I'm amazed at the sheer number of Pokemon they included. There had to be a point where they were like, "If we add another Pokemon, that will mean we need another 326 sprites!" And the reply was, apparently, "No worries! Let's add another 58!" My hat is off to the artists, you're the ones who made this game so awesome,

My understanding is that it initially started as just portion of custom fusions, and more have been patched in over time. The generic "X head + Y body" was the placeholder until someone either got to it or had a good idea for it.

The game has a lot of placeholder sprites that just put a head on another body and altered the base colors. The sprites were added in by sprite artists who did it for fun

Thank you! I''m one of the less prolific artists working on the game (although I'm pretty proud of my Hitmonlee/Dodrio fusion) but I'm still proud to be part of it! Some of the people in there have hundreds of sprites to their name, and a few have over 1000! It's a really cool community.

Edit: Keeping the comment up but I made the mistake of thinking they were talking about adding fusions rather than just the literal bulk of sprites (both default & custom) that would have had to be included with each new Pokemon. That's not how it works.... They had all the Pokemon fusions from the start since they were made by a program that slaps together two Pokemon and usually they look like abominations but over time more and more people have submitted custom sprites to replace them on the discord which get added in sprite packs every month. You can see it briefly at 8:55, the grey silhouette is one made by the program and the green is a custom sprite which we see in the video.

As they add new Pokemon, they leave the default fusion as the placeholder and, in their discord, artists with good ideas for fusions make them and submit them for their team to run through it and choose the best ones. Many custom sprites are made by the fanbase itself and they are credited when you unlock that fusion. This way, they don't have to worry about overworking themselves and the fans feel like they have their own special touch in the game. A great method imo

Oh they did something really cool with Gold's team in this, it actually mirrors how Red's team was put together in GSC. All of the Pokemon Gold uses are static encounters you'll get when playing through GSC. The Sudowoodo outside Goldenrod + the gift Shuckle in Cianwood. The Togepi you get from the mystery egg + the Eevee you get from Bill in Goldenrod. The Dratini you get from the Dragon's Den + the Shiny Gyarados from the Lake of Rage, and obviously the three starters and the legendary beasts.

Plus the plot has changed a bit, from what was shown here (he skipped getting some legendaries and mythicals, the first meeting with Cynthia before Mt. Silver, and what Colress's actual function is). Jasmine is vacationing near Bond Bridge, and you get something important for beating her besides the badge. There is also more to Mt. Silver that explains Cynthia's terror, plus a new questline for a beast that is very ultra.

What's amazing to me isn't just the amount of content, but the fact that they keep ADDING to the game. Like everything here with Cynthia is new from when I last played through, the whole bit with Mt silver was totally different, it was a one way at the end because your character spent 3 years climbing the mountain rather than the time warp. It's so cool to see how dedicated the team is to this game

After the first vid Alpharad made about infinite fusion I picked it up myself and beat the story while collecting all the possible legendaries. He's absolutely right about the game just becoming a mix and match experiment toward the end. Its such a cool game with tons of talented artists. It took me too long to realize when playing that you can actually choose which sprite to use if multiple people have made their own take on certain fusions and after learning that the game basically turned into just looking at images. Unironically its one of the best pokemon games i've ever played, especially if you're a pokemon nerd because you'll recognize so many things

Thank you for the shout out for the game's story, it's something that never gets mentioned but it really does stand out as a pokemon fangame in terms of its writing and original plot content. Not because it's like a fantastic narrative or anything, but because of how exceptionally NOT BAD it is.

16:28 WHY DOES NO ONE EVER MAKE A THING WHERE SINNOH IS CONNECTED TO JOHTO AND KANTO. It's literally right there, walkable on land and everything. It's just north and a little in the the middle. I put all three maps together and it's clear that you go to Mt. Coronet via Mt. Moon, and you can go past the Lake of Rage to the city where Byron is the Gym leader. Hell it'd be even cooler if that massive body of water in the bottom left of the Sinnoh map was an inland see or something and players could explore it, but that'd be actually creative and adding entirely new content and we all know ROM makers HATE doing that

Having played through the game twice, I want to go again. The end of the video sums it up well, a love letter to pokemon. I am tempted to say the unique sprites by the talented artists do all the heavy lifting, but the plot and game itself is so well designed and so much fun, it wouldn't be a good experience if neat sprites were all it had.
