchie was amazing
