I've been loving Legends Arceus and i've found my biggest criticism of the game is that this is actually the most immersive pokemon game to date, so those archaic "pokemon moments" that break the immersion are all the more noticeable and annoying here

@@ddsalvador8710 Long dialog cutscenes with no voice acting blackout screens whenever an NPC heals your party minimalist animations outside of the actual battles/gameplay I think the best example of this is a cutscene in the third area after you've unlocked another ride pokemon, you and two wardens take way too long to explain that you can use this pokemon to bypass this obstacles, so long that a gang of thieves shows up to kidnap a special pokemon one of the 2 wardens was traveling with, one of the thieves summons a gengar, by which i mean the gengar just spawns behind you does a scream animation, the screen fades to black, and now both the gengar and the special pokemon are on the other side.

@@tfcast1977 its a flawed game, but it's also my all-time favorite pokemon game, but it's still important to address the flaws anyways, but also not to let anyone else dictate your will for you, look ima list off some shit that i hate about some of my favorite games of all time Hat in Time, The final boss needed more screen time Titanfall, the CAR is stupid broken and kinda ruins the fun sometimes DRG, the rival robots are not fun at all to deal with Halo 3: all the weapons except the BR feel like crap to use Hollow Knight, Pantheon 5 is kinda bullshit Splatoon 2, the final boss is a complete downgrade from the Splatoon 1 final boss Half-Life the Xen section really sucks

I haven’t played most of the Pokémon games despite being a fan since primary school, but from what I can tell, yeah the jump to 3D is when everything went weird. No one talks about X and Y, Sun and Moon had the weird trials which I thought was a unique concept and Sword and Shield are handheld games on a home console. Honestly, the best thing for Pokémon is to not make it a yearly franchise. You’re not gonna lose a lot of cash for not having a game one year, just take your time. That’s why Breath of the Wild and Odyssey are really good games - Nintendo hasn’t been making Zelda or Mario games annually.

I agree with pretty much everything in this video--except for how you call Game Freak "lazy." The way I see it, the issue isn't necessarily that they're lazy, but instead that they are given way too little time to develop games. A yearly release schedule clearly does not allow enough time to make truly good games anymore considering all the work required. I believe if the gap between mainline Pokemon games (Including remakes) was simply increased from 1 to 2 years, the quality of the games would rise substantially.

That's bullshit, you do need to grind in old gens go back and play GSC or B2W2 without grinding and tell me how much luck you have there. In XY you don't need to grind because your whole team gets EXP and the Champion is in the low 60s if I remember correctly which isn't high when your whole team is getting experience from every battle

It’s a step in the right direction, is it ugly? Yes, should we call gamefreak lazy? No, the games aren’t “lazy” they’re rushed, there’s a difference. The story in legends arceus was one of my favourite aspects of the game, I felt you were being way too tough on it, I get that the story in Pokémon games aren’t for everyone, but calling the story “uninteresting” and “boring” isn’t very warranted in my opinion. But I do agree with the majority of what you said here, there’s just some things that I don’t agree with, and that’s ok. I actually liked SwSh, but the biggest problem is that the game was too rushed, if gamefreak had postponed the game to 2020 they could even have improved its flaws, upgraded the graphics and made better animations and even implemented the f*cking national dex (or not...)

For me, I enjoyed what the story offers even if its not that groundbreaking but its better than the old formula on their main games. The conflict between clans is a great concept and the villain is one i didn't expect at all, even Giratina having 2 phases and giving it more difficulty than it used to be is such a nice touch. Its the execution is the problem. No skips, you slog onto dialogues while they basically stay still, everything that makes you yawn and not care about it anymore.

The 3DS Pokémon games had redeeming qualities too though. The 3DS games visuals look pretty good to this day too. Pokémon games aren't carbon copies of the previous generation with a few new mechanics and Pokémon as they feel like and are different games from one another. I hear Pokémon Unite is pretty good actually so...guess it being a MOBA was a good idea. Nothing after BW really blended together though.

If they’re going to announce Gen 9 on the 27th, _PLEASE_ keep the Battle System from Legends, or change the turnbased system to be seamless like Legends, while still Keeping the Legends system for Wild Encounters. Even bring back the Ranger Trainer Class, but have them be the Pokémon Ranger ones and have them use Pokémon found on the Route, and have fights with them use the Legends system. Even Keep the retuned stat system and more open world. _For the love of god do not go back to what SwSh is that was awful._

What is worse for me personally is that a lot of stuff changes in the battle system between the generation but the games are so easy that the average player will never even notice it Gen 2: pokemon can have different genders so breeding is introduced (and attract i guess but if you use attract you deserve to stub your toe) the "special" stat of gen 2 is split in special attack and special defense and steel and dark are introduced as new types together with some unique and interesting moves like perish song or sunny day and each pokemon can hold an item to use in battle Gen 3: EVs and natures are a thing now, EVs are points that you can give to your pokemon to increase specific stats and each pokemon has a max of 504 while natures are innate values that boost one stat but lower another, abilities and double battles are also there and there are some new items with unique effects (es. Choice band or white herb) Gen 4: there is now physical and special split, which means there are both physical and special moves for each type; additionally many items and moves that will become staples in competitive play are added (es. Life orb or choice scarf and stealth rocks or u-turn) Keep in mind these are only the first generations and that i probably forgot spmething, it just pisses me off that gamefreak would make such a complex and fun game and then just numb the actual gameplay down to just: "click supereffective move"

Honestly, the story is the best part of the game. Although the repetitive hand-holding in the beginning is annoying, I really liked the characters. The characters are one of the things that made me love Pokémon again, and I guess that’s my opinion.

I agree with the points presented here. Although I recently came across a video by Fudj, and he gave me some wisdom to think about in regards to Pokemon. He said, often enough the games don't get the time, respect and budget that they need to shine because there is so much else hinging on the completion of these games. For example the anime needs a renewed story every few years and merchandise, trading cards and other facets of the franchise have to be constantly evolving (no pun intended) in order to maintain sales and community. I don't think is this an opposing view, I think both views exist simultaneously. As other games have become bigger in scale and take more time and budget, Pokemon lags behind in a relative sense, and while we can understand why Pokemon is such a flawed game series or has been recently, when examining the games in a vacuum they don't stand up to scrutiny.

Ok but Black 2 and White 2 was awesome. Yes it did miss some potential but the story was suprisingly good for a pokemon game. I’m on the same boat with you about how unappealing the new installments of Pokémon are, and yea I definitely prefer games like Mario even though they are pretty much infected with much of the same issues that make the Pokémon games today so bad, it really comes down to genre preference at the end of the day, but Legends Arceus is probably one of the first times since I was a stupid toddler that I actually enjoyed a Pokémon game. Even with all of its imperfections, and there are definitely a lot of them, I’m more than happy that a corporation like Game Freak is willing to test the waters on seeing whether or not an open-world Pokémon game can work. The fact alone that you can collect all available Pokémon in a single cartridge without any glorified paywalls involved really sold me, at least until unnecessary paid DLC gets announced for the game, it probably executes the “gotta catch ‘em all” motto better than the mainline games.

I'd love to see games like Arceus explored more what with the open battle system, dodging as a trainer, and throwing projectiles. I could see it openning up the possibility of like, fighting WITH the pokemon. To explain my idea here in full, ditching turns and having it so before engaging in a fight you arrange strategy with your pokemon, a simple thing of "stay beside me", "circle the enemy" and "flank the enemy" before the fight actually starts. The first of course has your pokemon stay within a proximity of you, giving you something to dodge behind to avoid damage or to charge ahead with for a full frontal rush, the second lets you get a mix of both where you can circle the wild pokemon with yours, or let them circle around behind while you stay in front or vice versa, and the last will have your pokemon try and get to the opposite side of the wild pokemon from where you are. In terms of attacks the four ones are mapped to the four directional buttons on the left side of the controller, letting you drop your thumb down from the stick quickly for move inputs, once you use a move the pokemon winds up and attacks for some basic examples, ember would be a basic ranged projectile, scratch makes your pokemon run up and attack the other before backing off, a set-play move like stealth rocks has your pokemon throw a deployed projectile around the wild pokemon for advantageous effects like damage when they use moves, move in general, and being slowed down, something like solar beam would take much longer to charge up (since it usually takes two moves), and all the shielding moves act like an emergency shield the pokemon quickly uses to avoid damage and stuns the enemy if they collide with the pokemon while said shield is up. Meanwhile, we have the trainer, the trainer acts like a distraction and support in battle for the pokemon, allowing use of various items to heal their pokemon, buff them, or stun the enemy with various offensive tools. The right stick pressed down activates a lock-on mode, switching between the wild pokemon and your own pokemon. Locking onto the pokemon you have will let you press the same directional buttons on the left side of the controller from before to throw items you've chosen before the fight to them for varied effects, locking onto the enemy activates the previously mentioned move selection for your pokemon to attack. Finally while locked off you can select between four of your own attacking items with the four directions, these attacking items are able to be thrown with probably one of the other buttons like A, while B can be used for dodging or something. Finally the left stick is used for movement. This seamlessly lets the trainer use 4 items for supporting the pokemon, 4 for attacking with various types or effects (probably some burn, paralyze, freeze, sleep, etc, but do not damage, while others do specific type damage), and four moves that their pokemon has, as well as making use for varied strategy to run down wild pokemon, flank around them with both trainer and pokemon gradually wearing them down, acting like a unified shield wall, or many more.

Even though Sword and Shield are my favorite games, it is still way too much avoidible shit in it. Like bad textures, bad animations etc. So Foekoe already said it for me: Pokémon could be more if they put more effort in it. But what I think is the reason for this, is that Game Freak wants to put out their game as fast as possible, so they get money sooner, 'cause big companies like this sometimes get blinded by greed. They don't really care how laggy or buggy it is. They don't care if the textures and animations are bad, they care about the money, and now Pokémon is kinda losing it's magic. That's all I have to say.

I'll be honest, it annoys me that people complain about the bad story so much while spamming the skip dialogue button. Sure, it isnt a mindblowing plot with twists and turns but it is interesting enought and it presents some likeable characters. And since I am already going to get flamed by this, I might as well say that I think gen 6 and 7 were actually pretty good. Kalos feels wonderful for someone just begining to learn pokemon (probably for a kid), I had a big "wow" effect with the sights and designs of town. Plus lumiose had content to spare. And damn sun and moon was probably the most memorable of the games for me. The way the region in constructed makes it feel like an actual open region and not a series of rooms that lead to other rooms. (Though it technically is that)

The pokemon unite part was hella funny In my honest thought about it, its a great moba game with different mechanics from the other ones but then again, if you want to enjoy pokemon unite, be prepared for matches that are hell and chaotic that arent in your control.

I feel like foekoe needs to be more optimistic. Like, yeah. Stuff like security breach Or Pokemon isn't great in its current state. But with pokemon, there's clear improvement. And who knows, maybe at some point gamefreak will have more than a year to make a new Pokemon game. That's not even a joke, they're pretty much required to release one every year.and with stuff like FNAF, the team seems pretty receptive. Besides, the main problem with security breach is mostly technical stuff like bugs and optimization. Stuff that can be fixed. Idk, man. Expecting the worst isn't great. And yeah. As for why pokemon took a fall anyways..... Again, you can thank everyone's favourite corporations Nintendo. Because now that Pokemon is THIS big, the devs are forced to get one out..... Well, every year. Already said that. And while 1 year is enough to make a game, it's NOT enough to really tune up everything and make that game pretty good. At least, not with what all pokemon is TRYING to do now with all the online stuff and 3D modeling. If both given a year, a 2D indie game with no internet features will pretty much ALWAYS be better than a relatively longer, 3D game with internet features. There's just more time to focus on what REALLY matters with the smaller stuff. If pokemon is going to ever get actively great again, they need to spend more time working on it.

Unfortunately, The Pokémon Company sees Pokémon as more of a brand than a video game franchise. They could give the games all the time in the oven they need but then they'd miss out on anime tie-ins and cards and toys and merch that take less effort and makes more money. Seriously out of Pokémon 100 billion dollar net worth only a 5th of that is video games.

Imo legends arceus is the best game yet. I have always yearned for an open world game and I got it, and I think it's fire as fuck. SwSh was fun for me because of that aspect. However, BdSp are complete failures as they are completely botched (6.7gb game and d1 patch gave it 3gb lol) and the original gen 4 is unironically better.
