Though I have the bad gacha habit of spending the currencies every chance I get lmao, and I noticed there is a premium Gold currency (thankfully it does stop you if you don't have enough of those but if it changes and brings you to a top-up screen I'll be a bit concerned)

For me this feels like a safe way to experience a TCG without paying real world money for real world cards. Going into this game I figured if I liked this game, I might consider getting into the actual TCG.

I'm enjoying it so far, and have definitely gotten lucky in some places and unlucky in others. My biggest gripe is probably card acquisition; I definitely feel like a system closer to Master Duel would be better, letting you take extra copies of cards, or cards you don't need, and dust them for resources you can use to craft the cards you DO need. The dust you get from opening packs is similar, but you get far too little of it for how much the cards cost. Considering the current event awards extra for those playing Electric Decks, and I barely have any Electric Pokemon, I'm now caught between wanting to finish building my Charizard deck off of random pulls, and wanting to build an Electric Deck for the event. It's not a big issue right now, but I can see it becoming a problem in the near future. That said, I'm having fun with it; I pulled TWO full-art Charizard EX, so I pretty much just need Charmeleon to get this deck going, but even without them, the collecting aspect is neat. I don't know if this will serve as a gateway to the full TCG, as I don't even know what the differences are, but I am really enjoying how straightforward and simple the gameplay in Pocket is.

The lack of good access to type coverage is a bit of a turn off for me as well, and I don't like how that ties into some of the missions that require you to pull certain types. Even if you are able to pull a rental deck, they kinda suck and you're limited to using them only 10 times before they're gone. Then again the game does seem to be more about pulling and collecting cards than actually playing with them, which it does do a very good job at.

Playing this game casually is probably the best way to enjoy it. I like playing it during breaks during my job or at lunch. Open a pack or 2, then play against someone during their lunch break too. It's been pretty fun, and I've gotten some cool full art cards for free, definitely a game enjoyed at your leisure rather than tryharding.

Tcg live wasn't released in Japan because it was developed by The Pokemon Company International which focuses on publishing the TCG outside of Japan.

im actually quite enjoying the game! i havent followed the tcg since gen 1 and all the changes made to the gameplay were really overwhelming, but the simplified rules here have made it a lot less daunting to get back into. what happened to resistances though?

I’ve been enjoying it as a way to dip my toes in. Learn some basics and have fun pulling some of the really pretty cards. While I will never play a full TCG again for financial reasons; It does tempt me to purchase a couple of the premade decks and try to talk my wife into playing with me

As someone who's just into the art, even for weak pokemon, and doesn't need to have the strong cards, I really like the game. I decided to not spend any money, and yes, that means I will never get all cards, but that's fine (and I hope I'll keep thinking that way😅). I see no reason to be mad at the gatcha. It's the point of the real TCG too, and here you get ten free card each day, so it's gatcha you don't need to pay for

Awwww so this is not the TCG Live replacement I was hoping for! 😭 Dissapointing! And making the process of getting the cards you ACTUALLY want JUST AS HARD?! This is why I stopped playing Live and went exclusively IRL to being with! Cute idea, sure, might still give it a whirl, but considering how hard is to deckbuild for regular Pokemon TCG, giving ya barely any breath to account for all the cards you do want in a deck, and the Pre-Release decks as well as Draft Cube and GLC being formats I prefer a lot more, I don't see myself enjoying this at all, especially since it also has ex's still.

@Starpotion I collected the real cards before, but I wondered, based on Gators discussion, if this game just gave card packs and you build a deck each game, or if you retain the deck and swapped out like IRL.

​@@DX47-h3z You collect every card you pull and you can build custom decks from them. Even dupes, which can be exchanged for cosmetic effects for the card. Collecting is a big feature in the app, there is a Card Dex that tracks the number of unique cards you've collected, and you can publicly display your favorite cards on your profile. For deck building, you can either pick from your cards manually or generate the deck automatically There is a starter deck you can get that is either Fighting, Fire or Grass-themed depending on which booster you choose first (I picked Mewtwo so I got the Fighting one). You can play this deck indefinitely while there are also rental decks that can only be played a set number of times

I've started playing TCGlive for the first time, its one of my first card games and i've never played the pokemon tcg before. Im really enjoying it. They give you like, 12 free decks ready to go like the CharizardEX, ArcanineEX, Lugiah, Ghimigoul, terrapa-turtle, guy(whatever). I've been winning more then losing but each loss feels like I need to fine-tune my deck to get the right cards sooner rather then "everyones got better cards then me and I have no hope. Unless I spend money". For 2-3 games a day, I'm absolutely loving my time playing it and glad I didn't pick the gatcha when selecting which to play.

Speaking of accessibility - I am from Russia, and I've played Pokemon TCG Online from its start as browser game back in the 2011 up until its sunset in june 2023. Now there are two Pokemon TCG games - LIVE and Pocket, and neither is available for me to play. LIVE wasn't available in Russia during "global" beta, nor during "worldwide" release, Pocket is repeating same russophobic mistake
